Kreider should be able to get top 6 minutes now that Gaborik is gone. Hypothetically... although with this coach logic seems to be thrown straight down the toilet.

There's the coup to the deal, we got two Brassards for Gaborik.
 
Started talking about CK in a thread... Why didn't he get much ice time last night?? Also, do we think he's gonna go back down soon once Boyle/Dorsett come in?
 
Anyone think it's possible that they told Kreider that he's very much playing a 4th line role, and to work on decision making, defensive play, board work, and not to feel any pressure offensively? Considering that those are some of his weak spots, I'd like to see him work on those a bit extra.

Good point, he's been playing in all situations down in Hartford, Torts told management "you wann send this kid who's not ready to my team when we are in our last 6 games? Fine, ill put him on the 4th line to see how responsible he is away from the puck" it almost feels to me like Torts is trying to prove a point with upper management in saying, if this kid was ready, I'd ask for him back myself". Lets see what happens, hopefully Kreider grabs the bull by the horns.

That's what they did to our top prospect Anisimov in 2009 after coming off of full PPG season in the AHL, big size and tons of skill. Very similar description to Kreider. They played him with goons like Shelly. He has forever been scarred.

And that's what you have to worry about. When those sort of players play with the goons or bruisers you got to worry about skill/motivation/decision making dwindling.

You should know Torts by now, they'll have to fire him before he lets a rookie play top 6. And I wouldn't play Brassard 8 mins a game on the 4th, thats a waste of skill and talent.

Kreider will be on the bus back to Hartford as soon as Boyle returns. And when Dorsett is ready it will be even tougher for the rookies to find a spot in Torts lineup.

More likely, the team lacks depth and is desperately trying to see who can fill in. Segal, Newbury, Ferriero, Mash, Miller, Kreider, Thomas and Haley all got called up. Hrivik would've been but for injury.

They tried recalling 3 full lines of AHL forwards, and could not get anything out of them. The problem isn't Torts, it's depth.

We have very different memories of that time. AA played with Shelley and Prust for a short time and was extremely effective.

How has he been scarred? I don't think he's capable of much more than he's done.

AA played his best hockey with Prust and Shelley that season. BY FAR his best hockey, too. Really inarguable. Hilarious.

What? That line was fantastic, and Anisimov mentioned that he liked playing with Shelley and Prust, he felt 'safer' on that line.

You're literally making things up. Unless you're being sarcastic.

lets be honest we all know hes going to most likely be a non factor getting 8 minutes on the 4th line. kreider is an offensive player, his first priority should be to get his offense going.

I don't think it's a good idea to play your top NHL prospect, one who has dominated the AHL with Shelly and Prust. I don't think he was put in a position to succeed. He became more defensively responsible, but his offensive game took a hit.

He succeeded and excelled there. He said himself that it helped his game.

You are objectively wrong. The reason why his 'offense took a hit' in his transition from AHL to NHL is that Anisimov doesn't really have the tools to be anything more than a 50-60 point player, if that. He's an average skater, not a very good playmaker, and he has a slow release. I'm a fan of him, but really, he's nothing all too special. A solid 2nd/3rd liner.

Developing prospects isn't as easy as running them through a pre-determined process - everyone is different. Clearly AA was put in a position to succeed, because he succeeded. He's a valuable piece on an NHL team. I really don't think he was every going to be a 1C or a 70, 80 point NHL player regardless of how he was developed. Also, did he come right up and play Shelley and Prust? I could have sworn he was put there after a few games because he was struggling.

Kreider is gonna be a good player. Hopefully next year in a full season Torts give sthe kid more freedom and better linemates
 
Question from the outside re: Kreider

I see the thread about him below, and I read through it... unfortunately for me, it didn't necessarily delve deep into the things that I wonder about him at the moment... I'm curious about him this year, on the whole, and then looking forward:

- biggest problem with him this year? or, in better form, what has been the biggest hindrance on him taking that next step towards becoming an effective, top-6 regular that seemed imminent this time last year?

- I've certainly seen varying opinions of the relationship he has (or lacks) with Torts... understanding that Tortorella holds players to a certain standard, has any part of his 'sheltering' (for lack of a better term) been unjust/unfair/unwarranted?

- he's so young, very raw, oozes potential...has a rare combo of size, good speed, hands/puck skills, and a good shot... is this a hiccup/bump in the road that comes with development as a prospect (particularly that of the NCAA prospect ilk), or are you worried that he might not live up to lofty expectations in the form of being a top-6 certainty?

- what do you think about him regarding the intelligence aspect of the game? Safe to call him a moderately smart forward? Worse than that? Better than that? How's his knowledge of the game and the forward position?

Unfortunately, the shortened season and condensed schedule hasn't allowed me the normal routine I've had every year I can remember watching hockey to keep my finger on the proverbial pulse of the Blueshirts as my "default second team" being in the suburbs. I ask out of sheer curiosity and lack of ability to dissect as I would in a normal season.

Thanks in advance, all, and I'll be pulling for you come May.
