He was BSing last year, too. In his radio interviews, he would constantly say were aren't there yet. Really? When will be finally be there? When our core players are on the wrong side of 30? He's been playing it safe saying all the right things so he can keep his job longer. His priority is to keep his job. He's making this team play safe because he knows he if experiments too much and they fail, then he is out on his ass.

No, he wasn't BSing... the team wasn't there yet. Do you forget how difficult it was for this team to generate offense last season? They're struggling to do it this season too, but there are different faces in the locker room and no benefit of training camp. They're still not a group of finishers, but when Nash was out of the lineup the previous 4 games the offense was impotent.

I highly doubt that Tortorella has ulterior motives to save his rear-end by making comments implying that the team is close, but not quite there yet. #1. He's right and #2. He's not enough of an "evil genius" to convince Sather of such a thing. Sather got rid of his other hand-picked failure coaches, what makes you think he's going to brainwash management? If he's failing to move this team forward, he's as good as gone.

I don't agree with everything Tortorella does from a coaching standpoint (the power play has gotten worse, instead of better since he's been here), but his priority is not keeping his job: it's winning another Stanley Cup. If you don't believe that, then there is no hope discussing this with you.

Until this year every1 agreed with that assessment that we weren't ready and we significantly overachieved beyond what most people reasonably expected last season.

This season hopes were higher though it's also a topsy turvy year if the team is like this next year there are no excuses but this year there are many. Beyond the excuses though the overachieving and solid track record of developing prospects forces me to sit patient. Besides it's very common for prospects to get tastes, go back to the AHL or CHL and eventually come back up. Out of all of our recent guys I think only Stepan avoided the AHL altogether. MDZ, McD, Staal, Girardi, Cally, Hagelin, all had to go.

I think our fanbase is incredibly spoiled and entitled in general. When you consider how little the Rangers actually succeed it makes it even more amusing how we demand perfection. (Looks to hockey gods) eff us right?

the best way for a head coach to keep his job is to win. This (surprisingly enough) is beneficial to the Rangers. So it's a good thing the head coach doesn't want unemployment

Not gonna make any early judgement, but that is one thing I thought was a tad bizarre, Kreider didn't get much PP time. Not saying he would've instantly fixed it, but he could've maybe helped it at least.

My problem with Torts is that he lets JT Miller play through mistakes and belive me Miller makes a lot of them. he needs to treat kreider the same way

I see it as a message to Kreider that they expect more from him.

I'm fine with that, he should be further along than a JT Miller at this point.

I don't think the team is playing quite well enough to have two of the top nine forwards making a lot of rookie mistakes, however justifiable they may be.

Between Kreider and Miller, Kreider seems like the kind of player who will benefit from some time in the AHL. He'll come back up with a confidence that he's missing now and be a valuable piece of the team. Miller, in my opinion, seems more confident and less tentative than Kreider and will probably benefit from more NHL minutes that will allow him to work through his mistakes and get used to the pace. If all goes according to plan, I think they're both going to be better, more confident players by the end of this season.

I have no problem going to the AHL. I mean he has already played well in his first game back and i think he will be back soon. I think CK is a better player than miller he was just going through a slump

Miller is two years younger, yet he's showing much more confidence in his abilities at this level than Kreider is right now.

I have no problem with sending Kreider down and keeping Miller up. Miller has made himself far more noticeable than Kreider has, imo.

Miller battles , carries the puck , gets shots , makes steals etc etc .
Has he also made turnovers , over handled , shot when shoulda passed and vice versa ... YES . Difference is you notice JT on the ice the puck seems to follow him , he battles, competes . CK last few weeks hasn't had the puck ... EVER , and looks out if place . Dont confuse this with me disliking the kid I want him to be our 1 or 2 LW forever but he's not very good now at playing the way he has to to stay in lineup ....
AND THIS IS COMING FROM BIGGEST TORTS HATERS HERE . ( who in this case I happen to agree with )

Well you obviously misundertood. I said clearly that i have no problem wth CK going to the AHL but when he comes back i feel he will be good for us BUT if he does make a mistake here and there i hope Torts doesnt bench him

Once again i never disagreed with kreider being sent down for a short time

He shoulod stay down there. Kid needs to kick ass in the AHL, then come up next season with tons of confidence...

which is great for me, because I get to see him for $15 a ticket, instead of $75 a ticket :D

yeah mistake is one thing, you can teach through them.. Kreider seemed disengaged when he was out there.. Didn't skate or have that same hustle or physical element this team works off of like Miller.. IMO it was the right move for kreider to go down because it shows a young kid that work ethic is everything and when your young or even in life when your young at a new position or job you want to prove your worth and work hard..

Kreider will be back, he needs confidence and its a wake up call for him to get going and embrace the game better in all aspects, defense, offense and whats entailed to be successful at the pro level..

I must have been watching different games, to me when Kreider was recalled after being sent down, he was hustling alot more than the majority of the team was.

I agree 100%. I admit Kreider didnt play as well as he could it happens all players go through slumps. But it has nothing to do with work ethic. kreider looks like a guy who works just as hard as anybody. So i dont but the lack work ethic crap.

Difference is that Miller is mixing mistakes with good plays while Kreider isn't doing anything really, good or bad, he's like a ghost out there. Think AHL will do him good.

Yeah we must have been watching different games, to me he was one of the worse player on the team. Except for a handful games he's been looking insecure and not willing to battle for the puck. But that's only my opinion and we do see players different.

This. ^ The kid needs to find his game in an environment where is coaches trust him in all situations. Some people have mentioned Torts coaching to keep his job . Well this is true in all professional sports but more magnified in NY market where results are more a scrutinized ( which is odd as NYR have been a mis managed mediocre results club for decades )

According to Beacon's analysis of the Whale game, Chris was invisible after he scored that PP goal which was basically a gift from Pyett.

So, there's that.
