Ohhh I don't think we're moving on for a long time.

This most recent meltdown maybe the straw that broke the camels back for some fans. I have never seen the base get this pissed off in recent failures.
I think Salute Gate in 14-15 was much more toxic. After that, ownership and Shanahan had to go full rebuild or risk a major fan backlash.

if they’re no longer enjoying being a Leaf fan, then they just pick another team or stop watching hockey, All forms of moving on.

But to be honest, a lot of sports fan behaviour makes little sense to me. Sure, it’s fun to see your team win it all, but it’s hardly a life-changing experience. I love the Jays as much as I love the Leafs and it was great seeing them win their two World Series and I loved their runs in 2015 and 201, but none of it had much of an impact on my life, except perhaps spending way too much money on tickets in 2015/16 :).

When a season is done, win or lose, it’s time to direct the energy and time spent on following the team to other pursuits. Too many things to do in life to put that much emphasis on one entertainment product.

As a diehard sports/leafs fan who had a several day hangover from the loss, I must be in the minority that this doesn't really bother me much. It doesn't change what happened in any way, and I don't expect every person in this city or city official to be a diehard Leafs fan so who cares. When the Leafs get knocked out I just have complete apathy for the NHL tbh, even if the Habs win the Cup I will get a full night's sleep that night. Meh.

Agreed!

How this bothers anyone is beyond me? It is a big FU to MLSE and we should all be in favour of that. Do people seriously not understand we have hit rock bottom and this is irrelevant compared to what recently happened to us? We are a corpse right now with zero feeling. There is nothing left to kick to get a reaction out of us. Heck maybe when we lose to the Lightning next year in humiliating fashion we can pretend the Leafs actually one when the CN Tower is lit up in Blue and White.

I mean this is both correct and wrong. This is a pretty awful feeling and fans are allowed to be furious. Many of us have other avenues of comfort, goals, and excitement to fulfill our lives.

It doesn't change the fact that we watched this team grow and show promise only to falter the exact same way again. Life and sporting Fandom is alot more complicated than telling someone to find other enjoyments. We all got out of bed the next day and moved on in our lives in one way or another. I don't think anyone is lying in bed in deep depression over the latest Leafs collapse. Doesnt mean you can't be furious towards the Leafs over this latest debacle.

meh... I guess these CN tower lights could be upsetting to someone if they have the emotional maturity of a 12 year old

Same people complain about nationalism ironically.
I don't care what country the team is from if it's not my team. In fact I'd rather a US team win it over Montreal. Cause I gotta hear it from their fans.

‘And if the Leafs won, they’d hear it from you and other Leaf fans, so stop being a hypocrite. :shakehead

every year since 93 people have been collectively rooting for last cdn team standing. I have supported: OTT, EDM, CAL, VAN.. even cheering on Winnipeg in the Semi final while in Vegas.
CN tower is a federal building.
Raptors were being cheered by the whole country, even Blue Jays.
Let it go guys. If Habs win, it will be the first for a cdn team in almost 30 years.
At this point, yes, your civic duty is to cheer on Habs.

People should cheer for whatever team they want to. Who cares if a team is based in Canada or the US?

Stop the fake news. Firstly, there is no civic duty when it comes to cheering for a Canadian team to win the cup that's a ridiculously dumb opinion.

Cheering for Montreal is the same as cheering for Boston.

Leaf fans have no ties or reason to support the mtl team as a whole. They can perhaps have a player they like and would tolerate winning but no leaf fan wishes Habs win a cup.

In 2004 no oiler fan wanted the Flames to win
In 2006 no flames fan wanted the Oilers to win

In 2011 CAD fans wanted Boston(as gross as that is) to win over the Canucks.

Canadian team fans hate one another and wouldn't cheer for another to win. Everyone of them wants to end the 93 curse and win the cup. No one wants for another team to win

The reason the Raptors were being cheered is because they're the only Canadian team. If the Grizzlies were still in Vancouvar than BC would be cheering for them over the Raptors as would potentially Alberton fans

Same applies for MLB. Back when Montreal had the expos, fan support was lower for the jays with an alternative. Now with no other Canadian team, their is patriotism with people cheering for Toronto as they represent the country as a whole

Montreal Candiens don't represent Canada in hockey. There are 6 other teams. Fans of those teams will always cheer there own team and hate the others.

Even if we hadn't choked a 3-1 lead to the Habs no leaf fan would seriously be voting for them to win the cup.

Well, i grew up in mtl a huge Habs fan since early 80s.. now live in Toronto. Ill cheer on the Leafs every playoff.
We gotta put the bs 1960s to rest. There was at least 30 years where there was no rivalry btw lwafs habs.. and in todays diva driven nhl, players flip teams all the time - they have no loyalty. So, when i cheer for Leafs, im really cheering for Toronto fans (long suffering) to win. I could care less about players. They live in the clouds.

Ps. I damn well cheered for Vancouver v NYR and BOS.
