Wonder if the Avs flip Mitts out east somewhere for a bottom 6 forward and some assets. He is not a bottom 6 player, though they may be best served to trade him at the draft or give him another shot at 2C next season.

I mean maybe? He took a step back this year. Could easily be a top prospect, but didn’t look it this season.
Thanks. Hopefully the plan isn't to split up Barzal and Horvat next year because Horvat is absolutely useless by himself. thinking maybe the plan is to thrust him right into the 2C role next year

Big haul for the islanders, but with the Avs core I don't think it's bad, I think the JBB approach of using assets that aren't gonna come to fruition till about 4 years at the earliest (if at all considering they'll be late firsts) is the correct move. Really wanted to see Cal stay on the Avs but I respect the aggressiveness of making this trade, plus it makes the Avs depth look way deeper especially with Val back. This move cements them as true cup contenders, before this trade and before Val coming back they lacked the two pieces.

Lehkonen- MacK- Necas
Val, Nelson, Drouin

Is a genuine good top 6 and allows Mittelstadt and Colton on the third line. I can see that second line getting some big goals and using their size to make a difference come playoff time.

Disappointed there wasn’t a better offer out there. 2025 1st would have been preferred.

Not crazy about Ritchie. Don’t get the Kylinton add either.

Wanted Nelson to the jets but love the fit for the Avs. Hope they win the cup

Ava fans, did you think Ritchie was going to be with the big club next year?
Yeah probably, but I'm not sure where or how he would have fit.

In some ways it felt like the OHL was too weak of a league for him and its arguably reflected in his performance of late(Cant help but wonder if he's not bored tbh).

But at the same time he didn't look very good for us in his 9 game stint to start the year either so I kind of feel like he was setting up to be in that awkward situation where's he's too good for Juniors but not good enough for the NHL.

I'm not sure if he's AHL eligible or not next year, but I could see that being a place he goes. But he could show up looking good in camp and then earn a spot pretty easily as well.

What's so great about Ritchie? Barely above 1.5 ppg in the OHL as a D+2. Picked in a range of the draft that rarely produces impact NHLers.

Seems like the typical 1st + good but non-elite prospect + roster player return that we see every year for the top deadline rental.

It is crazy to me that the Avs could have had JT Miller for their entire competitive window for Richie & 1st, but decided to pay even more for a UFA Brock Nelson
I forgot which insider, but one of them said (although it was contested) that the Avs had a deal for Miller lined up immediately after the Rantanen trade but Miller killed it with his NTC, wanted the NYR or bust.

Woof. Ritchie or a first. Cool. Both? Blah

But if they go deep, who cares.

Mackinnon, Nelson, and now mitts is the 3c. I love that depth if that’s what they run.
