That game was so lopsided in the first half of the game. Score effects came into play later, Washington sat back in the third which opened the door and made it look for a while that we actually can skate with a team like the Capitals. News flash - we can't. They dominated the play when they wanted to both skillfully and physically, and dominated the overall total scoring chances in the game. They had 4x as many high danger chances as us in the first and 3x as many in the second. Third period - score effects but they still ended the game with twice as many high danger chances. In the third, they were sitting back to protect the lead. We did take advantage and got some lucky breaks (like having our 7th skater playing the puck in front of the linesman while 2 skaters are still breaking towards the bench to dive over to get off the ice and no penalty is called LOL). Brossoit had a really solid games, except the shootout. The best break was when their own defenseman scored for us off of his skate while Nickels was body zamboniing the ice in front of Holtby to secure the tie.

Good on the boys for taking advantage of the Caps taking their foot off of the gas and trying to coast to victory. I don't think they will make the same mistake in Winnipeg. Anytime you get a point in the opposing team's barn after being down 3, its a good day.

I stopped watching this one, something I almost never do. Can’t believe they did a comeback.
I stopped, started, stopped then started again. Happy I did but despite the comeback this team is missing something and it could be injuries, chemistry or coaching but I cannot see them keeping pace with Calgary or Nashville.

In the end the Ehlers slapper was no worse penalty shot than those of Laine and Connor - none of them scored. I think you can see Ehlers hesitating as he starts to shoot, IMO it looks like he was going to fake it, but then decided to take the shot anyway. That, or maybe his plan was to "double fake it" all along, but I don't think you can get full power to it that way. In any case it was not a great attempt, but then again had he scored, imagine what this thread would look like :P I'm just saying Ehlers was again one of our best forwards and in the OT he made a really good case why he should be starting them always, clearly a lot smarter 3v3 player than either Scheif or Wheels, a stupid brain fart in the skills competition shouldn't overshadow his overall play.

Btw. this was the first game where Maurice went back to his old ways of 22 minutes to 1st line and 15 to the rest. I really hope it was just a single incident. While I'm at it, I really think he should split 55-26 ASAP, 18-19 team was a lot stronger roster and it didn't work out, I'm not sure why it would work out now. 55-26 had their season(s) to carry the team together from the front, 17-18 was great, largely because of very good 2ndary scoring from the Stastny line, 18-19 was a disaster. It's time to start reducing Wheelers role and minutes, at this point he brings a lot more value leading from the 2nd line and it seems whenever Maurice puts 81-55-26 together, he can't help himself but give them all the minutes. I think the team plays stronger with more balanced top-6. I also think Wheeler stays a lot more effective if he plays 17-19 minutes a night instead of 19-22+

Nice comeback win after a slow 1st period. Hopefully this will propel us to to put a few wins together. Florida did us a favor last night and we need to take advantage of that

I agree with people on this team. With what happened to the defense this year, no one and I mean no one was giving us a chance and yet here we are still battling. This team is really tight knit from what I can see. Ehlers is getting 6.75 Million a year long term and you think he is "upset". The only thing he can be mad about is not getting more PP time and I am sure he is making a case for just that. He got 17 minutes of even strength time last night and yes he tried something that did not work in that shoot out but so what?
Sounds good but we did not win. We only got the loser point.:(

And needs to stop. You can defend without attacking and can we stop with the buds bros whatever. Just goes both ways full stop. Which I agree, but, isn’t necessary.
Chill bro.

No harm meant when I wrote bud.

Just that it goes both ways, and it seems alot of the time, that the people who call it out, are often guilty of doing it the other way around.

Really?? Do you even know how much 6 million is? Not worth playing???

Should go without saying...most of us here have probably experienced/endured far worse treatment at their own day jobs, for far less money.

I'd guess Ehlers would probably say he's got it pretty good in the NHL; Getting 15-18 minutes a night and generally shuffling around in the top six perennialy. Sure he could use a few more minutes but he doesn't come across as a diva who would react that way. I know there might be some coach/player relationships that are genuinely so terrible it might not be worth the cash (re: Babcock) but no evidence of anything like that here.

even if you think it’s cool, I kindly asked you to stop, there is nothing unchill about that.

Calling it out is a good thing. That doesn’t mean we can’t be hypocrites and all have room for improvement. I know I do. So does that mean we should just stop? Accept status quo because we have done the same bad behaviour? I don’t think so. But you have to answer that for yourself.

