Bloodline stuff got me thinking about what other long form stories in wrestling that were on this level.

Two that come to mind are Mega Powers exploding and the original Taker and Kane feud.

I don't know if I can put Sting/Hogan up there too because of how botched the landing was. It would be, but that Starcade was a disaster

Well Taker and Kane was good up until their first Wrestlemania match. Then it just got ridiculous unless Austin was involved. Most overrated feud of all time is Taker vs. Kane. Too many ridiculous stories and mostly bad matches.

That's pretty much true. The initial storyline was crazy but interesting, but after they started wrestling each other (and the matches were never noteworthy, either against each other or tagging) it was just a lazy well that wwe would go to sporadically.

Probably the Mega Powers because there's nothing because I can't think of anything that's lasted 3 years. I'm pretty sure Vince just said "1000 days bitches!" and they've just been going along with it because they were afforded to take their time by that measure. The only continuous angle I can think of (in terms of duration) that even comes close is the NWO. And imagine it going on for so long and being so played out that the only thing left they can think of to do is the fingerpoke of doom and nullifying a blood feud that lasted however long that was. Eddy my man, I applaud you for holding out for this long and being a faithful WWE fan. If this is as good as you're saying, I can all but assure you this comes from the genius of Paul Heyman. Roman is one of the most boring, redundant and predictable figures I have ever seen and combined with my unforgivable sin of only defending it on PPV and doing it sparingly. Whatever pedestal he has ascended to is on the shoulders of the giant that is The Wise Man. I don't care if he had a 5 star match somewhere. I watched the most anticipated match in probably 5 years when he squared off with Sami and he spammed kickouts, superman punches, stood there pouring conditioner out of his hair, didn't use the energy in the building and didn't apply one elementary submission maneuver. He's garbage and Vince loves him for his family name.

You are a true fan and a better man than I could ever hope to be. I'm too petty to support WWE in its current state despite consuming years of content and writing about it daily on this thread for dozens of pages

Just finished Vengeance 2002. A few thoughts

The Lesnar hype rocket hit a bump on the way to the moon. But fear not it was an asteroid and it was completely demolished. Hype rocket is in moon orbit

Jericho is starting to get a bit stale. I was worried this would happen. He starts off fantastic as a heel and starts to fall off

I forgot what a push Cena started with. Not bad for a guy who looks like a generic create a wrestler in a video game. Who also comes out to the generic music

You hear that? That's the sound of HHH not wanting to work Tuesdays for like another 5 years

Is the Shawn Michaels character brain dead? No I'm serious. Is he stupid or just the worst and most unobservant friend of all time? Dude strolls out like "FRIENDSHIP AND FUN!" to someone who is pathologically obsessed with being champion. This is like your best friend in the entire world offering you to go get steak and liquor at a strip club and you're not only a recovering alcoholic but you're a vegan who is married and is trying to not relapse back into the club scene again too. Dude wants his championship. I can't think of another human being who ever wanted friendship and fun less than HHH right now. Jesus Christ... Shawn is lucky he doesn't die over this because it's a distraction.

Edit: nevermind he will die as soon as he's not useful. The impending heel turn by HHH fits the character all too well

And HHH attacks Shawn Michaels. My God I can only imagine how shocking that was when it happened. Makes sense though.

This feud with Bischoff and Stephanie is hilarious. Brock getting into the limo at the end of Raw was as clever as anything we've seen

We're only 10 minutes into Smackdown fresh off Vengeance and we already got "KEEERRRTTT! YER DAYS OF BEIN NUMBER ONE'RE OVER KEEERRRTTT! WHATSAMADDER KEEERRRTTT? PRESSHUR GETTIN TEW YA KEEERRRTTT?? NO WERRIEZ KEEERRRTTT I'M NUMBER ONE NOW KEEERRTTT! KEEEEERRRRRTTTTT" You could do something as harmless as taking a drink of water every time Lesnar says "Kert" in his career and you'd risk something life threatening

Jesus Christ Brock Lesnar wasn't already enough of a phenomenon on his own. The son of a bitch literally pronounces words the way someone with bad spelling would write them

Roman is trash. He just got put in a decent story and they turned it up to 11 and refused to do or put any effort into anything else. He is three repetitive moves, three repetitive facial tics, three belts, and a tag line.

