The team is playing an extremely safe defensive game, because the defense, other than Hughes of course, can't do anything remotely on offense. They're ok playing defense provided the forwards are all back helping. Almost every play they've generated on offense dies when it lands on the stick of the D.

They're playing as best they can, but they're up against it when you've got nothing threatening from five of your defenders. Maybe Soucy pots the odd goal?

Yeah, this is them. The forwards have to do too much to help the D. The D is there to protect the middle, not get the puck up ice.

Necas alone 1 for 1 for Pettersson is looking like it would've been a steal, let alone adding Kotkaniemi, Morrow and a 1st.

I'd play out this season before I'd make an irreversible, franchise altering trade. I've been beating the drum that Tocchet could easily not be here in a year or two.

Dump and chase hockey ain't it, far to restrictive and plays against what the new NHL is all about. I appreciate the defensive aspects that he's brought to the team, but scoring as much as you give up 5v5 is not conductive to a team with winning aspirations.

We can have holes in our roster of course, but it's not like Tocchet has coached any other dull way anywhere else as head coach. I'd also bet money that Pete would "rebound" if he could build up speed in the neutral zone. His acceleration and agility is the real issue with his foot speed.

Holding this team to ... what ... 12 shots through 2 isn't bad. yeah, they have gone into a defensive shell ... which we all hate .. but not bad for a back to back road game against a top team.
