I want him on the Canes. I think GM Drury should make a call for his nephew, Jack +. I know he likely doesn't get traded within the division, but I feel like he could help the Canes with the net front troubles.

As a Rangers fan, he is still productive in the playoffs. If I was the GM, he'd be the last vets I'd move. Mika, Miller, Lindgren are more of a concern for me and sadly Mika has to get his ice time cut severely for him to waive

Anyone paying any assets for Kreider right now would be a moron. The dude has 3 5v5 points in 31 games this year. I'm not saying he's definitely "washed" but you'd be a fool to trade value for him now until he shows it's just a cold spell.

Chris Kunitz was a very similar player stylistically and fell off pretty hard at that same age, going from a 35 goal, 70 point guy to barely a 40 point guy in a single off-season. It's not unheard of for a guy of Kreider's age and skillset to just fall off really fast.

. . . 6.5m for a 30 goal scorer with the cap going up isn’t a bad investment. You won’t get the type of production he’s had over the past 3 years cheaper.
Actually, I doubt that you would get the type of production he's had over the past three years at all.

At least, not from Kreider.

There are probably better uses for $6.5- million, even with a rising salary cap.

I’m not sure how you’d rather have Greig but you’re entitled to your opinion.

Greig is 22 and hasn’t really shown he’s much more than a bottom6er at this point and I’m not sure with you’d be convinced otherwise.

Kreider is having a bad year along with the rest of his team but is coming off of a 76 point season and still pacing near 30 g this season.

I would NOT pay POSITIVE value for Chris Kreider, it is as simple as that. Would anyone pay positive value for Steven Stamkos right now? No, and he is an HOFer.

Greig hasn't shown that he is more than a bottom-6 forward because that's what he is, but he can be of extremely good quality. A high-end 2-way forward with a complete game on the 3rd line is exactly what I want from him, those are cheap and provide secondary scoring at ES while shutting down the opposition, extremely valuable.

Even if Kreider ends up with 30 goals and 15 assits, I don't want him 2 more years at 6.5 AAV.

Youth is great and all but relying too heavily on it gets you in long term playoff droughts.

I'm not sure if it's directed at Ottawa's rebuild but you have to be aware of many other things before thinking it's a big reason as to why Ottawa has missed the playoffs for years.

- Melnyk decided to go 100% rebuild in 2018, every single player from the 2017 playoffs run (ECF game 7 double OT against the Champs) was traded/gone within 2 seasons. Earth scorching rebuilds are supposed to take time.

- Melnyk wanted a cheap YES MAN, Pierre Dorion was that guy but he had no business being a NHL GM.

- Melnyk passed away in 2022, team was finally sold in September 2023, nothing could be done before this, then they finally fired the DJ Dorion from my avatar, which was clearly holding this team back as they had no business being there. All they did was DAMAGING the team.

Not bringing good quality vets was one of my first complaints about Dorion after the firesale period. Now, they have Giroux, Ullmark, Jensen, etc and brought Perron for that who unfortunately has not been able to contribute this season

He’s dogging it. Doesn’t want to be traded so he’s actively tanking his own value .

Giroux is 36 and didn't score 30+ goals last season, so no. If you want to go back to when Giroux was being traded, yes, quite easily. But Giroux isn't saving this team right now.

uh... what does it have to do with the number of goals they have scored last year? Kreider has more career goals than assists, Giroux has twice the number of assists than goals, maybe one is an all-around 2-way playmaking forward and the other one is a front net presence goal scoring forward? And Giroux scored 35 not even 2 years ago.

But that has nothing to do with the point anyway. Another thing that has nothing to do with the point is the "Giroux isn't saving this team right now" comment. Another poster losing the plot faster than one could tie his shoes.

By saying NO, you are exactly proving my point. No one would want to give up VALUE if Giroux had 2 years left at 6.5 AAV, which is why no one SHOULD want to give value for Kreider with the term and AAV he has left.

Giroux probably would command such a price, particularly at the deadline.

Yeah, Giroux could bring back a good return at the deadline BECAUSE he doesn't have term left, big difference with Kreider

If Kreider was UFA at the end of the season, he would be one of the biggest targets right now.

Not exactly sure how a guy having a clear aberration of a season and regressing to his norm is in any way comparable.