I swear to God if WWE wasn't so watered down Roman would have been mocked with loud sexual moaning and a wanking gesture to insult his "loading up" motion years ago. And he'd have been relegated to Samoan Bradshaw circa 2001 being a midcard big dude who routinely loses and is moderately successful in the tag division. I literally just watched the triple threat match at Vengeance 2002 and Roman literally doesn't possess either the stamina or creativity to hang with any of Taker, Rock and Angle. Nevermind any of them in their physical prime OR two of either of them at the same time. It's pathetic what the champion's role has been reduced to. We went from Bret Hart to THIS asshole in 20 years

For as many problems as the John Cena era had it was only because he was so damn boring. Not because he couldn't work a 5 star match. Roman is all that and does nothing well

Got a few episodes of Raw and Smackdown in. A few thoughts

If HHH didn't kill HBK in the parking lot then I'm Vince McMahon

Mysterio is incredible

So THAT'S how Raw ended up with the original tag titles. Lance and Christian left for Raw

Lesnar hype rocket update: big guy realized that because he's from South Dakota, he's actually a reincarnated Tyrannosaurus complete with roaring sound effects put into his promotional videos. The corn fed dinosaur is preparing for landing on the moon. Arrival to the lunar surface is imminent. Mark Henry pronounced dead..

You hear that? That's also the sound of Jericho being relegated to the midcard. Why do I feel like he's just gonna face Booker and RVD every night for the next 3 years and that's gonna be Raw's midcard?

I'm gonna make a wild guess that Jamal and Rosey are members of the Anaoi/Miavia/Fatu dynasty. I'll check later to see if I'm right

Is Lance Storm seriously that dull in real life or is he casted that way? Dude should have been what Benoit was/is

Eddie. Baby. Your segment with the Rock might be the worst I've seen in ages. Your mic work needs work

Angle is God

Angle is God

Yup, they're Anao'i (Rosey) and Fatu (Jamal)

Jamal is Rikishi's younger brother (and nephew of the Wild Samoans). Rosey is Sika's son and older brother to Roman Reigns.

Also Jamal may look familiar to you... you know him better as Umaga.

That makes perfect sense. They're dressed in everyday attire and I haven't really gotten the best look at them. I just noticed their enormous size first and then how agile they are. I hate to stereotype but if you ever see men the size of buffalos with the grace and agility of birds in a WWE ring, it's gonna be a member of the Samoa dynasty 8/9 times out of 10. I'm excited to see what they're going to do because I don't really have any idea. Hopefully they just kill people lol. Umaga was fantastic even if the Samoan Spike was a little silly. It'll be awesome when he gets there. Also: I can deduce that my regular WWE fandom started the night of John Cena's debut. Of all the nights can you believe it? That's probably the official day Ruthless Aggression started. Little did teenage me know eh?

For where I left off: Bischoff was just dragged out of the building kicking and screaming for his life as Guerrero and Benoit (with the IC title in tow) walk down the aisle for a match against Edge and Rock. Gonna catch it as I get my laundry done. I somehow don't remember Stephanie and Bischoff's arms race and it's probably the best part of the shows. I'm curious how they're going to draw up Taker switching shows and how the IC title is gonna go back to Raw. RVD vs Benoit at SummerSlam with RVD going over makes too much sense. If there's some other way I'm gonna grab the popcorn

Continuing my 1998 WWF watch-thru just got up to Summer Slam

Considering how things turned out, can't say I am a fan of the drunk/impaired Hawk angle

As much grief as it got I actually enjoyed the Brawl for it All, especially seeing Bradshaw eat the canvas, it actually looked like he briefly twitched on the first knockdown against Bart in the final, probably was concussed

I appreciate D-Lo as the European champ billing himself from different European cities, Lisbon, Portugal, and now Helsinki, Finland at SS

