I love Mathesons effort. As probably the best skater on the team, he's somehow last ? What a shit vet. Can't wait for the love affair to be done. I hate that man with every single fiber of my body.

Look at Mathesons effort level. He's an absolute puke. I hate that f***ing man.

Yeah, but how do you feel about Matheson?

If Montgomery get fired by the Bruins I hope they pick him up. Pascal Vincent is another solution.

I hope they won't give a chance to the old generation like Vigneault or Hartley.

Man, St-Louis last 2 press conference and look was bored by the situation.

The media only showed the skating at the end, but in LaPresse this morning, they mentioned most of the exercices at practices were focusing on defense despite being skating heavy. And they all did them.

Well minus Savard who had a therapy day and Matheson who was with RHP and the skating rehab trainer.
Is Lapresse positive about that because Mrb1p saw him on the ice putting in little effort?

This board is bipolar. For years people wanted a coach who was more offense oriented and now that we have one, people are complaining about the defense.

And speaking of defense, MSL can only do so much with what he has to work with.

I never bought bought it to this " we have so much depth on defense" crap that was being spewed during the offseason so i'm not the least surprised of our defensive struggles.

Struble, Harris, Xhejak, were/are all barely NHL material. Never liked the Savard signing - he was already trending down and is now on his last legs. What exactly does he bring? Experience? IF that was it, there were way better options.

Matheson has his moments, but there is a reason he's already been traded twice.

Guhle is the real deal, but he is constantly injured, so it diminishes his value.

I had my doubts about Hutson, but he's been a pleasant surprise. I just worry the minute he takes a bone crushing hit.

We have an offense oriented system? Do tell! When did this happen??? Is it the drop pass?

We really do.
The problem is we have no energy to deploy it properly because we spend so much time running around in our Dzone. :sarcasm:

I love how we've gone from our greatest strength and depth is our D two years ago to Marty has nothing to work with.
Yet It's the people who are questioning the methods of development who are bi-polar

The drop pass is just a product of the copycat league that is the NHL. Everyone is doing it.

It obviously become a parody of itself when you need to (re)gain the zone 5-6-7-8-[...] times per PP like the Habs used to in the two previous years.

We think we have an offensive system. MSL doesn't have a team who could do well having an offensive system or a defensive system. He could use the first line as an offensive line but the other lines can only survive and hope for the best.

The medias and the Habs Communication Department did a good job as boosting MLS as a coach with a lot of vision and top offensive mentoring. It worked with CC and Suzuki. But the rest of the team have serious flaws in skills, skating and nhl experience. In any way we can look at it, it will take patience and patience. There are no fast and magic solution.

The team is so much under nhl standards that it's almost impossible to identify what kind of system MSL try to implant with his team.

When was the last time we had the top goal scorer in the league?

It's Nov 1st, at one time Ryan Poehling was on the road to 200 goals as well. You don't think Cole is going to keep up this pace do you? So one guy has 10 goals and we have a system? Our next best player has 4 f***ing goals lol

Sigh...

I kept being told that Cole was a 40 to 50 goal scorer, which i was skeptical about, but now that he is in fact trending that way, you’re writing it off?

Im not the biggest fan of Suzuki but as people keep saying, he’s top 15 amongst centers, so I guess hes not offensive to you.

Evans is doing well too

Slaf has yet to get it going, but last year MSL did not give up on him during his struggles when most said to send him down and guess what, he finished with 20 goals.

Hutson is amongst the top point getters for rookies.

Mathewson had had arguably the best offensive season for a defenseman since Markov

Dach looked like he was gonna have a huge season last year before his injury

Newhook was very good last year too despite missing so much time

Sadly these two have started off extremely slow but they’ll come around

And we have yet to see Laine

Do you honestly think the same guys would have thrived under any other coach we’ve had in the past 30 years?

The only positive I see watching this team is individuals who are doing well. Well, 3 of them : CC, Suzuki and Hutson. It's not a team that I watch, I watch and enjoy stars performing into a buch of bad mixed players pretending to be a team. It's not a team sport anymore what's happening with the Habs. It's a individual fans star system like in nba. Maybe it could work good selling jerseys but a team who isn't oriented into a team is not gonna have success. Hockey will always remain a team's sport.

The Identity.
If we analyse the fans reactions and discussions, it's all oriented on specific stars and the concept of a "team" is something for the Bruins, the Kings or the Panthers, for example. Habs identity is going into a small group of favorite players into a vague blurry mix of players (team). 60% of Habs fans are already set to buy that identity.

We wouldn't look nearly as Pejorative Slured defensively under Jacques Martin

So because three players and a rookie are doing well, this is good? Because speculating that Dach was going to be good after 1 game last year is too much. Newhook isn’t actually good, so it’s weird to bring him up. Evans looks good for a 4th liner, this means nothing. Matheson is just mooching off the success of the top line.

Meanwhile the veterans keep looking worse and worse yet have an infinite leash. Every defender has stagnated or regressed. if you’re into cheering for individual players to succeed, that’s you. I want the team to succeed eventually.

Ryan Poehling didn’t have Caufield’s pedigree and never scored in the NHL the way Caufield has already demonstrated he can.

He won’t keep up that pace but he should hopefully have the year he should have had last season and get close to 50.

No.

But it’s more than just three players who’ve developed well under MSL. Almost all of our prospects have done well. That’s more important than anything.

The question is: would they have developed anyway? Maybe. But maybe not. We saw what was happening to CC under Ducharme for example.

Because speculating that Dach was going to be good after 1 game last year is too much. Newhook isn’t actually good, so it’s weird to bring him up. Evans looks good for a 4th liner, this means nothing. Matheson is just mooching off the success of the top line.

Dach and Newhook progressed well under MSL and both ran into health issues that interrupted their success.

Dach is obviously still getting back
To form. Newhook is not a good enough player to carry the 2nd line. They need Dach to bounce back.

He has the talent no question , but I suspect they will target in on him more at some point. I hope he does hit 50 I love the kid.

Strong offense starts with a good defense. If you want to play a possession game, you need to get back the puck first :)

Dcore is not great but you should be able to do better as MSL. Anderson Evans Gallagher Dvorak Armia are all bottom 6 players (overpaid ones for sure) there is no reason the forecheck is not better…

For me Brindamour is the best coach in the NHL right now : how many years does he overperform when he has no McDavid, Crosby, MacKinnon… CAR looks like a strong defensive team with Ghost Chatfield Burns in the lineup…

We’ll see. I thought he was going to come close to 50 last year and was way wrong. So…
