I highly doubt the HIFK home game will be played on the 4th. They have already a scheduled game against HPK, and the arena has been booked for an In Flames concert. Expect an announcement soon regarding the game date.

11 of 16 teams from Finland and Sweden. It once started as Nordic Trophy and now it's a real European competition. :D

When you look at 'reg. players', 'rinks', 'tradition' and so on and so on, maybe we should feel lucky it is not 16 of 16 ;)

Sorry for rehashing this but seemed like the more appropriate thread for this post:

My predictions for 1/8-finals:

Skellefteå - JYP
Linköping - Sparta Prague
Lukko - TPS
Salzburg - Luleå
SaiPa - Genéve
Vienna - Kärpät
Frölunda - Tappara
Fribourg - IFK Helsinki

The Linköping Sparta Prague matchup could go ether way, I feel. I've been impressed by Sparta but Linköping has a good team with a lot of firepower.

I'm unsure of the Vienna - Kärpät matchup, as well. Hard to say if Vienna is the real deal since I haven't seen them play and Färjestad being a disaster this season in the SHL.

Would be a huge upset if Genéve topples SaiPa. Genéve got 3 points of off Frölunda in the opener but much more so because of Frölundas sloppy play (letting in a goal in 5 on 3) and hugely ineffective PP.

Wait what a huge upset ?! when you compare Roster you can see that Geneve is heavy Favourite ( NHL experience: 2354 GP to 137 GP) Matthew Lombardi, Matt D'Agostini and the Pyatt Brothers and so on. Also on SaiPa side Jussi Markkanen who was not good enough for NLA.

Anyway it seem's that only the nordic and maybe the austrian teams take this competition seriously(many teams played with juniors and saved their best players), i hope this will change in the future.

There is also a problem with referee's in the most game i watched there was a clearly favouring of the home side, it should be forbidden using the same country's ref's.

Have they added to their roster since the start of the CHL? Frölunda did laps around that team in the group stage.

1-0 Kärpät vs Vienna. Masuhr.

2-0 Donskoi on PP.

Laola.tv shows these games free in HD. You need a proxy though.

Looks like there is no overtime in first matches, only in second games if the aggregate score is tied like in football.

How good would you say Tappara is? Upper or lower part of SM-Liiga? Frölunda 3-0 now :amazed:

Edit. Bad call let Hanses in this game for SAIK. Should have been a SHL game.

If Saik make it 5-3 or so they still have a great chance, then 3-1 or 4-2 at home will be enough which is certainly a possibility. Hanses has an amazing 83 SV% in SHL I see.

Wow nice comeback for SAIK! Two unanswered goals in 6-7 mins. 5-3 now.

5-4. Skellefteås' on fire right now!

SAIK shouldn't be too greedy for an equalizer here. Plenty of away goals to work with.

Tappara 2014-2015

- scoring
- power play

+ goaltending

Tappara has the best starter in FEL, but for some reason they are playing with their backup goalie today. Dominik Hrachovina has played one game for Tappara U20 and 10 games for a Mestis team this season. It's quite interesting, that they only have one strength and they have decided to play without it. Maybe they don't want to take any risk with Juha Metsola getting injured.

Jyp playing really good. Skellefteås 2nd goalie Hanses really shaky this game. Why not go with Svensson? Beats me. Skellefteås d-men looses pucks a bit too often.
SHL > CHL and Svensson needs some rest? We rested our best defenceman too (Sevc).
But yes, Hanses doesn't really belong on the top level yet, we've lost every game with him in the net except for a tight 2-1 win vs the worst team in the league. We've played very poorly during the last couple of weeks though so it's not all on him. Sadly our 4 youngest defencemen seem to be in the sophomore slump.

(Edit: I wish Anton Öhman would get to play more with the big team, IMO he has been better than Pettersson and Aho in J20.)
