Since both lines are excellent they can just alternate both units depending on which group is going in each game & give them about a full minute each.

1st Unit - Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson, Chabot & Pinto
1st Unit - DeBrincat - Stutzle - Giroux, Sanderson or Brannstrom & Zub

I disagree with having Debrincat and Norris on the same PP. They are both trigger men.
Exactly. At the end of the year teams were figuring out all they had to do was cheat towards blocking norris's 1-tee on the pp.

Both on the top pp which would get first faceoff and majority of the pp would be unstoppable

I can’t see Stü off the first unit. What an awesome problem to have, too many PP1
Ya Stu was our best player at entering the zone cleanly.

Brady - Norris - Debrincat
Batherson - chabot, is an awesome powerplay once setup but I don't trust them to enter the zone cleanly.

I do too. And they're opposite side trigger men making it harder to move the puck both ways.

No team took all year to figure that out. They watch video. The Sens were set up all year for the Norris one timer. Knowing a team is setting up for that and preventing are different.

Both on the PP on opposite sides doesn't really work that well for one timers. It's not easy for the LHD to put the puck in the wheelhouse of a shooter off the left side half wall

These are some of the most skilled players in the NHL - passing a puck through an open lane to a stationary target is not an issue for a L or R handed player.

Taking 1 of our 2 top goal scorers off the first unit seems crazy to me. They should both be out there ready to either one-time or simply snipe if they get room to take a few steps in and rip one. Having a PK have to worry about triggers on either side puts us at an advantage and its not like Norris or le Chat can't pass through the zone to each other as well.

We can still have Pinto as a trigger man on the PP2 unit as well as I expect them to work him in to the mix given what he showed in college and in practices early last year.

It's not an issue of making the pass

It's an issue of the extra time it takes to pivot allowing the D to close the lane and the goalie to square up

I shoot right. It is far far easier to pass to my left for that one time shot. It allows for touch redirects. If I have to pass to my right, I need to receive the puck and pivot. That takes time. It changes the one time shot angle. The time allows the D to close the lane and the goalie to square up.

I think it is minimal and when you know where you are going you can make a one-touch pass. I am a righty too and can push a one-touch to my right without really taking any more time.

At the end of the day, the threat of 2 pure snipers is what will have the biggest impact to the PK and how they try to defend us. It should also really open up the down low play.

Also not sure how either of those guys would feel about being moved to the 2nd unit.

Our PP was pretty awesome to end the year.

I suspect we’ll see two units as they have already mentioned.

I wonder if we see both line have their own PP with Chabot on one and Bran on the other. Add Pinto and Joseph into the mix, or Sanderson…

Could help build chemistry with the new Stucat line…

I personally don’t see us putting both trigger men on the same PP as we already use lots of options around Norris to get him open.

We have some sweet down low and bumper plays to capitalize on, in fact what we really need is a bomb from the point to cover all bases.

What are our expectations from Giroux?

20 goal 35-45 assist guy and we’re happy? I think those are reasonable numbers and I think they are easily attainable on this team.

I think so. The way he was producing over the past few years, anything meaningfully more than 20 goals is reversing the trend, and 35-45 assists would be him boosting his point totals significantly as well.

In a vacuum he would not look good for 6.5 million, but he's not being paid 6.5 to carry the offense. He's being paid 6.5 to contribute 55-60 ish points and mentor a young group while also being a merch / ticket / org credibility machine.

Staying healthy and playing 70+ games will likely be all that's needed to raise his production to "acceptable" levels.

I think it's a matter of how well he gels with linemates but I expect .8-.9 ppg. I think we'll be thrilled with Claude if he manages anything north of 65 points.

Usage will be a big factor too. If he's QB'ing the 1st PP unit, vs the 2nd, that will probably make a 10-15 pts difference in production.

This will be an interesting year in terms of production for our players. Giroux could leach away some of the opportunities that typically would go to Stutzle (or Batherson), and DeBrincat could do the same with Norris. There's only so many prime mins to go around. People will call it regression, but it's not that simple.

One big thing all this new found depth will do for us is make us far more difficult to play against on the road, matchups will no longer be as simple as they once were. Also, the additional depth should help with our play in 3rd periods when we have to shorten the bench (or rather, perhaps we won't need to as often).

DJ has never coached this team when we had a second line. It was always a marginal/improving first line, a decent 3rd line, and two fourth lines.

I do hope Giroux "leaches" away some production from Stu so that he doesn't get a contract that's too much more then Norris lol

I love the offensive depth we have

Add in being clutch in the dot and a few gritty plays (namely dropping Gallagher and flexing on Marner) to support his teammates and play into the hometown boy taking on the rivals.

Impossible - Stu is a supernova this year.
