Casey is not that young on the Sabres… And honestly, he’s only leading the team in scoring because everyone else is having a down here that is good. He was definitely the third center and there was no way they are going to pay him when they have so many other prospects in the coppers and krebs ready to fill that role. As an FYI… Two years ago he was a total Bust
He's 25 so yah he is young. If your so called 3rd like center is a leading your team in points and good on the defensive side of the puck then maybe you should re-evaluate whether he should be the 3rd line guy.

Another good strategy trade him so that is opens up room for a young player that Buffalo hopes develops into a player as good as Middelstadt.

It's a choice between a boat and a mystery box. A boat is a boat but a box could be anything, even a boat.

Sabers wonder why they never improve they ship out the talent they acquire through the draft after developing them, the same thing Arizona does, and why these teams are always in limbo

I mean he's only 21, giving up on 1OA that early would be a mistake unless you got back someone similar in age and hype, which when narrowed down to RHD, is about no one.
I don't mean they're giving up on him. I'd assume he has a ton of value and could fetch an equally valuable piece to shore up the other side of the blueline, or a couple of pieces.

Man people still have false hopes on him because he is a former 4OA pick and we all know how much this board loves potential and magic beans

The reality is that he’s too banged up already at age 22, if he’s on your top pair then you are likely not a very good team

Hosed wow. I saw this trade and immediately thought wtf is Buffalo doing what a great trade for the Ave. Trust me I am no Avs fans but I respect how they have built their current team and they fix their mistakes (Johansen).

Buffalo keeps making the same mistakes, this has the potential to be another Reinhart trade for them.

I’m so confused by what Buffalo is doing. They now have THREE defensemen who need to be on PP1 to maximize their value…
Ehh, with our powerplay success rate, we might be better off having all 3 of these players on PP1. Byram can be net front, just have him wear the Conan O'Brian helmet.

stacking one side of the D hasn't worked out great in the past for other teams

if just one of those 3 was right shot.

You can bargain basement shop on the left side much easier, then the right which you usually overpay for.

In what sense? I shouldn't need to clarify this. We gave away the far better and far healthier player.

We have double the years of team control. Casey has grown a ton in the last years, but we have a stud who seems to be healthy now. We'll see. Casey was done in Buffalo. Sabres were not going to have three centres making $7 M

Since we committed to Toews, Girard or Byram needed to go. Byram is the guy with upside left so I’m not shocked it’s him. I am shocked it happened today. Seemed more like an offseason move.

Anyway. Guess I gotta learn how to spell Mittelstadt. He should do a much better job filling Kadri’s role than everyone else has. Good trade.

Was Buffalo afraid of what Mittelstadt was looking for on a new deal?

Not sure I make the trade otherwise if I'm them

I agree, but factor in that Dahlin is way better on his off side and creates more offense. That still leaves Power, Sammy, Ryan, and now Byram. Someone has to go.

Buffalo makes me shake my head everytime they make a trade. Deep on ld and thin on center? Lets trade a good c for a ld? Not hard to see why they consistently Suck. They seems to get talent develop them and trade em.

I kind of like this trade for both teams. Dahlin plays the right side, so I can see why Adams added Byram to bolster the D. Sabres are thin on D prospects, have Tage and Cozens locked up at C with many forward prospects coming, aren't Savioe and Ostlund centers? Remains to be seen if they play C at the NHL level.

I absolutely love Mitts for Buffalo. Kinda floored right now but I also just had back surgery so should stop posting….
