Confirmed with Link: [Col/Chi/Car] Rantanen (50% by Chicago), Hall, Nils Juntorp to Car - Drury, Necas, 2nd, 4th to Avs, 3rd round pick to Chicago

i just randomly flashed back to last offseason - remember when there was a groundswell of 'hronek for necas' talk? and there were a lot of folks absolutely ready to die on the hill the canes would have to add?

get necas some virginia slims, because he's come a long way baby. centerpiece for rantanen and hall, with only drury and picks (and not a single first among them!) would explode some brains from ~7 months ago.

Just watched an interview with Seb and Rantanen which was taken before Rangers game for the NHL Europe.

I remember seeing Aho's interview in Finnish during pre-season and he was clearly disappointed how they traded two key players. But now after getting Rantanen and Hall, his whole demeanour was different.

I really think that Rantanen with his skill and clutch together with Hall in a contender team, getting his chance will make Canes even stronger contender.

I'm missing Necas's style of play, it's so fun to watch. Impressive secondary assist. Overall though I think this a trade where both teams end up really happy.

I agree that both teams will end up happy.

But....

I'm genuinely surprised the Isles gave him that much room. Its almost like they forgot who had the puck, because when he was here, they took that space away on the zone entry and let him skate himself into trouble.

Mac is probably a bit more of a concern for them then KK or Svech was.

Wonder if we can get Hall locked up on a good deal if we give him some term. 3 years anywhere at 3.75-4.5M? Give him a place to call home & gets to stay on a cup contention team. Or do you think he commands $6M again?

If he stays motivated, I'm game to keep him around. If he plays every game like last night, we'd be foolish to say no.

But I want to see if this play is sustainable for him.

Unless he plays out of this world, I can't imagine a team giving him that 6mil X 3-4 years. I'm all about signing 3 x 3.75-4.5

Early returns have been great. I'd add his focus on the ice is the type I want for playoff performers.

The only thing that makes me think otherwise would be the possibility of Miller’s personality being a roadblock to signing Rantanen. Can’t imagine he signs with us for 8 years if we have an asshole in the room.
I just don't see Miller or Petey in the picture anymore....nor do I think we need them. I agree with whomever said maybe a solid 4th line right-handed center....and maybe a bigger, more physical #7 Dman.

Good closing, Sugarboo

What about a trade for Jake Evans from Montreal? He would a good Drury replacement and something involving Suzuki would be obvious. maybe get Aho from Pittsburgh as a sweetener?

I think they want an arm and a leg for him, and his future contract will probably be too high. He'd probably be an overpriced rental for what he brings.
