Life has gotten in the way of late, so I haven’t really followed the league too closely, but have Kane/Toews usually been that invisible lately? Barely heard Toews name today, and heard Kirby far more than Kane.
Toews had his best year in awhile last season in a bit of a resurgence but he’s had a real quiet start. Kane has generally been himself this season I think. I think they overslept today, nothing other than Dach looked right for them.

That was a dominant third period, maybe against an opponent who had already given up but dominant nevertheless.

We looked as fast as the old Hawks. They had no answer to the forecheck.

Never EVER schedule a home game during the state fair again. **** this traffic.
And here is the #1 reason why I didn't make the 90 minute drive to, or drive down to my dad's place to make the 40 minute drive to the game. The fair is something that I've absolutely loathed since I moved to the area, and have done everything in my power to avoid. Add to it that the atmosphere at the state fair game was absolutely dead last year (better this year) and it just didn't feel worth it.

Thankfully we had no problem finding a taker for our seats.

I'm wondering how much longer the State Fair will be located there. I'm thinking that land is too valuable to be as idle as it is for most of the year, and the Fairgrounds could be some place more appropriate, like Garner or East Raleigh. Plenty of cheap acres elsewhere.

I I thought about this the other day and maybe one of you Raleigh natives can help me out with this but why did the Canes not consider Dorton Arena for a practice facility? Doesn’t appear to be too much larger than most facility’s around the league. Does it even have an ice plant anymore?

Yes, Fleury's contract is more attractive than either Edmundson or TvR, but in order to agree with your thinking, we'd have to accept that Fleury is at least the equal *on the ice* to Edmundson or TvR. I just don't feel that's the case.

As of this second, I'd rather sit Gardiner than Edmundson. I wouldn't sit either, obviously, I just want to point out that I think Edmundson brings something unique to the table and I'd find it very difficult to take him out of the lineup in favor of Fleury. And I think TvR is criminally underrated around here. He's the best third-pair RD in the league, IMO.

The organization has to do what's best for the organization, not Haydn Fleury. Obviously, both Edmundson and TvR are unrestricted after this season, but they give us the best chance to win games now, which is the priority. I think the org would like to keep Fleury around in case we decide not to bring back one or both of the UFAs, but in the end, they really don't care if they lose Fleury because they have Bean, Sellgren, Priskie and others coming up.

TL;DR: Although it would be great if he was, Fleury simply is not good enough to force a trade to open a spot. We'd get weaker to save money, and that's not the mode we're in right now.

Similar arguments applied to keeping Faulk and they traded him. They applied to Skinner last year and he was dealt too. Judging by that past behavior, what's in the best interest of the organization in the eyes of the front office is not necessarily putting the absolute best roster on the ice in that season.

By trading van Riemsdyk or Edmundson, they can get an asset via trade, ease the need to go with a short roster to preserve cap space and send a positive message to a player that can provide value to the organization for several years to come. I don't know what else Fleury needs to do to prove that he's a capable 3rd pairing defenseman, now arguably on both sides.

Wow. Did not realize this was an afternoon game until 5PM when I checked in here and saw the GDT was at like 14 pages...

After watching on delay, kinda surprised they won this one, especially at the score they did. Seemed like the Hawks were swarming our guys and giving them no room to breathe, cycling the puck like dogs in our zone.

At the end of the day the team with more skill wins though. Nice to finally be on the right side of that,

Oh, and I find it utterly outrageous that this game was played on a Saturday afternoon on the last goddamned day of the State Fair. Hang your head in shame, Dundon.

Dorton was terrible for hockey. Has no refrigeration, no ice plant, the ice during Icecaps games was notoriously terrible. They'd have to rip up the concrete flooring to get everything to the point where they could use it, and for a National Historic Landmark, probably not worth the hassle when they could get a team specific training facility tailor made for their needs for probably a similar cost

For whatever reason, Fleury is on RBA’s shitlist. He’s never trusted him. I think it makes sense to part with one of TVR or Edmundson prior to the trade deadline, but I’d be pretty surprised if they actually do that. My preference would be for them to keep Edmundson over TVR, but that preference has a bit of recency bias in it and the belief/hope that Chase Priskie is ready for 3rd pairing duty at some point this season.

I also think that the braintrust will re-sign one of TVR or Edmundson. RBA’s head may explode if he had to make a 3rd pairing out of non-vet D.

Cool thanks for the info. I wish I would have seen a game at Dorton but I was under 10 and we were local to the Monarchs.

Dorton is a dump, it's a "historical" dump but it's still a dump. Great place to watch ECHL Hockey in the 90's even with the bad ice and no A/C because that was 1990's minor-league Hockey for you, but no major league professional sports team should be using that place for anything.
