UMass isn't quite the very top tier of the NCAA, but they have some very recent titles. And I think Carvel does a better job with developing defenseman than arguably anyone. So if I were a defenseman, like Taillefer, UMass would be one of my top choices.
UMass also in relative close proximity to Taillefer's hometown, basically 4.5 hours away. In regards to Lottin, Nebraska Omaha has recruited a ton of Quebecois lately, so that might be more a pipeline type of commit.

Is there anything binding them to playing in the CHL for four years? If not, then I'm not sure we should be taking it as a given that they "will play" in the CHL beyond the point when they're eligible to move to the NCAA. If these kids were previously willing to forego the CHL altogether to play in the NCAA if it meant one or the other, then it would be reasonable to conclude that the NCAA is a priority for them as compared to the CHL. The fact is that they can't play NCAA now but can play in the CHL, but they will be able to play in the NCAA within a couple of years. We don't know what will happen at that point.

Nothing is binding them but they've both committed to the CHL for 4 years and their respective NCAA choice for 2028-2029. It's just their plan for now.

At this point nobody important has done anything. Rumors and all are nice, but to get anything moving either way we need something that moves the needle. So far nothing.

A player likely to make it to the NHL won't go to the NCAA after the CHL, makes very little sense.
I don't know if that's necessarily true.

There will likely be some players at some point that are likely going to go to the NHL that either move from the USHL to the CHL or move from the CHL to the NCAA.

If for instance the Misa to NCAA for next year rumors happen, that's an example of a future NHL player who will go CHL to NCAA to NHL.
