Emotions always seem to run high in these Habs threads for whatever reason. This is a hell of a steak and not something you see often outside of the Ovechkin/Matthews tier of scorers. Hopefully he can keep it up, or at least close to it. Would make a fun storyline for the season.

This is the sort of thing I missed when scoring was down in the 2000s and 2010s.

He's 8 goals in 9 games this year

What have you to say about that?
Id say that is a much better title for a thread given the season we are in. This one has vibes of the Jets 20 game win streak they're on currently.

I like him as a player but hate cherry picking stats to build a narrative. Every sane person would round up to the nearest 5 or 10 instead of purposely going back as many games as possible before it starts to negatively affect the narrative.

He has 16 goals in his last 24 games
He has 17 goals in his last 37 games

See what I did there. Much better pumping up this season only.

Why are we dating back to last year? And why stop at 18?

Because he had surgery to his shoulder and had a piss poor s% when he came back. 18 games ago is when his shot seemed to be coming back. It was noticeable. And it has even more whip to it since the season started. He had somewhere around 19% in those last 9 games, now he's over 30%. Not saying he'll stay at 30%, but as a 23 years old, he's still blossoming and this might be a sign that he's breaking out.

Also, from the point where MSL started as coach up to his surgery, he had 48 goals in 83 games, so the present sequence shows he might be back to this form or even better as he's still progressing and developing as a player.

That goal he scored against the blues this week, is the kind of goal we'd see him do before his surgery, but not after, not until the last 10 games last season.

theres always someone.... gimme a break

fact of the matter is he has 16 goals in his last 18 NHL games.... Thats it. Thats all Im saying.

You want to make seem like its not that impressive (because I assume youre not a Habs fan), be my guest. "OH but what about his last 24 games????".... Just dumb.

Pretty sure the jets thread has a whining warning

Or just brag about his 8 goals in 9 games. That is very impressive in itself. I love Caufield and was hoping he fell to my team during the draft.

Going back to last season which is 7 months ago now and purposely stopping at April 2nd because he didnt score on March 30th is just silly. Its not like he had surgery and came back that game. He had a rough Feb/Mar of last season. It is what it is.

That's fair what you are saying but others are saying much more then glossing over his current shooting %.

But I went back and you actually said this,

Dating back to last year.....Thats one hell of a streak. Whos the last to do that? Matthews?

Looks like he'll be a Rocket contender the way things are going. Its gonna be a long season in Montreal, but at least a few bright spots to follow.

314 SOG last season.... when you shoot lots, you score lots. Everyone who had 290+ SOG had 40+ goals except for B.Tkachuk (37) and Caufield (28).
So yes some people are going to push back on the 40 considering he hasn't had 30 yet.

For the record I think he will hit 40 at least once but I also think 50 will be really hard.

Caufield would give Matthews a run for his money for the Rocket if he had a pure playmaking center to play with.

hot start

hischier scored 9 goals in 12 games with only 3 assists. i expect him to end the season with more assists than goals around points per game. so most likely below 40 goals.

in a sport with streaking results snipping the sample size is dump. just dump.

you can create any facts the way you handle it. but it doesn't reflect the reality.

Im not "creating facts", Im stating them. Snipping a sample size is pretty much what the definition of a streak is. ie. what a player or team has done in their past X games. We do it ALL THE TIME. This goalie has been on fire SINCE January, this player has gone goalless in his past 15 games, this team is on a 10 game losing streak... I mean, what dont you understand?? The reality is he scored 16 in his last 18.

Its like im explaining this to 6 year old. I know youre looking for ways do diminish this since hes a Hab and all, but just accept it as something positive for the player.

Its like to you we should never mention a streak at any point in ANY sport for that matter since "it doesnt reflect the reality". So then we should always refer back to the start of the season in every single case?? like what?? weird reasoning, man.

He won't continue to shoot at 30%...

Has the Hutson hype worn off so we have to pretend Caufield will keep this going all season now?
The guy has a top 5-6 shot in the game and shoots over 300 times a season. No he wont shoot at 30% all season, that would give him 100 goals. But if he shoots say 15%, which is very reasonable if youve ever seen his shot, that could be close to 50 goals. Get it yet?

Boo hoo, a Habs player is doing well. You know what you can do next time? Ignore the topic and not comment. I know its hard for you Hab haters, but you should at least give an effort. ITs pathetic, frankly.
