Better odds with Parsnip than just using that 3rd and it coincides with The Window as opposed to God Knows Where this team will be in 2029.

Odds for sure are drastically higher since the odds of a 3rd rounder accomplishing what Parsinnen has ALREADY accomplished in the NhL, is very low.

But furthermore, with @Richard88 discussing opportunity cost, what realistic other piece could a 2027 3rd have acquired?
I guess the argument could be made that it could used to bump up the value of a bigger trade, but that’s far more difficult to assess. In terms of Parssinen’s age, contract status, size and skills, I have a very difficult time thinking there was more value that could’ve been eked by a 2027 3rd.

I won't be making any declarations on what the poster you quoted meant, but this board was overwhelmingly against the Blackwood trade until he began playing well. This board isn't known for it's accuracy or knowledge minus a select few posters.

Went to the Preds board and damn, to get some perspective I recommend everyone to do the same. Our problems are good, smallish, solvable problems.

Not really, i never even heard of him, until today. Which is good enough indicator he is probably not all that. Not because i am some expert on youth development, like some of these people seem to think about themselves to be, but i am into hockey well enough to be aware of players who are either highly touted/drafted, or at very least did well enough to become familiar name.

Now, again, i would love, if he bested my expectations, and become truly great player for Avs. Just like everyone here. But really, he was 7th round pick, who did not exactly set the world alight so far, hence i am saying better temper your expectations and dont put much faith into opinions of these self-proclaimed experts.

Based on these grandiose statements, one would think we traded for a PPG player (or one with obvious pedigree to become one). Meanwhile, there were probably 100 other comparable players available like the one we got. So what is there to LOVE/HATE about it? Why such a strong words.

I am sorry if i rain on anyones parade. Obviously have fun the way you want to, whatever floats your boat and who am i to tell you otherwise. Its just me, i suppose, not much of a fan of hyperbole and generally prefer more sober, objective view of things. Leads to lesser number of disappoitments.

I had seen him play and thought he was pretty good, and that was this year when he’s evidently not getting the minutes or playing as well as the last two years. He’s
only 23, has good size and plays center. He’s got some nice hands and we’re told he likes to play in front of the net. Heard varying things about his defense but if he buys into the system, guys his size are typically valuable with longer reaches and harder to get around on the walls.

If pro scouting likes this guy, I am inclined to like the move, and he perfectly fits what the org looks for in young somewhat controllable/cheaper to sign talent. And it’s not like you have to be amazing to be our 3C, we have 2 talented centers and then guys who haven’t been centers in a while, so people thinking he can slide into our 3rd line at center isn’t an inflated expectation to me. We’ll see him play soon, I’m stoked to see how he looks on this team.

This is a legit question. Knee injuries are the only reason why Pärssinen fell to the 7th round.

I forgot about all the details and I could be wrong but if I remember correctly it's both knees and something that's likely not gonna go away completely, something he'll have to manage for the rest of his career. He probably won't be able to play big minutes for 82 games. He's pretty good when healthy though. Big two way Center with soft hands and the ability to hit like a truck.

Looking at his highlights, it seems like he always heads to the net in the offensive zone, and has some good passing ability. Could be a good fit with Kivi and LOC - those two can go to work on the boards, and he can participate in give and goes. Neither Kivi or LOC are ideal net-front guys - I'd rather have them hunting pucks and getting open for shots.

From my house kovalenko had roughly 3rd round value. San Jose really liked him

Georgiev had negative value I’d say kovy, 2nd and georgiev is a pretty good get. Blackwoods number this season are outstanding.

Wedgwood has looked solid and worth the get. He has another year on his contract.

He's also been able to acquire a brand new goaltending tandem without giving up any of Ritchie, Gulyayev, Nabokov, or 1st round picks beyond this season.

IF - big if here - Parssinen can turn into a legitimate 3C for this team, he'll have hit a massive homerun akin to the Devon Toews and Artturi Lehkonen trades.
