I do hope if one or both are fired it’s part of a larger overhaul one with more emphasis on drafting and development.
The fact they moved on from Hepple and (seemingly pretty quickly) moved on from Klippenstein seems to indicate they know they need to get the drafting fixed and are at least trying to get that radically improved. The last draft also appears to be a sign that they finally think it might be a good idea to try and draft and develop an actual starting goalie. My big complaint about this is...why the f*** did it take them so long!?!?!?I do hope if one or both are fired it’s part of a larger overhaul one with more emphasis on drafting and development.
I can't see CMac getting the ax yet. GMs are traditionally given at least two HCs before they are also given the axe. I love Bednar and I love our core. Always have and always will. But I do believe you have to constantly evolve and change to win in sports. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to shake things up after what 8 years? That's pretty incredible they've kept the band together this long.I think he will get fired (and probably Bednar too) if the season doesn't take a huge turn.
I haven't hated him as a GM thus far, haven't loved him either.
Avs don't operate like most NHL franchises. If they fall well short of expectations, no way does MacFarland survive. He'll be another Francois Giguere.I can't see CMac getting the ax yet. Definitely the anti-Bednar in that category.Snatching that 4 after a great TDL and demoting back down to a 2. Not addressing the goaltending despite multiple considerable upgrades being on the market is damning.
And the hair.
He reminds me so much of Danny Briere:Good God this is either a really old photo or the job has aged him exponentially.
In hindsight, not even trying to go for it in a title defense year (mostly because they up and decided not to get a replacement for Kadri) is IMO inexcusable. Re-upping Josh Manson was and always will be a huge, huge mistake.
Last year, I can't really fault him for his deadline moves.
Ultimately his gambit on goaltending has been far and away his biggest failure. I can't, even in hindsight, blame him all that much. I really thought Georgiev would be...adequate. But he clearly hasn't been, and their absurdly slow approach to finally reach that conclusion may be the very thing that slams this window shut. There's something to be said about how lazy and cheap they've been about developing a goddamn goalie, but that precedes MacFarland by quite a bit.
All that said, I don't think he's the worst GM in the NHL. Not even close.
