It’s been 3 games and I’m ready to call this trade a loss.

Moved a decent asset for a project player that needs some serious development time.

He looks completely lost out there.
"A decent asset"

What do you mean by that? Because Pavel or a 3rd certainly isn't it.

Pavel was never going to play an NHL game for us, and a chance for a 3rd rounder to make it is pretty slim as well.

An above average bottom pairing dman or 4th liner on an expiring contract.

Trenin/Duhaime type.
So you'd rather give that asset to an expiring UFA that would be interchangeable with our guys down the system, instead of giving an RFA a bigger chance than 3 games, when he has actually not even looked that bad?

I mean I get it, Pärssinen has not made that much of a difference for us after being sidelined for weeks by Nashville, but he has not made that 4th line worse.

No idea if he ends up being a useful player for us but way too soon to make any judgement. He was struggling all season for nashville. He wasnt ever going to come here and be great right away. Gonna take some time to adapt to our team and system and then we will have a better idea how he fits

I personally think Pärssinen has looked better each game. Avs play a very different game than Preds and it might take a while. He was miles better today than in his first game (which is a very low bar, I know).

That said, might be wise to sit him for a while and let him get some practices under his belt. He will be better, but right now he is not a positive on the ice.

Waaay to early to call this trade a loss.

Trenin would be better than what 4 of the forwards the Avs are regularly dressing?

That's as meaningless as you'd think.

A third at the deadline probably gets a defender that's better than Malinski CDH or Middleton too.

Parssinen felt to me like just as much of a long term plan as it was for this season. I think they'll be patient with him if need be.

They mostly just need a defenseman or two at the deadline. They can get that without Pavel and a 3rd. The 2026 is most likely gone. OO and Foudy have just as much value as Pavel and a 3rd. Malsinki could be traded, he's definitely got more value than Pavel. CDH and Kylington perhaps if needed.

A 3C would be good but that's more of luxury addition. Colton can go back to 3C if needed, and if Lehky, Val, Mikko, and Drouin can all stay in the lineup, there's no room at wing in the top 6 for Colton anyway. Not to mention Gabe as another possibility if he can come back and play well.

I’m willing to give it a couple weeks. It will take time to build chemistry and learn systems. One of the biggest reasons I’m glad it was done now instead of the deadline

As with all trades players, it’s unfair to judge them early. Most guys need at least 20 games before we can judge.

Not surprised he looks a little lost at times, takes time to learn where you’re supposed to be all time in the JB system.

Edit: I recall how much people were absolutely shredding Parker Kelly at the start.

Way too early to tell obviously. I'm hoping at the least he can smooth his game out and be like Nico Sturm for us. Focus on the defensive side and not worry too much on the offense. Hes already shown flashes on offense. Just need a big body low event guy that can PK for us. If he can at least develop into that, that would be a win.

So we'll hopefully know by tdl if he was good acquisition, and people still rip Kelly.

I don't really mind us doing this sort of thing. If we were to trade a 3rd and/or a Pavel at the deadline for an impending UFA they'd probably be misused like Duhaime or Trenin then lost for nothing. If we get someone in early who's an RFA, we might mould him into something useful.

Be nice if he could be even vaguely noticeable in the meantime though.
