KK is not a cap dump. His salary is a makeweight but he’s a solid middle six player.

Well all the due respect, 5M is a way too much for what he's bring on. If we lose Rantanen for money purposes and get a 5M long term middle six that I value more as a 3rd liner, I will not be the only one to be bitter...

On deadline day, if you come up with this deal, I would sadly understand that nothing was on the table and you can reach term with Mikko but that. Holy...

Drury is a bit more exciting for Colorado I guess but I’m not liking their contention chances now

Kotkaniemi is not as bad as people are making him out to be.

Cap is about to be 100 million. Big players take longer with their development. I'm not saying he is going to be the big game changing 1C that Montreal has needed for the last three decades, but I could easily see him being a nice add on a playoff TV. It gives Colorado another big body who can score.

It's absolute robbery by the Hurricanes, but if Colorado made this trade, my guess is that Rantanen was adamant that he wanted to test the market and get what he is worth. You don't trade franchise players like this unless you're forced to.
On his third team. 25 this summer. One season where he touched .50ppg for a season, then dipped last year. People need to stop clinging to the idea that he'll ever be more than a 3c.

I completely dis
This easily has potential to go down as the wort trade in Avs' history.

We got absolutely bent. FLEECED. No way you're telling me this return is worth even remotely close to Rantanen at $14m AAV.

I'll come back to this in several years and be able to say "I told you so". Book it.
I completely disagree. The Avs were not winning the cup this year with the lack of death. Paying Rants $14 million a year only makes that depth disappear either further. Their strength down the middle is weak. They needed a proper 2C

I have said for over two years now that the window would slam shut the second they give Rants that large raise. Makar soon thereafter.

Center depth never hurts and letting Rants leave July 1 would be crippling. I think it’s tiddy work. Get a player with only 9 less points, is younger, players center and signed for another year.

I don’t hate it at all

I'm not suggesting he will become Tage Thompson.

If he becomes a 40-50 point physical 3C, that's a fantastic piece. Colorado has a good eye for pro scouting over the last few years. So it wouldn't surprise me to see him put it together there in some way.

I could almost guarantee MacK was told about this before it happened, front office seems to really like involving him into things. The trade just means Rants wanted to test the market (which is his right) and I am sure MacK knows that as well
I know all that. He can still be pissed though
