We’ll see. I thought he was going to come close to 50 last year and was way wrong. So…
Having laine may draw some attention away too , but he’s missing so much time it may take a while for him to reappear

The problem is that it's not just one player, but the entire lot who are making mistakes.

I'm wasting far too much time trying to understand why players are making mistakes. The more I look, the broader the defensive lapses spread. A certain player may make a mistake but then I find that other players are not in position to mitigate said mistake. Worse of all, we have average (or worse) goaltending that doesn't bail us out.

If we go back to the other times we had a sub par team, we had Jesus Price in nets saving us. Now we have Primeau and Monty playing for converted touchdowns.

Best way to describe this team is "systemic defensive failures".

Will SmartyMarty change that? I doubt it. It's not a player or 3, it's most of the guys who are just not working hard enough and smart enough to understand how to play as a cohesive, defensive team. Never mind a "hybrid" system...just because Smartymarty saw someone else do it.

Lastly, when SmartyMarty opens his mouth and said that other teams have this or that system, they don't have the youngest team in the NHL that is still in NHL diapers. Nor the very high quality forwards or defenseman helping out. Hello Monahan!

Whatever....it's so frustrating that on principle I don't even want to pay 5 bucks to RDS to watch this clown show.

They way things are going I'm beginning to think there will be some set backs in Laine's return.
It just seems like a movie we've seen before when hoping for a potential star's return the the lineup.

Wow, this thread is unbearable.

It's almost as if people were expected us to be a contending team with a tight defensive system with 5 (FIVE!!!) 23 and under defensemen in the line-up (not counting Mailloux), with average caliber goaltending and with a bunch of overpaid and ineffective veterans on expiring contracts.

If you didn't expect defensive problems coming into this season, you didn't follow well.

Check how many years it took the Avs to be a contender in their reconstruction, despite having a bunch of superstars. The Habs don't have the tools to make it 2 times faster.

Patience, patience, patience.

It obviously is just bad coaching and lack of effort. A proper coach and full throttle effort would have us in the mix :sarcasm:

St. Louis should be fired. This is a results business, and the results are very poor. I understand that Habs are in a redevelopment phase, but the team isn't progressing, at least not fast enough. That is the coach' responsibility, and he should take the consequence of his poor job performance and quit. I'm guessing that won't happen, so he should be fired.
MSL won't be fire in the middle of the season. Habs is just not ready to be in the ''mix''. Maybe next year with Demidov coming and a healthy Laine.

MSL has two more years at minimum. He is developing like the rest of the roster.

He's still dealing with the franken-roster of the Hugo regime and the holdovers from Bergevins bottom 6 spending spree.

Marty is starting to grow a pair and it needs to continue.
Keep leading with PP 2 if the first wave plays with that slow plodding methodical nothing they are giving us.
It's not normal the second wave can fire the puck around quicker and more accurately than our top players.
I think it's high time we looked at personnel and primary roles.

I agreed. Next season is very important for MSL. If he can't take this club out of the bottom 5. Is going to be his last season with us. The coach are always the first scapegoat.
