Yes, and he also had a great chance the game prior, but still, my point is somethings got to give from the other 4 guys. This is pass it to Weber all over again.

I'm not a fan of Hoffman at the top of the diamond. But he did ok last night in the parts i saw.

In terms of how it should be... Suzuki curling high and then attacking the net with the threat of a shot is one option other than cole. There should be someone at the top of the net with either a bomb or at least a threat to get it on net quickly when there's a screen (as Drouin did the game before he pulled himself out of the lineup). Dach also needs to be a threat to shoot in the bumper spot. So yes, there are other options that they need to utilize more.

But, I do like the new found movement and unpredictability. Hopefully they're starting to figure it out. It should have been two pp goals last night. Slaf also has a good shot and could be a good threat. But I'm not sure if he can be a threat from the bumper spot. He's looked a bit awkward there at this point in his career. And clearly Cole and Suzuki should be on the wings on the first wave.

Yeah, the PP is a bit predictable and stale because the first choice is always Caufield. I'd like to see more movement from Caufield and Suzuki though. Maybe switch sides to confuse the block a little but because they're talented players and can score from anywhere. No need for Caufield to be waiting for the one-timer that he'll never get off clean.

Its actually alot closer to the Suzuki extension.

Patrice signed at 6.875 wortha total of 10.69 (nice)% of the cap, Nick signed at 9.66% of the cap. Of course, Nick wasn't as proven as Patrice when he signed his deal, but he did sign his second deal in august 06 for 10.80% of the cap.

NICK=PATRICE confirmed.

I'm just hoping Cole doesn't tip the scale with his upcoming contract...

Since Nick has a similar deal to Mackinnons first deal, I would be comfortable with a similar deal Rantanen signed, 11.35% of the cap, which would go as high as 9.5.

Hopefully it's between 7 and 9, that would be sweet.

Caufield is starting to have a tough time dealing though, if you come up to the table and Suzuki is outpacing you by 10 goals and 24 points, how do you ask for anything more than 8.1 (9.66% of 83.5)?

I think he signs less than Nick. He's far behind him in pace and less diverse as a player. It's not like Nick's deal is old it was signed last season. 7 to 7.5 8 years or 6.something for 5-6 years.

It's like I keep telling people
That amazing Suzuki contract is our secret weapon vs a potential astronomical contract for CC
CC HIMSELF knows Suzuki is the straw that stirs the drink, the best player
CC's agent has to contend with that bigtime

Itll probably end up being 8.5M, and that's just fine
While I don't think Caufield's contract should be higher than Suzuki's, it might still be a little higher since we should be talking about % of total Cap when Suzuki signed, not dollar figures, because 8 years with no salary higher than 7.875M might be hard to do if we keep adding higher end talent during the rebuild.

I don't think it will be a problem, though, because 4 forwards making around 8M and two Ds making around 8M, once the core is finally established, all on a 90M Cap in the not too far future, makes a lot of sense.

If we can add real talent and avoid paying somebody beyond 10M, we should be fine to keep a winning roster together longer term.

The G position should get no more than 7.5M allotted to it in total and drafting + development will be crucial to keeping a winner together. Need rotating ELCs with talented youngsters giving options to management for some harder decisions that may be needed regarding middle-6 players along the way.

Once they establish the Cap for next season, Caufield should get no more than Suzuki's % of the cap the year he signed his contract (not the year it started).

Then, it should be the same with Dubois as an UFA if it ever got down to that).

If he wants to score 70+, he needs to work on that one timer.

amazing how he got that buzzer beater off with he puck so far ahead of his proverbial wheelhouse. He's getting huge money. Face it. We're likely saving huge on Suzuki anyways.

I think guys like Bergeron and Marchand are the exceptions, not the norm. Pastrnak is going to get over 10 million. That being said, it's hard to justify giving him over 8 million with one elite season (not even half a season yet really). Kaprizov got 9 million and he's a much better player. 8x8 is reasonable for Cole.

A teammate praising a teammate on a key goal or game altering performance, is a pretty common quote on any NHL team.

However, Gallagher goes beyond that to underscore what Caufield means to the team:

Ian Lapperière still has doubts about Caufield

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

That’s an unnecessary barb by Laperrière. You don’t elevate your player by dissing another who had nothing to do with what transpired at the draft. Common sense here called for Laperrière to focus on the positives and progress of his player and just leave it at that.

$50 is a good bet. Probably is we loose but I spend $50 at the bar and don't think twice.