Despite never really being a fan of Austin or the Undertaker, I am finding the angle with Stone Cold, Taker, Kane, Mankind, and Vince to be quite enjoyable

the DX and Nation feud has been a good undercard battle

The angle they did with Hawk just reeked of bad vibes considering his real life issues with drug abuse and what would later happen with Droz. I freaking loved D-Lo and his chest protector gimmick

About 2 weeks to SummerSlam 2002. A few thoughts

Rey Mysterio literally jumping out of the sky as his music says it as a lyric is not something I noticed when I was young. And now that I watch it, this is so thoughtfully choreographed. All of Smackdown is. They even have lighting chandeliers that imitate broken glass frying through the air. It's freaking genius

WWE going for that cheap heat ASAP by teaming HHH with the Un-Americans. Lmao

Putting Bischoff's mug in the opening sequence instead of the WWE logo is hilarious considering you've got like 63 titles that are giant WWE logos and there's one for every color of the rainbow. It's inconceivable that WWE ever passed a chance to flex it's giant logo 21 years ago

It's been 84 years since Raw didn't have RVD and Trish on in the same night

Lesnar hype rocket update: the dinosaur is dancing on the lunar surface because of his massive push. Confirmed first words are "Kert. I'm awn the moon and yer nawt Kert. Kert. Why donchu come up here lil buddy?"

Immediately upon hearing this Kurt got onto a headset and started screaming at Lesnar about how he has been on the moon "a hundred freaking times" and Lesnar immediately suplexes the nearest 129 ton monolith to assert dominance saying "I just destroyed the Rawk Kert. C'mon yew scared or sumethin?"

Angle has responded by suplexing Mysterio and kicking the ring ropes and is marching to Stephanie's office demanding to meet Brock

Heyman can be vaguely heard screaming about something while Brock deliberately ignores him and continues to suplex all geologic compounds until he's champion

About to hit the Raw before SummerSlam. A few more thoughts

You're not gonna get me to care about Jericho vs Flair. Jericho has had no direction since Mania X8 and is entering Big Show levels of "he needs something to do so we'll do this even if it makes no sense"

The Rock tapped for Benoit the week prior. I know Lesnar was standing right there but that is a huge favor for a guy's first day on a new show. I don't know. It (really) looks like everyone knows Rock is going out the door giving favors to whomever Vince thinks is worthy. He's a transition champion. A placeholder champion. God my curiosity is killing me as to what day it was decided Brock was getting the belt

Eddie and Chavo. God I love it. Smackdown was perfect for the luchador and cruiserweight contingent

Rey is a firecracker. What a stud

I remember liking Matt Hardy V1 as a heel when I was younger but I don't know if it was worth splitting the best tag team in WWE. Maybe the brothers just asked to go their own way because for as entertaining as Hardy was as V1 with Shannon Moore, it makes *NO* sense to split them up

Hurricane going to Raw isn't going to make a ton of sense either unless he's a regular in the IC title picture or is a regular tag team champion with multiple partners like Edge, Guerrero, Rikishi, Benoit and Mysterio

This show is perfection right now. And to think.... It's actually going to get better. Raw has felt like a chore in comparison. Not because it's bad. Smackdown is just that good. Meanwhile Raw has had to reinvent itself after investing so much time in programs that had to be suddenly abandoned. It's not necessarily their fault but unless Booker T and Golddust are compounding their shenanigans, I know exactly what I'm going to get. King howling "OMGPUPPIES!!" 8 times when Trish comes out and RVD copy and pasting his matches. I don't know why but I feel like his matches are exactly the same unless it's some kind of hardcore contest

On that note I am already thankful to God I don't have to hear King yell "Latino HEEEEEAAAAATTT" anymore. It was cool when he first showed up and was with Chyna and then it just got annoying.

Man did we go to Iraq or Afghanistan or some shit in July/August 2002 or what? Or was Vince just that hyped being a year removed from the events of September 11th? I'm not complaining but I seriously can't remember because Vince is just pushing the living hell out of this Un-American angle. Maybe the guy just needed easy heat for Taker's face turn

Vince has never been afraid of using conflicts to create heels (and faces). He did it with Iron Sheik when things were hot with Iran, turned Sgt Slaughter into an Iraq sympathizer during Desert Storm, not to mention the whole Muhammad Hassan debacle
