Perry hasn't said a word. I guarantee you if the player thought the entire thing was BS he would be telling someone.

If it was so public with a massive event with sponsors (drunk and yelling) there would be way more information available as more people would see. Also the idea of everyone in that room being radio silent when it wasn't even reported until later would be bogus.

Likely its a private interaction/subtle action between Perry and an employee of the Blackhawks that wasn't okay with the employee and they reported it. They likely are being coy to protect the employee.

Or he thinks he has a legitimate grievance in which case the PA would tell him to shut his f***in trap if he wants to collect on some money.

Potentially but also Davidson seemed to be genuinely on the verge of tears at times talking to media yesterday so that seems like it might be a little too simplistic

I think that has to do more with the fact they did not protect Bedard and his family. They let the rumours get way out of control. You have to assume that had a negative effect on Bedard as he is an 18 year old kid.

They didn’t have to say what the reason was but they should have released a statement at least saying that rumour is false immediately.

Yeah unsurprisingly based on their track record, they shit the bed. Especially considering how little information the official press conference shared just coming out and saying "this has nothing to do with any members of the team or their family" would have been an easy way to calm the storm at least a bit

The Hawks can have work place rules and if Perry violated them, he could be terminated. But, the NLPA has rules to protect players from contract terminations, which are generally difficult to do in general for any business. The courts have upheld employees rights in most contract cases unless it is a clear contract violation, not a grey area, meaning specific violations versus in "general" violations.

The Hawks could be going this direction to protect their image given the previous incident from years ago, even though they might lose a challenge in court if the NHLPA challenges this on Perry's behalf. They could have just released him, the termination is a high bar, the Hawks have nothing to lose by going this route.

I am not condoning Perry's actions, I have no idea what he did, its pretty obvious it must have been very bad, when you do the wrong thing, it bites you sooner or later.

Exactly like you said. If they release that line it eliminates the craziness.

It felt like Kyle wanted to address this sooner but the organization made the decision not to. Don’t think the timing was his choice particularly.

I suppose they would probably argue addressing it in literally any capacity gives it validity it doesn't deserve but after like 3 days of rampant speculation... come on guys

This is a bizarre situation. Corey Perry can still play. I don't know how bad this hurts his character reputation, but there have been far worse scandals by athletes who have gotten multiple chances.

I mean honestly the rumor blew up in like 24 hours and they released the statement the following day.

This

People need to stop acting like the Hawks dropped the ball by not IMMEDIATELY making an official statement to address some ludicrous BS on social media as if controlling what some random morons say on the internet is high up on their list of importance. As if Bedard and/or his family was somehow impacted by the ONE WHOLE DAY that went by before they officially said something. It’s just silly. There was no reason to rush to publicly comment on that nonsense the very second it came out ffs, Bedard isn’t going to be forever emotionally scarred because of this. “They let the rumors get way out of control”….LOL you gotta be joking. Some people are seriously beyond stupid.

We don't even know what happened? Sure there have been bigger scandals, but it's also a very different world these days in terms of sensitivity to off ice antics.

It would be nice for Anaheim to sign him and give him the C in the meantime. As a successor to Getzlaf and to mentor the other Ducks.

Or if he wants to contend I could see Detroit or New York as potential options.

It is nearly verbatim what the GM said.
