http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/a...e-on-a-1-million-salary-not-as-much-you-think

Here's an article. If you made a $1 million dollar salary, you'd be left with about $240k after food, clothing, housing expenses, car and entertainment has been paid for. After. That is still a big chunk of money.

And let's not forget that in addition, the players get a good portion of money in escrow back unless the league revenues tank.

 Most of my working life there was $0.00 left after those things. Most of the time the entertainment part of the budget was pretty small. Some of the time it was $0.00 and food and clothing were less than covered as well. Most normal people struggle from payday to payday for much of their lives, if not all.

That means that all of that $240k is available to invest for retirement. It doesn't take that amount very many times to build up a nest-egg sufficient to provide an income for life. And don't forget that the players have a pretty decent pension plan too.

Happy Birthday to Chris.

While his time appears to have come to,an end with the Jets in an on-ice capacity (and probably in the NHL)', I do appreciate what he did bring to the Jets. He always stood up for his teammates and took a pounding as a result. The NHL is changing and players with the skills Chris has to offer are disappearing.

If Chris can play a couple more seasons in Europe all the power to him, would be nice if TNSE could bring Chris back in some off ice capacity but definitely not coaching.

The big question is, who takes on his role as "last guy off butt slapper"? That's a key responsibility on any team, probably more important than captain. Obviously, it can't be a goalie. Slapping 9 out of 10 butts on a typical night just won't cut it. Slap strength is also important. You don't want the meek and the mild giving you a little half-hearted tap, but you also don't want a beast like Buff or Lowry making your ass go numb so you walk off funny with watery eyes. Can't be a Finn. It's just not in their nature. Probably don't want to saddle the injury-prone with this. I can see rotator cuff issues arising from repetitive strain.

There are a few good choices but I would go with Andrew Copp. All-American good looks, frat boy enthusiasm and he's got that QB experience so good arm strength and accuracy. You know he's going to nail that butt cheek every time. ;)

I wasn't sure I wanted to look at this thread. This post made it worthwhile. :handclap::handclap:

Thanks to Chris for bringing toughness to the team

See him always supporting teammates on the bench

And never a loser in the team skills challenge events

Good luck in Las Vegas

Isn't he a UFA? Who knows if he even signs there but maybe he said he wanted to sign there so they chose him.

You didn't score often... but when you did, you were SCOREburn.

Thorburn's last act was to throw himself on the expansion grenade ;)

Sniper takes a bullet for the Jets (not really).

Not the biggest fan of how the draft picks played out but had to say I was Ric Flair "woooooiiiiiinnnnggg" when I heard Thorburn's name.

They take a player I prayed we would not resign?
That made me pretty happy.

He's a UFA. He can sign with the Jets in 10 days.

This thread is premature.

Well, it looks like Chris Thorburn's time with the Jets has officially come to an end. :shakehead

Hopefully he continues to kick absolute ass down south in Vegas.
