I don’t understand this word I’m just a layman
“A lamen (Latin, meaning "plate") is a magical parchment or pendant, sometimes acting as a protective 'magical breastplate' worn around the neck so that it hangs upon the breast over the heart.”

It's what our players are told to aim at to make the magic happen.

And we dumped KK?!?!

Tulsky, you god.

KK has been hot as of recent but by and large the experiment didn't turn out well. This frees up cap space too.

Well. We got rid of KK.

The fact that they waited for KK and Necas to finally score a couple of points and then traded them both is hilarious.

I love Rants, and I think it gives closure to the Necas mess but I liked this a lot more when it was KK since it gave us closure there too.

While we improved and got a better player, even if we don’t fuss over the possible contract we didn’t really address needs other than size in the top six. We still are questionable at center. We still have questions in goal, defense isn’t what it was and feels like an unfinished sentence too. In fact, imo the only place we didn’t really need help was wing. We got two of those here. So in some ways it falls in line with the Borg just giving Rod the best pieces they can find and let him figure it out.

When he came at 50% I assumed he’s walking at the end of the season. I won’t feel otherwise until he’s officially signed. This is another rental. We paid a high price for it in my book as Necas will be close to impossible to replace, and we have a pretty questionable second line despite the improvement on the first line.

So….no one can say we don’t go for it because this is going for it. I didn’t think last years team was worth the effort, I actually liked this team better but I haven’t been seeing a cup contender. If we let him walk I’ll question this, but it’s going to be a fun ride!

I’d argue they addressed one of the biggest?

Rantanen has been one of the most productive post season players in the league and gives Carolina that missing game changer on offense

They kept losing 1 goal games in the postseason year after year& now they still have all the assets to address the C group as well

It calls the jokinen face an angry react and I just need to say that I’m not angry I’m just making that face at learning this word

And what's he going to ask for if he scores 100 points on the Avs? Or are they just gonna keep trading their pending UFAs to another 100 point player ad infinitum?

Shit man, by your logic Necas is actually a better player than Rantanen, because he's on pace for 92 points WITHOUT MacKinnon and Makar. Maybe Canes got fleeced after all.
Re: Nečas, he was on pace for 135 points after 20 games or so and then mostly fell off a cliff.

I've watched hundreds of games of Rantanen playing, I don't need belief, I've my own eyes. This is classic post-trade copium. You don't cruise to top 4 in scoring in the past 5 years being a passenger. What black & white thinking, believing that it's only Rantanen benefitting from MacKinnon, and never the other way around. The guy probably would've broken 100 points in 2018-2019, had he not been injured & MacKinnon sure as shit did not score 140 points back then.

There's a couple of you guys on the Avs forums who've convinced themselves that Mikko is just some sort of a giant leech, even if it defies all logic. And this isn't just a narrative from the "past two seasons", it's been there his whole career. Hell, on the finnish hockey forums his thread name was "Mikko Rantanen - The Passenger" for many years, making light of it.
That guy seems to forget that when MacKinnon was injured, Rantanen was just casually moved to center and scored over ppg. So there goes the passenger argument.

As for the Canes, i'm fully in your bandwagon now. Mikko will miss Colorado, but when he arrives to your locker room and sees Aho smiling, he feels like home immediately.

I agree with all of this, but I don’t think Rants at 50% says anything about him only being a rental. With Carrier looking to be done for the season, the borg wanted Hall as a replacement. We were able to save more cap by having CHI retaining on Rants instead of Hall. Rantanen is a younger UFA, and we will have a ton of cap space this offseason. If he fits the team and he is willing to stay here, I think there is a pretty high chance we will match his ask and he won’t end up a rental.

With that said, I’m not sure I understand why the borg wanted Hall, hawks fans are saying he washed/dead weight, but maybe part of that is from playing on such a dreadful team.

We didn’t even discuss contract with Rants. I’m not saying it won’t happen, it just had nothing to do with whether or not we acquire him. He’s giving up his fa to sign with us, if he does. We have no idea if he’s interested, or if he wanted to test the market (safe presumption) or if the power of our sauna team is strong enough to keep him.

Man slept on it and still dumbfounded we pulled this off. Rantanen was that guy we all coveted for years but deep down knew we would never make the move to get, and would never pay market value to get in FA.

Welp, not anymore. And after Guentzel you don't make this trade unless you are FULLY comfortable giving him whatever he wants for the full 8 years, and with a rising cap and Aho, Svech, Slavin, and hell even KK locked up long term at reasonable rates and a hell of a lot of cap space coming off the books with guys like Orlov and Burns likely leaving, we are able to do it. If we end up shipping Necas and Drury for 8 years of Rantanen it's an unbelievably good deal.

What a massive move for Tulsky's introduction to the league. This is the biggest move I can even remember is being potentially linked to going back to maybe the Yzerman offer sheet. And it completely obliterates every narrative about how we operate as an organization. You aren't cheap and you aren't frugal if you are trading 2 roster players for Mikko f***ing Rantanen

Oh and Rants is absolutely the player we have always wanted Svech to be, so it would be a great person to help potentially bring that game out of him. And you can't overlook the potential of that happening with a deal like this, which could pay off even moreso down the line.

We traded for a bonafide top 10 player in the league in exchange for a top 50 player, an NHLer, and some draft picks.

Whether we lose Rants in the off-season or not, we'll get someone else very good with the $30M of capspace we had. I'm not as concerned with the riskiness of the trade knowing that we had a decent likelihood of losing Necas a year later anyway.
