Btw I have a question, is this series still popular in Canada? Or is there a chance, it will be canseled soon, because of lack of interst from the public?

this will be my 4th time going and to my knowledge it still gets a good crowd - as recently as 3 years ago it was selling out.

Even if not, HC likes to use this to scout for wjc camp so I think it'll stick around

I've wanted this series scrapped for the past decade. My only interest in varies year to year from little to I'll watch a game or two depending on whether or not there are 1 or more Canadian prospects I'm following. This year it happens to be Lafreniere and Byfield. My guess is as long as Hockey Canada can sucker in one of their corporate partners in attaching their name to it, it will continue.

No. The poster is referring to Mathias Laferriere, the St. Louis pick.
Thanks. All the best to the other two La-guys. It sure would have been confusing to have them all on the team. But it would have a very quebecoise feel though:)

I spoke too soon. It now seems as though Lafreniere is also injured and could miss both games.

Love this series, hopefully Lafreniere is in the lineup tonight.

It’s fairly popular here in Western Canada.

He's officially out for the two games. I was looking forward to seeing him as well, but for the purposes of team building he really isn't necessary.

Lafrenière to miss CIBC Canada Russia Series with an injury – CIBC Canada/Russia Series

Too bad.

Yeah, you’re right he doesn’t really need a look as he’s a lock for the roster and potentially the captain of the team come Christmas time.

It sucks that Lapierre is out but I don’t think he was making the final roster anyways.

Byfield and maybe Drysdale are the only underage players I can see making the team this year. Even then, neither of them are guaranteed a spot. I definitely think we should be bringing Byfield.

I may be way off, but I think that Byfield has a pretty decent chance. Drysdale would surprise me, but Canada's defence group is weaker among right handed defencemen so who knows.

I think we’d be crazy to leave Byfield off. A guy with his size/speed/skill is hard to not have on your roster.

Drysdale I give an outside shot to because of his elite skating ability and puck handling ability. Not a lot of chatter about him being on the roster but I think he has an outside chance.

Translation?

I’m assuming it’s because he plays in the NCAA.
There is not written a reason for declining Ishakov´s participation.

the translation
Nikita Alexandrov, Dmitri Zavgorodny, Alexander Khovanov, Egor Sokolov will participate in the first match against Q of the CIBC Series.

The CHL also informed the FHR (Russian Hockey Feds) that refused Ruslan Ishakov´s participation in the matches of the series.

Should be a good game. Looking forward to watching Podkolzin on Russia. Lafreniere being out for the two games will allow other players to step up and show hockey Canada what they got. QMJHL wins 6-4
