The philosophical thoughts.....

...of Ludvig Borga

Shame nothing more came of him(I believe he got injured to cut his career short) but he was one of my favs during his time there(although those were the leans years). I guess it was the anti America rants that made me laugh, I always loved the anti Americans

Poor Tatanka. I thing this guy destroyed his winning streak, didnt he? And Tatanka was brutally demolished.

Yokozuna ended Tatanka's winning streak, after Ludvig interfered. They then destroyed him and took him out of Survivor Series (replaced by Undertaker). Tatanka never regained his momentum. Although, to be fair, his momentum had been waning since he failed to capture the IC title at WM IX. He just didn't have much going for him in terms of storylines at that time. I really enjoyed Tatanka as a kid for his initial push.

I loved Tatanka's initial push when I was a kid too. I was pissed when he didn't win the IC title. They could've done more with him as a heel imo. He was a weird fit for the million dollar corporation.

This is from Wikipedia:
On the October 30, 1993 edition of Superstars (filmed September 28), Borga ended Tatanka's undefeated streak of nearly two years, dominating him throughout their match and ultimately knocking him out with a steel chair while the referee was distracted by Mr. Fuji at ringside. In a mockery of Luger's past "Narcissist" gimmick, Borga pinned Tatanka with one finger.

You're right, thanks for the correction. I had remembered two separate incidents as one.

I had no interest as soon as he turned heel. Especially because he turned heel on Luger and then didn't follow it up.

You were correct. Borga was the first to beat Tatanka. It's even acknowledged on WWE.com. Odd guy to use but Vince may have had bigger plans for Borga at first. Tatanka was really over at that time. Odd booking looking back in time. A bit of a stumble if you ask me. Not a fan of Tatanka's heel turn either.

Met him at an indy show many years ago. He was a nice dude.

I don't know if it has ever been confirmed but I remember hearing that Borga vs. Luger for the title was planned for WrestleMania X.
You are probably right. It's clear they had plans for Borga. I would like more back story about what happened behind the scenes with Luger. Either Vince grew bored with him or he did not draw as anticipated.

I've started deep into WWF 1999 just past Mania XV. The story telling is a hell of a lot better and far less erratic. You have a ton of random, crazy shit on a given night but the constant rejection and disintegration of members within the MOD (that shit scared me as a kid and I love it now -easily one of my most favorite groups) and the corporation at least makes sense. Shit blowing up with The Brood, Big Show, now Shamrock, HHH just had a horrible match alongside Test in ways that all echo chaos that happens in the real world and how fickle it really is. It beats matches ending for no reason and rules that make no sense. There's still some of that but it's not as bad.

Probably the best part is there are fewer wasted matches. If I had a dollar for every time I skipped a match with the AOD, Oddities and the LOD being treated like some sort of dysfunctional joke over the last 2 years of programming I've ingested, I'd have enough for a paid vacation.

Just finished the show where Rock tossed the Skull belt into a river in Detroit. Now THAT shit is entertainment. Wish we had more of it these days.

Side note: vaguely remember "The Union" as a kid and I think I can see how the pieces of a 4 man team of Shamrock, Test, Big Show and Mankind starting to come together. Gonna be cool seeing it again for the first time since it happened. Oh yeah and the Corporate Ministry

I have a hard drive somewhere that has every RAW from 1997 to the end of 2000 in original broadcasts. Hope the files are still ok.

Get your Attitude Era viewing in now. Peacock is going through and editing content.

FML.... King has me freaking dying over here with the one I'm on. Road Dogg makes a stipulation if he beats Owen Hart one-on-one, Debra's gotta show the puppies. King immediately cheers Road Dogg, says "I got treats in my pocket" and "101 dalmatians is my favorite movie" and whistles like a dog call after Road Dogg wins.

The only substitution I can do with was calling Kane "Big red (redacted "R" word)" of all the shenanigans I think that might've been the only thing really out of taste in the AE so far. The rest is just Jerry Springer in the ring

From Wikipedia:
On January 17, 1994, Halme injured his ankle in a match with Rick Steiner, forcing the WWF to cancel future plans for the Borga character that included a scheduled appearance at the 1994 Royal Rumble and a proposed WrestleMania match against Earthquake. Halme left the company soon after

Interesting but I don't think that refutes that there may have been a Luger vs. Borga plan at one point for WrestleMania 10.

Will there be an ATD this year? Can anyone name all 10 WCW tag teams in that video? Is Jim Duggan the most dignified ever?

The Union had a great theme song. They were only together for like a month but still got a theme.

I remember for maybe one show (or at least Foley called them this in one promo), they were called UP YOURS (Union of People You OUghta Respect Son/Shane)

I'm seeing all this for the first time since it happened in 1999 and I'm remembering now why I liked them so much as a kid. They were very well booked as a babyface quartet. Just mortal enough to be messed with at a believable extent without having to resort to anything ridiculous to "protect them." But they were "protected" by the fact had a solid blend of crazy and swagger that put them over like mixing 4 ingredients you'd have never thought to and you end up saying "Damn that's actually pretty good." The fact they'd come out together, watch each other's backs during matches and get them some in key moments was great too. You don't really see stuff like that anymore

Unrelated note: I really wish Test had a better name and entrance music. Nothing about the name or music makes him identifiable to anyone and you can hear the crickets every time he comes out. Especially in an era where "sudden loud noises" were a big deal in entrance music save for The Rock.

And I just finished "Raw Is Owen"

I know Bret hated it because of DX antics but that might've been the best show I've ever seen. I think it might have something to do with how "real" it was or that it was a break from the usual high-speed shenanigans. But either way it moves to me to tears. What a tribute.

And maybe someone can help me but I have heard so many times Owen was gonna be "The Game" and not Haitch and the latter disputes it was a ever a gimmick intended for anyone. All I can say is the gimmick of the guy who will do anything at any given time to win no matter what, no matter how dirty, resorting to the most disgusting things you've ever seen would have been perfect for Owen. After watching the bulk of 1997 and all of 1998 it would have been a natural and believable evolution for his character.

He was the most "natural heel" I think I have ever seen. Any of the stuff Haitch did would've been up Owen's ally. Yes I know, "Blue Blazer" and going "woooo!" but people would've easily forgotten it. The guy never had the WWF championship and him holding onto it at all costs like Haitch used to do is all the more reason I buy into the idea of Owen eventually turning into that kind of person because he already used to do that stuff at a "lower level" anyway

I have heard over the years that Owen was supposed to be called "The Game" but he was never supposed to get the push HHH got in mid 1999.
