Ehlers was just trying to surprise the goalie on the shootout. Didn't work. Not sure if a deke would've been any better. Would've been nice if Brossoit could've come up with more than one stop in the shootout...

Between the Pipes
This is equivalent to the NHL shootout...

Once it gets to a shootout I no longer care what happens because it's a joke anyways. I'm sure not going to get upset because of the move someone tries in the shootout.

Just keep Kyle Connor out of the trade speculation, his defense will improve and 30 plus goal scorers don't grow on trees

Doubt his defense improves much. But his scoring would be very difficult to replace.

The strength of this team is our 3 young top 6 wingers. None of them should be traded.

Ehlers probably will be because he is underappreciated and badly used by Maurice. We will lose that trade. He will be a star player on whatever team is lucky enough to get him.

Plausible (the former). I certainly think that's its infinitely more likely than the suggestion he threw the game away because he was pissed he only got 15:26 of ice-time in the previous game, enduring it with a bunch of scrubs, and decided to basically crap on not only the coach, but also his teammates and friends, and the organization that drafted him and is paying him tens of millions of dollars. And us (the Winnipeg community and fans). More likely - fake slapper, decided to make it a real one.

Yep. He's a gamer, and a team-first guy, no way he does that deliberately. This is not Days of Our Lives. Pulled a move from his playbook and blew it. Plenty of ways to miss in a shootout, and many of those are still more embarrassing (looking any you, Marchand).

Another brutal start but a great greasy effort to pull out a point, and The Pastry was at his buttery best until the shootout, which whatever. Thought he was great last night, especially in the 3rd, when they needed him.

Brutal shootout decision by Ehlers.
Saying that, I think Ehlers is our most talented player and should be right at the top in icetime.
I do think his slapper was a message to PoMo.

There is no way Ehlers was sending a message to Mau. Not when Mau has just given him a SO opportunity.

The only message that could possibly be was 'trade me'. That is not a message you send to the coach. You tell your agent to deliver that message to the GM.

It was just a poor SO decision.

As Blake Wheeler said in the post game interview -re- the Bitteto fight --he said " we don't really have guys to do that anymore " That basically tells me the Jets are playing scared and easily intimidated.

The Jet's are going to have some bigger tougher guys in the lineup to protect our talent guys, or we will continue to "play scared." Adam Lowry is a huge help for this, as he's one of the toughest guys in the NHL --but to bad he's injured. We need a couple more "very physical" type players, to stop all the cheap shots on our smaller guys like Pionk etc.

The Jet's should draft, or trade for some big physical type defenseman, and add a couple of forwards, that are also very physical. We won't win a majority of our games, if the players are playing scared, and they are. Also I think the Wheeler contract was for "too long" and will really be hurting us in a couple years. While your at it --get rid of Little--too expensive --too small, and getting older now --so bring in some young guys. Little is good though -- but will start to fade fast.

After that --get rid of Perrault ( too small)--buy him out-- also get rid of Eakins ( too small) and to expensive for what he brings.

I'm also starting to think Maurice is only going to take this team to average or a little above average levels -- even though I like him and have backed him up on here. I think it's time for a new coach. I don't like his deployment of Ehlers and some other players. We cannot go wrong to get in a new coach, with a proven track record.

In a nutshell --this team really needs a partial rebuild -- starting on defense.

The bolded is nonsense. It means just what it said. They no longer keep a fighter on the roster. Neither do most other teams.

I would just love to know what it is that Carolina does to get their players to play with that level of intensity.. same goes with Boston and so on, and then figure what we are missing or what is stopping us from playing to that level and either get it or get it the F out.

Most NHL teams rarely if ever dominate for the “full 60 minutes”. There is almost always an ebb and flow where each team gets their time to pitch and catch.

Ebb and flow is one thing. Starting the game like it is the pre-game warmup like the Jets have done quite often this year is something else altogether. For whatever reason they are just not ready to play when the puck drops. Its been like this all season.

Wrong , most teams do . In a playoff round we would be picking up the scraps playing a team like Washington . We did not look scared but we were getting physically hammered and in a playoff series it would be worst . Buff Trouba Chiarot gone and Lurch on IR makes a vulnerable physically .

A more "high percentage" effort would have been nice. And Brossoit looked like he was "surprised" by every shot.

...so Orlov can go head hunting and our players look around for a desk to hide under.

I think after Washington's next playoff run, a "correction" will take place in the NHL. I'm not saying that we'll have a return to the big, bad 70's, but that era was kick-started by an easily intimidated Flyer team getting pushed around by the Blues in the playoffs. They decided that wasn't going to happen again and loaded up on goons.

Now, Washington has Wilson, Gudas, Dillon, Orlov... and when they meet the Pens in the playoffs and the only player Pittsburgh has to stand up to them is Malkin....

Well, let's just say a correction may be coming sooner rather than later. Not to the 70's or 80's (because hockey was much more violent even before the Flyers era) but teams won't leave themselves vulnerable to a spanking anymore.

I'd have hoped that everyone knows the difference between Denmark & The Netherlands.

The Danish aren't the Dutch. Even a Dutchie looks nothing like a Danish!

Fun fact. In Denmark "a Danish" is called Vienna bread.

Also, at least once every couple of weeks when I tell people I'm Danish they start telling me how wonderful of a time they had in Amsterdam  My theory is that Americans only learn geography from going to war ;)

No, most teams do not anymore.

Being a physical team has nothing whatever to do with employing a designated helmet puncher. Different story altogether.

I'm not sure how well this team is built for the playoffs, where the NHL uses a different rule book. (How weird is that?) But since it is not likely to make the PO, that isn't an issue. It will be a different team by the time it becomes a legitimate PO team. See what it looks like then.

See my post #198.

Washington has Wilson, Gudas, Dillon and Orlov. They can all play hockey. None of them is a designated fighter. Do you think any of those guys would play any differently if we still had Thorburn to challenge them? If you want to meet a big, mean, dirty team with an equally big, mean, dirty team that is another story altogether. It is still not affected by having a designated enforcer.

Great comeback , got a point . Brossoit started slow but got better as the game went on , the shoot-out though , he was absolutely awful . Your goalie has to make more than one save in a shoot-out .

You might want to credit the shooters he faced in the SO.
