This is just an average trade. Ranger fans are a bit overly sensitive here given the state of their franchise. Doubt anyone thought they'd be sellers this year, but its a good value sell.

I think we'll see the typical Avs acquisition bump + a bonus of fewer minutes with Lindgren.
It does ring similar to what they wanted/needed out of JMFJ.
Don't hate this gamble and will relish not watching CDH in burgundy and blue no matter how bad Lindgren is

edit/p.s.
The Avs really miss the physicality of Manson. Adding a little of that matters too.

There is literally not one person on the Rangers board that likes him
please don't speak for all of us
"literally not one person' is just not true,
and i expect its not only me

Loved Lindy, yes, his best days are past, and glad NYR got assets for UFAs,

but please, don't assume every fan is as into dumping on our players as much as the vocal ones do

I was perusing both fans boards to guage the reaction of this trade. Avalanche fans seem more upset and concerned than Ranger fans seem happy about it? :dunno:

I still dont think CDH is horrendous for 800k but you cant always expect a massive success like Drouin.

Don’t worry, many of us know it’s best to not trust the opinion of fans who throw around the extremes of “literally not one person” and “literally no world where he’s a good defenseman” like a crazy cat lady.

That's what fans do. Any Colorado fan who wants to wax poetic will have receipts for badmouthing their own bad players (as will any teams fans).

Ranger fans respect Lindgren and apperciate the sacrifices hes made with his body. That's clear in posts on our board. But it is true that no one really "likes" him as a player curerntly, because he's awful. Spade a spade.

And whether he can bouncebac on a differnet team is another, albeit unrelated question.

He’s not, but he’s terrible defensively and no longer strong enough offensively to warrant being top 4 in my opinion.

So I feel it’s a wasted roster spot unless you’re having him cover for injuries (which he was in Colorado)

Liking him personally for trying hard and liking him because he's good are two different things.

Turning a 2nd, 3rd and 4th into a rental 3rd pair LHD and 4th line vet ain’t exactly the most analytically smart thing the Avs FO has done recently. For a club that has been pretty analytically savvy - they just got two depth guys who absolutely bomb the fancy charts and one of whom seems pretty much physically broken.

That said, even a broken Lindgren and a Vesey who is used in a very specific role will be an incremental improvement over CdH and whatever Parssinen’s intended role was.

Overpaid in draft capital for sure. But I think this deal and the Nyquist deal today are going to kind of summarize what this TDL is going to look like - draft picks flying off the board for very, very incremental improvements or chances on vets turning it around for a final few months of a push.

Thanks.

I’m happy to see de haan go so here’s hoping a change of scenery works out for both parties.
Lindgren has gotten a ton of shit from the NYR fanbase. He was a legitimate partner for Fox for a few years, but he's been used and abused above his pay grade. Like Staal and Girardi in years past, the miles are adding up, and he's a player in that kind of vein. He's balls to the wall, all the time.

If you're putting him in a 2nd or 3rd pairing role, you'll probably be pretty happy with the result.

Lindgren has not looked good the past 2 years. Whether that is because of the inevitable decline due to accumulation of his injuries, or his inability to adjust to Laviolette's system, or other reasons, whos to say. I wish him the best of luck in Colorado and wherever he ends up afterwards.

Lindgren is declining. However, his biggest problem is the Rangers asking him to be a first pairing defenseman. I'd assume Colorado isn't asking him to do that. Play him down the line up (ideally 3rd pair) and I do believe he will have success and can be a nice addition to a playoff team. Vesey is a capable, cheap, experienced depth forward.

From a Ranger standpoint, this is as much value as they were going to get. It also gives you some peace of mind that it doesn't appear that the Rangers will be adding just to try to slip into a playoff spot by the skin of their teeth.
