Perfetti is looking legit, and KC and the Jets have yet another draft day steal!!!

how do we keep doing this? why aren't other teams seeing what we see? (#55,#27,#81, etc)

Its clear we draft well, but let’s not overlook the development part of the equation. Cole spent a year with the Moose, and his game profited from it.

Would Cole have made the same strides had he played in Saginaw, possibly but I doubt it.

I think we draft well but we also do a better job developing our picks than most.

Agree, and let's hope that continues under the refreshed Moose coaching staff. I also think Heisinger deserves some credit for how he has managed the Moose.

Leaving Lundell on the table and picking Cole....... @10 will look very bad in 3 years......

Lundell has the size and plays centre.....

was Captain of Finish WJC squad.......

Disagree, but certainly cases for both. I think Perfetti is a magician with off-the-charts hockey smarts who is going to have a top-end career and improve most if not all of the players he lines up with. I think Lundell should also have a good career and become a significant asset to the team who drafted him.

I have absolutely no reservations about going with Confetti.

Chevy just goes for safe first round base hits (which often turn into runs scored).

No point in going for home runs and ending up striking out.

I recall with Joel Armia, after the trade from Buffalo, during the offseason he did an interview from Finland.

They asked in the interview how it was going with his new team and have they been in contact with him during the offseason. I am paraphrasing but his response was he laughed and said yes he was in constant contact with the team during the offseason, which was quite a contrast to the amount of contact he had with the Sabres organization, which was once or twice during the offseason. He said they were very involved and interested in his offseason activities.

I strongly agree with all of this - especially the bold.
We develop and we are patient - that process can tie a fan in knots sometimes but it is the way to go with an org like Wpg and it has and is paying off.
Rushing young players into the league because they "might" be better than what we have, is no way to set up a player for success.

I have long argued that drafting is only half the picture, a strong procurement process and help you get the most out of the picks you make.

I think the Jets invest a lot on development and it has really helped them have a bitnof a competitive advantage in that aspect. It also helps us get players commit to us as they know they are going through a program that will help them maximize their careers.

Agreed. I really like Lundell, but I think Perfetti can have a career like Huberdeau.

There are always risks when drafting. Lundell looked great at the WJC and so far he has looked really good in the top league in Finland. I suspect he may even make the Panthers this season based on how mature he is physically and where his game is at.

The challenge is we only had one pick and judging by Chevy’s elation he was obviously thrilled Perfetti fell to us. I know I was one of the lead cheerleaders for Cole as he slid at the time too.

We shall see how it all turns out but I don’t have any buyers remorse yet.

Also we picked up a big physical two way young center in Dubois who is pretty much who Lundell will be if he hits his ceiling anyhow.

Hopefully Perfetti plays centre in the NHL eventually. I think he is smart enough to adapt when he grows his physical tool set. I think he is the type of player that will mesh well with most line mates unlike a kid like Laine who always seems to be in want of the perfect fit.

To me looks better at center then winger S it allows him to be more involved in the play all over the ice and he's a player you want to have a lot of touches of the puck. It's a bit annoying that Canada is using him at wing in that summer camp again.

I think the fact that most FAs will not sign in Winnipeg and many good player have the Jets on their no trade column has been a blessing in disguise. These facts force Jets ownership and management to create a draft and develop program that was 2nd to none in the NHL back in 2011-15. Today more teams have copied the Jets but I still think their D&D programs is one of the leagues best. I remember reading a article back in 2013 or 14 that mention that the small market team Jets had twice as many scouts on the payroll then the big market rich Leafs. I don't know if this is still true but it does show that the Jets commitment D&D was there from day one.

It is because of the D&D program that Chevy implemented and some very savvy trades over the years like the ones this summer I have Chevy as a top 3 GM in the league.

My only criticism of Chevy would be his loyalty to Maurice.

Great interview with Cole Perfetti on TSN:

Emboldened by pro experience, Perfetti brings winning habits to World Junior camp

He talks about how he's a lot faster and stronger now and has really noticed the increase in speed at the WJHC summer camp.
Says the AHL helped a lot in getting his pace up and he really focused on improving his skating this summer with his skating coach and in the gym working on his lower body and explosiveness.

Pretty much exactly what we all wanted him to work on.

Working hard on improving his skating all throughout summer sure feels like a better idea than staying off the ice most of summer when skating is the biggest hurdle to overcome.

No names named, none forgotten.

Love it. He could take a big leap if he adds a gear or two to his skating.

Now he just needs to get with the Gary Roberts program, start each day with a tilapia and kale smoothie and hire Adam Oates as a consultant and before you know it, he won't even need to be coached. No names named, of course.
