GDT: CHL — November 4 & 11 | 1/8-finals

Jyp leading Skellefteå by 2 goals on agg with 10 minutes to go.

Kärpät looks really good vs Vienna. 2-5 total score.

Luleå scored 5 goals vs Salzburg on 2nd period? WTF?

JYP for sure knows how to melt in third period. LOL!

Yeah, that's my JYP! <3

They're going to a shootout. Mother**** this tournament then.

Unbelievable game in Salzburg. 4-1 after the first period for RBS. Followed by 6 unanswered goals by Luleå. So Luleå turned a 8-3 (aggr) to an 8-9 within 20mins.

6mins to go in the 3rd period.

JYP loses as Mikko Lehtonen scores the SO winner :laugh:

Kärpät with an easy win over Vienna, they will face another Finnish team SaiPa on 1/4 finals.

Overtime in Salzburg. I could do with less excitement. They gave the game completely away in the second period but good on Lulea for coming back like that.

And now all the teams remaining are either Finnish or Swedish. Killed my interest at least.

Yeah mine too. I hope next year the CHL will return with half the amount of teams, or even less. Just 2 from each country is fine.

Of course in general the quality of the Finnish and Swedish teams is way too high compared to the rest of Europe, but if they want to create a competition all of Europe is interested in they have to reduce the number of teams. Otherwise you'll always end up with the same kind of semifinals, exclusively Swedish or Finnish teams with maybe one other team from time to time.

Anyhow, I won't follow the rest of the CHL, except or the final game.

We've literally gotten 1-2 injured players in every CHL-game. Now our starting goalie. What the hell is this? :help:

JYPs first goal was beautiful btw, anyone have a vid/gif of the whole thing? (not just the finish)

Sorry for rehashing this but seemed like the more appropriate thread for this post:

My predictions for 1/8-finals:

Skellefteå - JYP
Linköping - Sparta Prague
Lukko - TPS
Salzburg - Luleå
SaiPa - Genéve
Vienna - Kärpät
Frölunda - Tappara
Fribourg - IFK Helsinki

The Linköping Sparta Prague matchup could go ether way, I feel. I've been impressed by Sparta but Linköping has a good team with a lot of firepower.

I'm unsure of the Vienna - Kärpät matchup, as well. Hard to say if Vienna is the real deal since I haven't seen them play and Färjestad being a disaster this season in the SHL.

Would be a huge upset if Genéve topples SaiPa. Genéve got 3 points of off Frölunda in the opener but much more so because of Frölundas sloppy play (letting in a goal in 5 on 3) and hugely ineffective PP.

I did pretty well :D

1/4 final pairs

Linköping, SWE - Skellefteå, SWE

Lukko, FIN - Luleå, SWE

Kärpät, FIN - SaiPa, FIN

Frölunda, SWE - HIFK, FIN

Overall, great hockey was being played. Lot's of excitement. Can't fathom why any hockey fan would not follow this tourney. Fun way to some what measure how the different euro leagues stack up against each other. On top of that there's some really good and fun games being played. At the end of this tourney I hope we see seeds of rivalries being planted.

On another note, this whole "Fin - Swe teams are too good, I'm gonna take my puck and go home" isn't really a constructive attitude. Lowering the quality of hockey further isn't going to make the tourney any more interesting. It's supposed to be a tough tourney. It's supposed to mean something reaching far into the playoffs. I'm not gonna cry if this tourney turns in to a KHL slugfest. It makes you wanna win even more and improve further.

Markus Svensson is ok, minor bleeding, he'll be back very soon. They took him off just for precaution.
