No I was referring to fans that are either saying this extension was a dumb move or a great move based on such a small sample size. Nothing to do with the Avs management.

You do realize the sample size isn't small at all...

You are literally the exact type of poster we are currently making fun of in this thread, congrats

I understand that you just don't understand what I meant. But that's on you
I wish you did understand. The Avs certainly looked at Blackwood’s career when giving him the extension, and not just his sample of games with the Avs. The fact that you think people feel his contract extension is validated by his performance with the Avs and not his performance in the seasons leading up to the trade is….silly and absurd.

@Pierce Hawthorne nailed it.

As a Sharks fan who has gotten to see Blackwood, Georgiev and Askarov play this season I will say, my god, Colorado needed this. I can feel Georgiev’s panic whenever the opposing team has the puck… and then his weird flappy glove wave thing…

He played an okay game for us (after letting in 2 bad goals) last game but he is… not good.

I am sorry you to have to watch Georgiev play hockey or trying to play. It's painful.

I think he is mentally lost. He used to be better.

Honestly, I think him plus Vanacek’s injury sort of forced Askarov to become the starter and he’s been absolutely amazing so I can’t complain. Georgiev should guarantee a top 5 pick if the team starts over performing…

He’s obviously been lights out, very refreshing for avs fans watching and can't even imagine the mental boost it must give the players.

You never know year to year what you are going to get with a goalie but i was happy and excited with the announcement of both the trade and the signing. I’m going to live in the moment and enjoy our current goaltending situation lol…

8-1-1 record
.942 save percentage in those 10 games

Now 4th in the league in GSAx + save percentage categories.

Awful extension, LOLalanche

Question for the peanut gallery: if MacBlack keeps having the season he has and went to UFA at the end of this season, what kind of contract would he get on the open market?

Avs fans had a Georgiev trauma support group every Tuesday night. I think some Avs fans are still going. You’re welcome to join, 😉😬

Haters have gone reaaaal quiet. You know they'll be back quickly as soon as he has a stretch of poor games.
a stretch? Haters come and go on a game-by-game basis.

If he maintained those numbers? A cautious guess:

8 years, 14 AAV.

If he puts together a solid season this offer is at worst comparable to what a UFA deal would look like.
Not only that, but the other major problem is that the number of suitors would go up. Part of the problem for the Avs was dealing with the cap and term number. The reality was waiting would provide a whole other slew of issues. Most posters assumed the Avs were just giving him way too much, way too early, and there was no risk of him getting THAT much more, even if he had a good season.

But the main problem with a really good season, is it piques more GM’s interest. And with that comes multiple contract offers. Some better, some worse, maybe even all of them could’ve been worse than the Avs offer. But now you’re competing for Blackwoods services not just on money, but on weather, location, income taxes, family (wife and children schools), etc.

The AVS believed he was the guy before they acquired him. It made absolutely no sense in waiting because potentially losing him in the offseason to another team was not an option.
