I would be very, very surprised if Darlin doesn't sign with Carolina.

To me the best u25 D-group/D-prospect pool in the league and the team needs a starter. Should be a dream trade for Darling.

Even if he doesn't sign, I love making a move for UFA rights. Works out a lot of the time to get them signed, and at a pittance compared to the "true" value of a player.

This move is great if he can be like Cam Talbot, otherwise another terrible season for the Canes just because of goaltending.

Carolina will make the playoffs if they have good goaltending. Their team is very underrated.

Hefty price for UFA rights but give Carolina a solid G upgrade. Was hoping Dallas went after him on July 1st but I guess that isnt happening now

No surprise. The right move and good value on top of it.

Thanks for everything Scott. Go make that money.

I also like seeing the Bowman-Francis highway in use, cause it helps fuel fantasies of somehow getting on of their better young D prospects outta there.

If I were Darling, Canes would be the best option for me, no more being backup, finally going to be a #1 somewhere, cap space to dump on me, a beautiful state, away from the media, and a young uo and coming team with a defense I wouldn't have to yell at. Definitely should sign there

As long as Cam's on the roster, I wouldn't pencil anyone into the #1 spot.

You gotta think Francis did his due diligence.

Well dang, pretty good value for a mid-range UFA. Almost makes up for Jurco (almost).

Do the Hawks have a goalie eligible to expose besides Crawford? Or is that not a thing?

Jurco played well for us in what limited time he was allowed.

If he's not claimed in expansion, I'd like to see him back next year in our bottom six.

But yeah, we did essentially trade a 3rd for a much higher third.

I like the move even if Darling doesn't sign. It's worth taking a shot. Canes have a 1st, three 2nds (Car, NYR, PIT), and three 3rd round (NJD, CAR, OTT) picks in this draft. Couple that with the last few years:

2015: 9 draft choices + acquired prospect McKeown
2016: 9 draft choices + acquired prospects Zykov + Saarela
2017: 11 draft choices (7 in rounds 1-3)

There's no way Canes were going to pick all 3 2nd rounds and all 3 third round picks so worth a shot. My understanding it was Ottawa's 3rd round pick which is the latest of the 3. If Darling signs, then great. If he doesn't, we aren't out much.

I don't think there's any doubt Darling will sign in Carolina. Not even worth thinking about really.

It's a great situation for him there, and he has at least 2 former teammates there to help any adjustment.

If I had to guess, he'll get what Talbot and Schneider (from the 'Nucks) got- 3 years, 12 million.

It seems like a lot for UFA rights, but obviously CAR has some indication he'll sign an extension in which case they are basically giving up a 3rd for a guy who should be their starting goalie going forward.

There's no guarantee they get him if they wait until free agency. Someone else could trade him or offer him a more lucrative contract.

edit: guess not

Yeah, 4-4.5 seems about right given his numbesr.

The question will be if those numbers hold under a starter's workload.

Canes have a boat load of picks, good move. Canes are a strong young group of defensman and the team is on they way up the standings, would be a good spot for Darling.

And if Darling is not interested in Carolina, they can flip his rights to Dallas or the jets/ flames quick.....

Pretty high price for UFA righfs. I believe bouwmeester got similar. Might be an add I'm missing. Darling is pretty promising though IMO and canes need an upgrade

Jordan Leopold was the add + the fact that the 3rd-rounder was early (67th), as opposed to 90th-93rd if it's Ottawa pick (if they get to the Conference Finals)