He is an incredible player. Who played a great game. Who knows what was going on in his head with that slapper. That doesn’t erase a great game. It also doesn’t stop from puzzling a strange play.

Replayed Ehlers Penalty Shot.

It was a legitimate attempt.

5Hole was open; he just missed by 2cm’s.
If you are truly trying to go five hole you don’t take a slap shot from long range.

Not sure what he was thinking but pissed off is more likely I think.

Gotta say there is no quit in these Jets. They start slow but never give up. Not a recipe for a win streak but is entertaining.

The Jets were pushed around like a bunch of school girls. The losses of Buff, Chairot, Tanev, Myers and the injury to Lowry really showed. Someone should have given Orlov a beating, but we don't have anybody in our lineup capable of that. And if not that, then at least we should have been hammering their players in front of the net and along the boards, but we don't have anybody who can do that either. And I constantly read about the "new NHL" and how we will be just fine with waif-like defensemen like Niku, Pionk and Heinola. Sorry, but when the playoffs start and we end up against real contenders we'd get squished. I think we need a little size and a little ruggedness.
If BooBoo isn't going to hit or respond by going after Orlov he is absolutely useless to us . Would way rather have Niku play over him but Niku keeps tripping on his hair apparently and hurting himself .

If Ehlers did that to prove a point , which i absolutely don't believe , he's a complete cement head . All that's gonna do is let him wear suits at games instead of equipment .

I appreciate this thought. :) But the shift, the opening up of our play in the third ruled. The Jets would have destroyed Buffalo with the level of effort, and open game that we saw in last nights third.

BUT

Wheels has to suck it up, hold a Coaches' meeting with Coach Mo, kick Huddy and Compon out of the room, get out his paddle and coerce/cajol/connive Mo to place him back to the second line centre role. Kapitan is good at that. And, he's done his job, Shuffles has got the Funk Out.

EDIT: Tip of the hat to you and @Ginger Papa, (and for the one point gained) I will give some props to the Iron Maidens. This is not easy stuff to play, but this band can really play!!! Surprised to see they are coming to Winnipeg.

As Blake Wheeler said in the post game interview -re- the Bitteto fight --he said " we don't really have guys to do that anymore " That basically tells me the Jets are playing scared and easily intimidated.

The Jet's are going to have some bigger tougher guys in the lineup to protect our talent guys, or we will continue to "play scared." Adam Lowry is a huge help for this, as he's one of the toughest guys in the NHL --but to bad he's injured. We need a couple more "very physical" type players, to stop all the cheap shots on our smaller guys like Pionk etc.

The Jet's should draft, or trade for some big physical type defenseman, and add a couple of forwards, that are also very physical. We won't win a majority of our games, if the players are playing scared, and they are. Also I think the Wheeler contract was for "too long" and will really be hurting us in a couple years. While your at it --get rid of Little--too expensive --too small, and getting older now --so bring in some young guys. Little is good though -- but will start to fade fast.

After that --get rid of Perrault ( too small)--buy him out-- also get rid of Eakins ( too small) and to expensive for what he brings.

I'm also starting to think Maurice is only going to take this team to average or a little above average levels -- even though I like him and have backed him up on here. I think it's time for a new coach. I don't like his deployment of Ehlers and some other players. We cannot go wrong to get in a new coach, with a proven track record.

In a nutshell --this team really needs a partial rebuild -- starting on defense.

Seriously my objective at the end of training camp next year would be to have Pionk and Morrissey in my starting 6 and none of the others back. Maybe a couple of them on the Moose for depth and the rest gone. Easier said than done but it's the obvious priority.

I am confused, if Ehlers had taken a wrist shot and missed it would be all good? Ehlers does that a lot. It's a controller slapper. His first NHL goal he used that shot. It's deceptive for the goalie to read. He missed to he's an idiot, amiright?
No , somehow it would be Maurice . ;)

I think DeMelo can play , i would have him back and i'm not ready to give up on Niku yet .

Cody Eakin is all well and good, but the local boy I wish we landed was Reaves. I'd take his 2.75 million a year with what he brings. Offense-wise, he's not much behind Lowry and probably with a lot less ice time. He's certainly more valuable than anybody we currently have on the fourth line.

The Jets should give this McDonald's employee a shot .
