Player Discussion Chris Kreider

I don't see anything in bold in your reply . I tend to agree on some of what you pointed out......maybe not to the extent though on the toughness factor . But it is OK to disagree.

Sorry these were the two parts that seemed like a reach to me.

Assistant coach told the scout he basically did not go behind the net, along the boards or in front of the net

Word got around the league and players threaten to run him most games and he vanishes.

Like I said ...the truth lies somewhere in the middle . Myself....I always saw him as timid and always reluctant to get involved or be proactive in the physical part of the game like many guys with his size do for their clubs . When was the last time we saw him drag an opposing defender off the ice with him because of a physical exchange in front of the net or behind the net or in the corners....he does not get involved like that and we all know if you can take off a top dman in an exchange....you DO it !!! That is a win for your team.

kreider scored 1:10 into game 1 and was parked in front of the net on the PP the whole series. showed no reluctance to be there at all. that guy is full of it.

Over the years I noticed he started wrapping dmen up in a hug while hitting them on the end boards to stop them from falling and him getting a penalty. He actually was one of the teams leading hitters until the last 2 years.

This season he was extremely timid and soft but I assume that was injury related.

Edit: Would not be the first guy that played softer after he hit 30. I got softer as well :D

Hey guys....here is what I was sent [ word for word ] which supposedly was told to a Quebec League Major Junior scout by a former long time NHL assistant coach ......so believe what you want . I don't buy it all....but there likely is some truth in the middle somewhere and I am SURE Kreider was always an enigma to the coaching staff as well as to us fans . His game has changed but I am not so sure it can be pinpointed to one series being the root cause of it . On ice threats have long been a part of the game for many players....this could not have been a first for Kreider . Anyways.....

" He said Mike told him that the team they coached had no leadership. They have nothing against Trouba , other than the money he made , they believed they could replace him cheaper.

This was the year Kreider had 40 goals, they were playing Tampa, and were asked the question about how to stop him. Tampa said he got his goals in front of the net right, the reporter said yes, they responded we will take his hands away. Kreider went to Turk and was complaining that they had said that and he didn't feel comfortable playing against Tampa. Assistant coach told the scout he basically did not go behind the net, along the boards or in front of the net and still plays that way today. Word got around the league and players threaten to run him most games and he vanishes.

Panarin is a Russian, only cares about goals and money .

Zibanejad and Kreider keep to themselves, did what was asked at team functions but no more and didn't interact or lead with the young group of players , they were very disappointed in those 3 forwards.

The owner took Turk and Mike out to supper before the playoffs started and wanted an honest answer from them on what to expect, Turk told him it wouldn't be good, asked why - They are a f__king bunch of pu**y that will not play as a team."

Interesting stuff RE: Kreider. He has played much more timid as far as physical play goes since hes entered his 30s. Hasnt fought anyone since 2021, not that thats end all be all or anything. (side note: his last 4 fights in the league have all been against Devils, he must really dislike them lol). He goes to the front of the net to score his goals, but pretty much only on the PP. His ES goals are largely off the rush.

The relationship between him and Mika has always been bizarre. They've played nothing but a 2 man game since Buchnevich was traded. Its hurt the team overall. Their bromance hasnt been great for morale imo, especially as their overall play together has dipped in the last few years.

Doing the math, 40 goal year is actually his 52 goal career. +Gallant +TBL = 2022 Conference Finals. We lost 4-2 by the scores of 6-2 (W), 3-2 (W), and then four straight losses of 3-2, 4-1, 3-1, 2-1 so I'm assuming this "take his hands away" convo is happening between games 2 and 3. This can probably be corroborated by watching old playoffs footage. If that was their game plan, you'd expect to see slashing or some other tying up of the stick ("take his hands away" does not have to equal violently). You might see CK avoiding areas. I don't know. But "word got around the league" is dubious. Or there is a big timeline game as CK had two more 30+ goal seasons after that. I don't think any of us would accuse CK of disappearing before this season. Something is off there.

Panarin comment. Maybe true but also kinda racist. Over-generalization bias at best. Makes me question the speaker's intelligence.
Who is Mike here? Owner = Dolan? or is this like the restaurant owner?

Mika is off DJing. They expect him to lead the team off ice? They should have put that in his contract. His best two years were under Gallant. The team collectively disappeared in those last 4 games vs. Tampa. Cooper adjusted the game plan and Gallant never counter punched.

Without filling in the holes, I would treat this report as fan fiction.

Kreider definitely goes to the front of the net, but his willingness to muck it up in the corners leaves a lot to be desired.

He also does the Alexei Kovalev “Fly-by”, as opposed to skating directly towards the puck carrier and hitting him, better than Kovy did himself. If any of the highly skilled Rangers player like Callahan, they would have won at least one Cup in recent years. That’s what makes Crosby a special player. He’s a 1st line talent with a 4th liner’s work ethic and willingness to grind it out.

But "word got around the league" is dubious.
It's completely reasonable to say this is an overstatement by a legit source, not by Leetch99 relaying it. It could even truly come from Turk poppin off and straight up saying "I fkn can't with these fkn guys..." We can all picture that, at least!

Any of those arguably bad takes could come from real people.

For sure.

Most of the Good Old Boys in the league would say something like that anyway. So would some Russians, funny enough!

I'm guessing Mike Kelly?
Mika is off DJing.
Such a lazy ad hom. There are enough things to criticize with him, criticizing some dumb hobby just weakens your argument.

Shit season. Forget "Passenger," he looked like a "Hostage."
Cooper adjusted the game plan and Gallant never counter punched.
100%

It's presented as "I don't believe it all, but there's some truth in there." So why not treat it that way?

The dubious part is the timeline of "word got around the league" then two 30+ goal seasons. There are holes here that makes this statement unreliable.

Characterizing my ad hominem as lazy is an ad hom in itself as arguments cannot be lazy. Only the people who deliver them. The fact that you ignore the actual comment makes it even more hypocritical. It's also a joke. The only thing that DJing potentially does to affect Mika's game is a weaker offseason training schedule. Unless he's up at 1am making mixtapes before a gameday instead of getting a good night of sleep but that's a hole we don't have any info on so speculating causality is also fan fic.

Leetch99 says "so believe what you want" so maybe mind your own business and don't tell me what I should believe. If you have hockey related stuff to discuss, that's fine to bring up but you don't need to @ me for you pointless post that either agrees with me or is just out to shit post.

You stated what you believe and I stated what I believe. It's a message board.

Mind your own business, don't tell me what to do or believe, pointless shit post? Holy smokes!

Was I mean or something? Cheez Whiz.
