Is it?

How good is Manson? How good is Wood?

Be honest.

I understand that Krieder is having a down year. Big time down. Krieder is struggling and now he's a healthy scratch.

But ask yourself the same question about Manson. And Wood.
Avs would need to add significantly to the deal. manson for kreider makes sense. Wood and his contract wpuld cost the Avs significant assets to get rid of. He's barelly an NHL player and signed for another 4 ywars

He’s better than you give him credit for. As long as he can stay healthy and skate and forecheck, he will be a useful player. And with the cap going up, the 2.5 AAV won’t be so terrible. You make it sound like he’s Josh Anderson...similar skill set but makes a lot more.

this thread is first and foremost about CK + JM as principals deal

Rs decline, do not want to add age
As decline, can't afford to give up JM now

let's do a new thread
Rs surplus D to Avs for pix
expiring Lindgren retained half to 2.5 + Vaak + Borgen + Scanlin + Robertson
for
return NYR 2025 2nd + Avs 2028 1st + something else we can agree on

gives immediate boost to colo's backline
gives Rs a pick upcoming and a deferred one

This tracks. Teams trade for 5 defensemen at once all the time. 🤡

NHL teams always need to rob Peter to pay Paul in a hard salary cap league that strives for parity.

This trade makes the Avs harder to play against up front and better at scoring. Also some insurance if/when Nuke goes AWOL again.

The Avs need the net front presence when their talents like MacKinnon, Makar, Toews, Mitts and Rantanen play more of a perimeter game. When they don't have one of Nuke or Landy on the team... they suck.. no chance to win playoff series without one of those two scoring goals within 15 feet of the net.

Krieder is also a strong and swift skater. That type of speed would be simpatico on a fast team like the Avs.
What about the net front presence in their own zone?

Without Manson the Avs blueline would be looking like this:

Toews - Makar
Girard - Malinski
DeHaan - Kylington

Needless to say they'd have to find a direct replacement for Manson, which would almost certainly cost a 1st+ since they'd have spent their only 2nd in the trade you proposed.

Agree. Wood kills penalties, he hits, he skates wonderfully for a man his size, he plays with power which makes him a forechecking presence. The injuries are his issue, but for $2.5MM.. you can do a lot worse for a bottom six forward that can play PK.

The guy I think the Avs should target is Oleksiak.
A giant L shot defenseman that does PK? Sure... why not. But he's averaging almost 20 minutes a game for Seattle.

I'm not sure they'd be a seller. They just traded a D for Kakko (a forward) as well. So they are down a body at the position.

You might be fishing in waters where there isn't a fish.
