Maybe ol Louball has still got it after all. Pretty strong package for Nelson. He's been one of the quieter great top 6 Cs in this league for a while and should fit into that Avalanche team well for the playoffs.

Definitely looking like a sellers market this season. With a ton of teams in the wildcard hunt that's probably not too surprising.

Yeah probably, but I'm not sure where or how he would have fit.

In some ways it felt like the OHL was too weak of a league for him and its arguably reflected in his performance of late(Cant help but wonder if he's not bored tbh).

But at the same time he didn't look very good for us in his 9 game stint to start the year either so I kind of feel like he was setting up to be in that awkward situation where's he's too good for Juniors but not good enough for the NHL.

I'm not sure if he's AHL eligible or not next year, but I could see that being a place he goes. But he could show up looking good in camp and then earn a spot pretty easily as well.
Well we'll definitely have a spot for him to win. We had that similar situation with Dobson and just kept him up the whole year... wish they'd do away with that. Either way good luck to y'all, you're going to have a ton of Isles fans rooting for you this postseason

What's so great about Ritchie? Barely above 1.5 ppg in the OHL as a D+2. Picked in a range of the draft that rarely produces impact NHLers.

Seems like the typical 1st + good but non-elite prospect + roster player return that we see every year for the top deadline rental.
Big centre with great vision and a knack to make the players around him better. Once he learns to use his size more effectively he could be a very good top-6 option

The amateur scouts are shit then,
1000%. That's why I'm completely fine with this trade. We haven't drafted anyone meaningful out of the top 10 since the draft with ROR and Barrie. We need better draft scouting.

But that being said, we keep finding good talent that fits with our team that exists around the league already.

As I said in the Avs board. Being a good team is more than just drafting and picks. The Buffalo Sabres are a prime example of that.

Wonder if the Avs flip Mitts out east somewhere for a bottom 6 forward and some assets. He is not a bottom 6 player, though they may be best served to trade him at the draft or give him another shot at 2C next season.
Send him to Pittsburgh. What do you need? Don't say Crosby please.

Don't get why people are saying Avs paid a steep price.
Ritchie is meh.
Colorado 1st is between 25 and 32... meh
A 3rd with condition... super meh.
Strong agree. Ritchie might end up having a solid career but he's not going to be a consistent 20 goal scorer level prospect. 1st is practically a 2nd.

Gotta pay something to win a cup.

Ritchie I believe was top 20 in the THN latest future watch edition.

He's a legit prospect.

It seems like the Avs target fast offensively skilled players that are held back by defensive first systems. Having a guy that has had 60+ points the last 3 seasons on the Islanders team bodes well for him in Colorado. Playing with Nichushkin on the second line is going to be huge for him.

Just FYI on Ritchie here... After 14G and 54A for 58 points in his first 31 games this year, he's had 0G and 9A for 9 points in his last 10 games.

As a Generals season ticket holder, I can tell you the biggest issue with Oshawa this year has been the coaching. Ritchie has new line mates literally every single game. I can assure you that nothing has regressed with his game in terms of effort or attitude.

Derek Laxdal got an AHL job very late in the summer, and it left Oshawa scrambling. They promoted an assistant to HC and then fired him after only 30 games - - with the team in first place.

They hired former minor league journeyman Brad Malone to be the HC, even the Malone had never coached a game at any level.

Wait, thread title says 50% retained but I didn't see any tweets saying there's salary retention. Am I blind or is the thread title wrong?

(Disclaimer: it would not surprise me if I'm blind, lol)
