If the Jets continue to roll, does Chevy trade picks and prospects for ‘now’ players at the deadline and if so, are there any young players off the table?
If Chevy could get a good center or defenseman with term maybe you make a move but as it stands right now i wouldn't do much. Now we are 3 months away from the deadline so that could easily change , i'll get back to you.

Maurice did just win the cup.
and?

Florida has been a far superior team than Winnipeg, post-COVID. They arguably have finished with the best record since COVID. Maurice is a good coach, who helped guide the Panthers to the Stanley Cup last year, when they finished 1st in their Division, for the 3rd time in 4 years (Jets have never won their division). They also happen to be #1 in the East this season as well.

My apologies. I have no idea what your point is.

Its hard to evaluate this deal unemotionally.

We generally had very high hopes for McGroarty. And now we have very high hopes for Yager. Meanwhile McG is having trouble getting going making the deal look good for us. But I expect McG to get over the slow start and develop well.

I really question if he will. I mean for a guy who was adamant that he start his pro career on an NHL team off th bat, he was terrible in the 3 games with Pittsburgh, and has been terrible for their AHL team. This reeks of a entitled brat, who wanted everything on a silver platter.

Rutger can mature and turn things around,a s he is only 20. However, it's almost as likely that his entitlement and attitude problems prevent him for doing much in the NHL, and ending up as a 3rd line player for his career, or worse, if he lacks the intestinal fortitude for the NHL,

In recent history, Cutter Gauthier pulled this crap off last year in Philadelphia, and was promptly traded to a horrible Anaheim team. Even there, he has yet to score a goal in 14 games, with only 5 assists. If anything, this makes it clear that NHL teams have every right to send these players to the minors for conditioning, considering two of the biggest whiners have done a big pile of nothing after getting their way, by trades.
If we had the choice without all of the hype and butthurt, without having attached to either, just choosing between 2 thinly known draft picks, it would be hard to choose.
After 2 months, Yager is clearly looking like the better player.

That Maurice is a better coach then the credit he got here and he did lead a team to a cup.

I still think that would have been a good signing.

Monahan played well for us and addressed a key weakness we still have today.

Sure, the second line is rolling right now but I still think having Namestnikov there isn't ideal.

Monahan doesn't rely on speed to be effective so he's probably a bit more immune to the impacts of age, and his injuries thigh unfortunate don't real seem to be the type of a bandaid player, just an unlucky one.
(This post might be a bit off-topic, as it's a bit future-focused)...

The other problem with signing Monahan for 5 yrs is that it would make it hard to integrate Lambert into the line-up at C. Scheifele and Lowry aren't going anywhere soon, so I could see the Jets looking at Lambert for that line after Namestnikov. The big question is whether the Jets decide to try Lambert at the NHL level this season to determine if he can manage that role down the stretch and into the playoffs. Another darkhorse candidate for that C role is Kupari. He brings a strong two-way game, along with dynamic speed, size and strong forechecking. He's been strong on face-offs, which Arniel will like. I'm not sure if he has enough offense to play there, but Ehlers and Perfetti have enough skill and smarts that maybe they can thrive with a big, fast pressuring C. Kupari is starting to show some good offensive instincts.

Looking ahead, I think that if Chevy is a buyer at the TDL he should look for the equivalent of a Niederreiter trade on D. I think they need another bona fide top-4 D, preferably on the right side. Ideally, it would be a D with a year or more of term. A really good LHD might be another option, with Miller maybe moving up to play with Samberg and having a strong LHD to play beside Pionk.

I think he might be with a very good LD. If Pionk fades (he sometimes looks like he gets run down, and becomes slow), then Miller might be a better bet.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion.
Mine is that he is just fine as a 3RHD playing about 14 minutes a game.
I don't want to see him play regularly against the opponents that Pionk usually plays against.

Fair enough, but I also remember too many times when Pionk seemed to be out of gas and was getting thrashed in his end. When he's over-played over a stretch he seems to wear down, and then plays stiff-legged and slow, and other teams feast. Maybe one option is to platoon at times on 2RD to keep him fresh, and I think Miller would be fine in that role for stretches of time. When Pionk runs out of gas, it gets ugly fast.

I think it's odd to try and break up Samberg and Pionk and particularly to demote Pionk who is around the top 5 in the league in defense scoring.

If this team stays healthy and Namestnikov keeps playing quality minutes at center I would target two guys. Maata as a d-man to play with Miller. And Bjorkstrand as a RW to have some depth at that position, and maybe a different option from Perfetti, who is unproven in the playoffs. As Ehlers-Bjorkstrand had some amazing chemistry back in the day.

But I wouldn't make drastic changes or give up a 1st this year to have some draft capital to use.

Rutger is going through something most young players go through. They have all been big stars in their hockey careers until they need to make the transition to the pros. Suddenly, for the first time in their lives, they need to work very hard just to make the team.

Yager is still playing in Jr. He will have to go through the same thing next year.

If either one of them fails to learn the lesson and get past this point he will fall by the wayside. Until he doesn't, I still expect McG to figure it out. Gauthier too for that matter. Way too soon to reach any conclusions.

I can't compare Yager to McG as a rookie pro because he hasn't reached that point yet. So I will still compare them at equivalent stages.

1 thing in Yager's favour is ego. McG clearly has more of it and that may make it harder for him to adapt. But time will tell on that front.

As things stand right now the only possible change I would consider is giving Fleury more games and Stanley fewer. At least if Fleury continues to play as well as he did in the first 4 games.

I don't entirely buy the idea that you don't touch a winning lineup but you certainly tread very carefully messing with whatever the Jets have going right now.

We know that we need a 2C in the longer term. But Names is on a 60 pt pace right now. Pionk is on a 76 pt pace and has been adequate defensively. How do you replace either of them?

When Jets come back down to earth, and we know they will, those situations could change. But I hope Chevy doesn't spend any more valuable assets on rentals.

Yeah, I fully expect McGroarty to figure it out and become an NHL player. But I'm not at all sad to see him get humbled after his stunt.

I also view Yager ahead due to positional importance.
