Confirmed with Link: [COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

I know this has been said a million times already....but do you want forward depth or Mikko. I prefer depth due to our constant injury issues. Mikko stayed healthy for us....even carried us during Macks injuries, but the risk is always can you keep going and gathering points when a core player goes down. I watched him last night on the Canes...he looked solid considering the situation. Sad to see him in another uniform, but what is done is done and I don't disagree with the decision. I don't think this is our year, team will need to gel, Bednar has to stop running Mack and Cale into the ground. Hope his mindset can change when (IF EVER) we get healthy. Landy is also a huge problem. I am sure they have an internal timeline we don't know about, but as a fan I am HIGHLY skeptical he moves the needle being out this long if he ever comes back. Love the Viking...but his unknown status has killed this team for two years. I don't envy our management at all. I was hoping beyond hope that he travelled with the team because he might make an appearance (naively stupid on my part), now it I am guessing he may have been there for damage control for Mikko's departure to help settle down the team after the shock. Mikko's loss hurts no doubt though, so if any of you think it was an absolute disaster of a decision I understand completely. I will simply agree to disagree. The narrative that he was greedy though...pffft. He has every right to make the money he wants. WE ALL HAVE THAT RIGHT. Loyalty to a company (or team) is a dead concept.

Pointless argument. Nobody here would work again if they had earned 50 million by the time they were 27.
Depends...you make that money (especially at a young age without decent financial responsibility) and your concept of lifestyle and wants/needs changes substantially. Look how many actors/athletes/lottery winners got the lifestyle and blew it all. Suddenly you are back at work wondering what happened and where it all went.

This.

There’s a place and time for it. Behind closed doors. Not for the world to hear how sad you are.
I understand this thinking and it's typically probably better for all, but it's also ok when players are honest about things like this. I don't like airing of grievances and passive aggressive hints about team dynamics in front of the press, but when a major life event (which this was, it undeniably goes beyond hockey here) happens, I have no issue with the players acting human. Nate has a hard time hiding his emotions anyway.

You failed to see the point. Say you are making 3000 bucks a month now, and are offered 4000 bucks a month from another job. Circumstances all very similar, job is similar, all that's going to change is your co-workers. 90% of the people would take that opportunity.

No, you failed to see the point. Earning 100M or 110M makes zero difference in someone's life.

3k/month vs 4k/month does.

Yes, but a 25% increase for someone on 3 thousand isn't the same as a 25% increase for someone on 9 million. This argument comes up all the time on HFBoards in situations like this and it's completely pointless. Millionaire athletes and their lives aren't comparable to you or I in any way.

I think you might be surprised what people turn down to remain in a good situation.

What a naive world view. You as someone who's making really low salary, he'll say the exact same thing to you about 3vs4k. "I make do with 900 bucks a month, so if you want a 1000 bucks more you are a greedy piece of shit!".

These players who make a lot of money, obviously have much more expenses. And everyone one of us would always like a little bit more at our disposal.

By your logic, Nathan MacKinnon is a greedy f*** because he's making 12.6, when he could just as well make do with like 3M bucks a year.

I think you might be surprised what people turn down to remain in a good situation.
Sure, and my point is, his situation isn't going to be that much worse. He's still on a contender, living a good life, and while he loses some friends, he also has friends in Carolina.

By this logic, none of these players should be making the money they are making, and we could just as well complain that MacKinnon insisted on becoming the highest paid player in the league instead of taking like 8M dollars, because he already was rich.

By the end of his career Rantanen will have enough money so he, his kids, his grandkids and his great grandkids won't have to work.

You compare that situation to someone making 3k/month. I don't know what else to say.

I know this was the right move. But overall I’ve struggled to get through games with the team this year. Losing Rants kinda just flatlined it for me.

I am having a tough time wanting to dedicate time to watching games. Weird season overall.

And someone else is making 1k a month, and they make do. What do you say about that? What do you think their message to someone making 3k a month, contemplating switching for 4k a month job would be?

This is f***ing ridicilous, might as well call them all greedy bastards then for making more than 4k, especially knowing they love their job. Not all of us do.

Mikko talking about the situation. He was willing to take a discount to stay compared to his market value. Whatever that means.

He was shocked when he was traded because they were still discussing new contract, not every day but contact was open.

What was his below market value though? If it was 12m instead of 14m there’s a case for something to be worked out, but if it was 13-13.5m then that still really handcuffs the team even worse than 12m.

This just feels like there’s so sort of disconnect, I’m guessing with Mikko’s agent.

He can sign in the summer then.

I think it's not good to compare salaries of normal people to people who make nine million a season. There's just too big gap in terms of everything. It just doesn't relate to problems what normal people have.
