He has 4 years left of RFA.

Given Byfield’s deal of 5 years at 6.25 I kind of think 5 years at 5.75-6m would be fair for both sides

According to puckpedia (I miss capfriendly), that would put us right up against the cap.

Just over 5M to the Wheeler/Schmidt buyouts on the books this year

You can then subtract $800k for Comrie to give us some room. They are counting 3 goalies on our cap so far for some reason.
That is correct. It also lists 14 forwards not including Cole. If they go with 13 forwards you can drop JAD and AJF which is another $1.550M to remove. However it only lists 6 D and you will have to add one more (Ville) at $800K as well as deleting Comrie.

If my math is correct when everything settles with 12 forwards, 7 d and 2 goalies there would be $7,376,309 left with Cole to sign.

Even if you go with an 8th D or 14th forward to roster a full 23,, there would be $6,626,309 left

Yeah they have enough space to sign him long term and leave a bit of a cushion for injuries and the TD.

If he has 4 years of RFA left, why would we sign him to a 5 year deal?
Something like 7 x 7m or bridge him.
7 years will up his AAV since we're buying 3 UFA years... which is fine, it would probably mean moving Iafallo (which is also fine)

Scott Billeck saying he has reasons to believe that Perfetti is open to signing long term

If true, that should be what the Jets are pursuing. Screw this "bridge" nonsense.
Looks like young Cole’s camp is trying to assert a little pressure on the Grinder. My guess Chevy has 2 deals on the table. A bridge at what the caparables would suggest or a long term team friendly deal and hasn’t moved off them at this point.

Definitely a bridge for me. Gets him to 24, then an 8 yr to age 32. I am not fond of core players' contracts ending around 28-31. Gives you a lot of heartburn on long extentions.

Nothing over 5 years, imo. Bridge gives you Ehlers flexibility though.

Hopefully the latter.
IMO, we have not seen enough from 91 to be handing over 7 yr deals at that value.
What's the rush? Unless you have a sure thing, why not wait and see with a decent bridge.

I don't see a long term deal at this point suiting either party. I doubt Cole signs 5x5.75. Bridge him for 2 years. Then sign him long term. Will that LTD be at a higher AAV? I hope so. I hope he has earned much higher by then. The cap will have risen and buyouts of Wheeler and Schmidt will be gone.

Looking forward to good news! I'd love to see Perfetti get signed long term here. He really has a lot of the same positive character traits I could see in Morrissey coming up. He's intelligent, well composed, skilled, and comes across like a team first consummate professional in every interview.
