Duchene returned to an awkward situation but did not let it affect his play the following season. He showed up, practiced and played at the level he was expected to play at.
I don't have any time or patience for this Duchene whitewashing nonsense. He created the awkward situation with his comments in the media, and he absolutely pouted for long stretches prior to being shipped out. You're welcome to lie to yourself about it though

Mikko with McDavid/Draisaitl could've been fun to watch. Too bad.

He looks genuinely happy in those pics. Hard not to feel good for him, right guys? 😬

EVERYONE was atrocious the year before he got traded. Everyone gave up on that team. Every single guy. That’s not a lack of character, it’s just human nature. That team completely imploded by December.

He showed up to the photoshoot at the start of that 17/18 season, too:sarcasm: Legendary!

I don't blame Mikko for Carolina.

I 100% blame Mikko for the way he left Colorado when he could have handled that shit himself from the get go.

I ain't mad, though. I believe the Avs got better moving him.
I ain't mad either - not even close.

For months and months, (for some longer than others) a large potion of peeps have been suggesting that signing Mikko long-term was going to be a mistake. Signing him to anything close to $12M per year was going to shut our window or cause us issues going forward because he's just NOT a $12M player. Not on the Avs, not on the Hurricanes, not on any team. (imo)

Then, he gets moved out to Carolina - and the rhetoric from the general public perspective becomes "OMG... Carolina just got one of the best wingers in the game!! They got the best player - therefore Colorado loses this deal. These types of Top-10 NHL players are very rarely available".

Mikko goes on to crap the bed in Carolina. (6 points in 13 gp? seriously?)

Then he gets moved out to dallas AND signs the 8-year extension and the general perspective is again "OMG... dallas just got one of the best wingers in the game!! They are surely NOW the top team that's going to go on to win the Cup!!!" Maybe so, we'll see... it was also the same kinda thing we heard from Carolina before he played his first game there.

I don't think you can underestimate the impact of adding a new player to a lineup that's just signed a monster contract to a locker room and then having that player not be able to play up to that contract. We've seen what that kind of thing has done to the Boston Bruins with Elias Lindholm (7 years @ $7.75M) for an atrocious 32pts in 64gp. I hope for his sake, that Mikko is going to get his ass in gear and right away too because if he doesn't the rest of that roster is going to be scratching their heads wondering what kind of TDL acquisition that was.

We've just seen the Carolina Hurricanes roll the dice on what they thought was their major missing piece and the fit was terrible. The dallas stars just rolled the dice on the fit as well - they essentially just 'Brad Stuart'ed Mikko Rantanen but for 8 years.

I think that the potential is there for Mikko to play some inspired hockey now that he is with a team that he wanted to sign with and if that is the case, I think he should be a PPG player.

At the same time, I think there's the potential for Mikko to play pretty much the same way he did in Carolina and for the rest of that dallas stars team to wonder - why the f*** did our management just give this guy $12M per ??? No matter what now, he's got his bag - he could be Huberdeau part 2 and if that does become the case, thank you Mikko Rantanen - you couldn't have f***ed over a more deserving franchise.

I have love for the Mikko who put up big goals and points for the Avs. When he was with Carolina I was ambivalent as he was all the way out east. Am I going to have to start hating him as a Star? The only thing he could do that would be worse is to join the green filth.

Mikko was the reason I really started following the NHL and the Avs. My favourite player. I hope he has plenty of personal success, and he returns to form in Dallas. But I hope they get bounced in the 1st round every year from now on.

Today, I hope he has a 10 point game against Edmonton
I vote that they never make the playoffs again.

That wasn't his attitude though, even if he felt that way. It wasn't his choice to go to Carolina.

I think he was trying to be nice and professional about it. That's why he was doing the whole, "Yeah I don't know if I'll sign here before the deadline" thing instead of just being like, "No this place sucks and I hate the style of play."
The thing is... he wasn't thinking. If you were to believe he was, then what he chose... was simply to leave Colorado. That was the only choice he had as a player. Do you want to stay in Colorado or do you want to go somewhere else. Absolutely right, he didn't choose Carolina. He chose Dallas... and correct me if I'm wrong... but didn't he sign for less than what the Avs offered him? Especially with an eighth year.

I'm happy for the guy, he dodged a pretty big financial bullet and came out almost whole. Good for him.

Watching Mikko trying to keep up with Carolina, Dallas system is just painful.

He really needs to work on his speed during the off-season. He has so many bad habits from playing with MacK and just finishing plays. He could get away with a lot of stuff just by being at the right place at the right time. Not anymore..

It's so obvious now when he plays for other teams. It's crazy. I always knew he got a bit lazy but now you see it with clear eyes.

I want to love Moose, but with how everything went down f*** him. Clearly mailed it in with the Canes and then puts the most effort he has in years in a Stars uniform leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

At least he had a losing debut and got rocked a few times.

Since he’s now on the same team with Duchene, they’re probably about to become brothers in the Colorado victimization club. This, of course, ignores that Mikko and Matt aren’t the same guy. One is the cancer behind the 2017 season and the other is not.

My personal feeling is that this Avs team now with all the adversity for Dallas will sweep them in the 1st round.

Saying that it propably will be Rants goal in overtime powerplay from his place that will end our season in game7 😬

Or the Stars bring back Johansen from the dead only to be swept. 😉

The fact that you have this reply suggests you probably still have a Duchene jersey in your closet. Or is that a Rodrigues jersey? It’s hard to tell. 9 has been passed around...kind of like the fake cowboy Duchene.

Apparently Rantanen's GF played a role in the decision making if this wasn't discussed. She wanted a better "night life" when Mikko is on the road. Panarin'ed again.

Holy hell, you just know this team wants Dallas in the 1st round. The Benn hit on Toews, Marchment kicking Mackinnon's stick and now Rantanen. Whoever wins this blood bath is going to win the West.

We got ourself a got damn rivalry here and I just know the core wants blood back. You can just fill it. March 16th is going to be a hell of a game.

Applies to Raleigh, not Denver. He was willing to sign here after all.

And yeah, Mikko pretty much said that straight on at the TSN interview Friday. "On and off the ice, not just for me but Susanna as well, Dallas was a better fit than Carolina".
