I do hope if one or both are fired it’s part of a larger overhaul one with more emphasis on drafting and development.
The fact they moved on from Hepple and (seemingly pretty quickly) moved on from Klippenstein seems to indicate they know they need to get the drafting fixed and are at least trying to get that radically improved. The last draft also appears to be a sign that they finally think it might be a good idea to try and draft and develop an actual starting goalie. My big complaint about this is...why the f*** did it take them so long!?!?!?

I think he will get fired (and probably Bednar too) if the season doesn't take a huge turn.

I haven't hated him as a GM thus far, haven't loved him either.
I can't see CMac getting the ax yet. GMs are traditionally given at least two HCs before they are also given the axe. I love Bednar and I love our core. Always have and always will. But I do believe you have to constantly evolve and change to win in sports. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to shake things up after what 8 years? That's pretty incredible they've kept the band together this long.

Avs don't operate like most NHL franchises. If they fall well short of expectations, no way does MacFarland survive. He'll be another Francois Giguere.

But I agree, I've maintained that I believe the Avs culture to be more than a little staid and that has a lot to do with the legacy of one Pierre Lacroix. A shakeup would not be the worst thing.

Good God this is either a really old photo or the job has aged him exponentially.

Well since this got bumped up, I might as well update my thoughts.

Still keeping the rating at 3.
Mittelstadt turned out to be a great trade, but the goalie situation is a big minus.
Managing to keep Drouin shows that the player has respect for the GM, so a small plus for that.

In hindsight, not even trying to go for it in a title defense year (mostly because they up and decided not to get a replacement for Kadri) is IMO inexcusable. Re-upping Josh Manson was and always will be a huge, huge mistake.

Last year, I can't really fault him for his deadline moves.

Ultimately his gambit on goaltending has been far and away his biggest failure. I can't, even in hindsight, blame him all that much. I really thought Georgiev would be...adequate. But he clearly hasn't been, and their absurdly slow approach to finally reach that conclusion may be the very thing that slams this window shut. There's something to be said about how lazy and cheap they've been about developing a goddamn goalie, but that precedes MacFarland by quite a bit.

All that said, I don't think he's the worst GM in the NHL. Not even close.

Does it give you solace that instead of being THE worst GM in the league, he's just one of the worst? I'm sure that distinction will make a big difference once the Avs flame out in the 1st/2nd round again, while employing 3 of the top 15 players in the league.

Season is dangerously close to being flushed down the toilet after that 8-2 drubbing tonight. Growing really frustrated with mgmt, at this point take some real risk commit to this core and get a real keeper please! else CMac, Salic and Bernard likely gone after this season- hold that forgot about the absentee owners never mind…..

Only a fool would have gone into the season with the Avs goaltending and claimed they are contending. Looks like another season flushed down the toilet by a bad GM. What's frustrating is that they have the necessary pieces to do much more minus the goaltending but management refuses to fix the problem.

All depends on how he recovers. He gets us a good goalie before the deadline and I think all will be forgiven. We go past the deadline with this tandem and we may not make the playoffs. If we miss the playoffs without even owning our own first... I don't wanna think about it, anymore.

I doubt they miss the playoffs unless our top players get injured.

Yeah the goalie situation is still fixable, but this time of the year the options are very limited. The offseason is where you get your starter and CMac said f*** that Georgiev will lead us to the promised land.

He's probably trying to get Drury to trade him Shesty for Georgiev/Mikko as we speak.

The problem is even if he gets the goalie by the deadline, the top guys will have been run into the ground while trying to keep the team afloat. It’s actually unbelievable how incompetent CMac is.
