Neil won't help at all. If he tries to make a big hit, someone will go down and feign an injury and the Sens will have to kill off a major penalty.

The Sens need to play the game they've been playing for the last few months and forget about how despicable the Habs are being. If they get bogged down in the Montreal Typical BS they're going to lose this series in a hurry.

Agreed.

Being the "big bad" Bruins is what kills Boston against the Habs every playoffs. The Habs are the best divers and embellishers in the entire league. They will feast against obvious goonery.

If we want to hurt these guys, we have to be way more subtle about it. Good solid checks along the boards and physical play around the net. Wear the smurfs down.

Besides, Neil is well past his prime. If things get physical, it's time for Boro and Gryba to show what they can do.

I'm not sure I agree. The Habs have to know that if they're going to run around giving cheap shots all game there's a price to pay. At the very least i think we need to split the Wiercioch - Ceci pairing. Wiercioch - Gryba. Boro - Ceci.

We play a hated divisional opponent in a first round series, and they set the tone in game 1 with some cheap shots and put on the tough guy act and get away with it, while some of our toughest most physical players with playoffs experience are healthy scratches. Shocking, eh? Oh, but we don't need Neil, we've gone on a huge winning streak without him, he's useless, bla bla bla... :shakehead

Right. Playoff hockey is a different game, how many times does this need to be said? What an embarrassment to get pushed around by the ****ing smurfs, that goof Gilbert going after our injured Calder-nominee-to-be, acting like a tough guy with that ****ing fishbowl on his face at the end of the game. Sad. If the Sens lay down and let the Habs push them around and get away with cheapshots, they're finished. It's playoff time, Neil is our most physical player, has boatloads of experience and always thrives in the playoffs. He better be in the starting line up next game. Enough of this ****. This forward group is very soft without at least one of Smith or Neil in there, I've been calling it for weeks now and got scoffed at. We got away with it during the late season run, but it's a different game now in the playoffs. Sens need push back tomorrow night, or they're in trouble.

Are you suggesting Smith for Legwand, Neil for Hoffman, and Cowen for Weircoich?

While I don't believe it is the right response to last night's game, it might be fun to watch!!!

Agree with this 90%. (except the habs are no longer smurfs/soft)

I guess many of the sens fans were either too young or a twinkle in their dads eye when the Leafs ran us 15 years ago.

Neil is essential in this series if we want a chance at winning it.

Love Neil as a Senator, but he's cold out of NHL experience. Boro, Wier, Gryba have more than filled the void. Phillips and Neil aren't even a thought watching the team play, they skated circles around MTL for the 1H. Adding a slow player like Neil does nothing, what's he supposed to do? Run every Hab in sight? We have Smith on the backburners

I really cant believe how much dirty crap the smurfs got away with last night. For a team that is so soft and dives so much during the season I am at a loss for words at what they did.

I agree with you goon on what needs to be done, problem is you know the nhl will have the zebras on full alert tomorrow to prevent more bs. Niel needs to be in, and he needs to hurt somebody, bad. I mean like a stick swing to the side of the face or something. A fight or big hit will not change anything here unfortunately.

Neil is just too slow to get the job done any more. If we had Neil from 2008 or so, then ok....but not 2015 Neil.

Smith looked odd during his few games back from injury. I don't know what they did to heal up his dislocated wrist, but he was handling the puck like his wrist was fused with a steel rod.
On top of that, he kept up his play from earlier in the season where his physicality was non-existent.

I'm really not sure if Neil is the answer here, but if he can lay just one big hit to alter the momentum of the game, that is all we need. It's not like Chiasson will do anything to swing the momentum in the Sens favour.

Plus, Neil brings a sense of intimidation, which could lead to the Sens being able to dictate the way they want the game played.

And really, if all Neil does is beat Mitchell, Flynn or Prust into a pulp and ruin the mojo of that 4th line, then mission accomplished.

After listening to the BM interview there is no doubt Neiler's in next game.

Should have been game 1. Mistake by rookie coach Cameron.

Once again, the second Neil comes within 10 feet of a Hab they will dive and it'll be 5 and a game. Totally stupid to bring him in here.

Playoff Neil is a different animal. He's not dumb either, never been suspended in his career. I wouldn't equate inserting Neil in the lineup to Boston gooning it up and falling into Montreal's trap. Neil will be effective IMO, playoffs are when you notice the value in guys like Neil, not the regular season.

PS. Neil is trending on twitter, crazy. :P

Please put neil in. We're just gonna skate circles around him. That physicality BS really worked for the bruins against the Habs. Refs are going to watch your team closely after what your rookie coach said yesterday :)

and refs will watch yours now that our GM called the supervisor to let him know about the threats PK had against our team 2 weeks ago and again last night :)

edit: and watch Subban get more fines for diving. He's the most documented diver in the NHL this season. :)

Chris Neil is likely close to retirement anyways. What if he waits until the last minute of this game or his final game against the Habs and gets retribution. I'm not condoning this, but the NHL has made a huge mistake by not suspending Subban. His intent was obvious and Stone could miss the series and the playoffs because of this deliberate slash to the wrist of one of Ottawa's best goal scorers.

I'd hate to make a decision under duress. I would have been fine Neil started game 1 instead of Chiasson but now that ship has sailed and we can't make a decision simply based on what happened in Game 1. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong but this is clearly a sign of being scared of whatever. I guarantee you we can physically dominate and win without Neiler in game 2.

doesnt matter, a baseball swing is only a 5 and a game

thats the most the refs can do, and if the nhl tries suspended him it would be the biggest joke ever and the nhl knows that

It's a bit rich that people are calling for Neil to have been inserted in the line up for Game 1

I think everyone (or almost everyone) was fine with icing the lineup that got us to the playoffs for Game 1

I had serious reservations about Weirioch but he had earned the chance to prove himself

From a Rangers fan who sees all sides of the game, Neil needs to play for you guys. You need one of those guys in your line up to ensure liberties aren't taken.

Also, the GM back and forth BS about what Soupcan said on the ice and how many threats there were, that stuff stays on the ice man. You don't bring that stuff up to the media, the GM looks like a baby. Settle the war on the ice and let the outcome and actions on the rink speak for themselves.
