How many owners announce extending their GM on the day the team closes out their lockers because they aren't good enough to make the playoffs? :help::amazed::loony:

Chipman might have just hung the existence of this franchise on Chevy's shoulders.

3 more seasons like the one we just went thru, with TNSE trying to ask for the ticket prices increases each season that we all know will be coming... I just don't know....

Not really surprising. Chipman wasn't going to can Chevy a year after defending him with the Chicago stuff and after both media and fans praised him for the offseason moves he made with Schmidt, Dillon and Stastny.

If they don't let rid of some assistants(Huddy, mainly) and get a new HC then I'll be surprised. Taking the interim tag off of Lowry would be a huge F.

I’ve let this settle in for a day now….my only question is: With all the turmoil coming out right now, who’s going to want to sign here and what can TNSE do to bring fans back?

Honestly, imo Chevy has no choice here but to make trades, clean the room up and air things out, brand new coaching staff top to bottom, new captain and leadership group (Morrissey (C), Dubois (A), Connor (A), Ehlers (A), Lowry (A). Rotate 2 A's at home and 2 on the road. Get these guys involved, make it their team. Bring in the heritage classic jerseys as the new home and away. Heck, demo and renovate that damn locker room...... seriously.

Carolina did much of this in the 2018 offseason. Rod Brind'Amour was named head coach, had new assistants. Justin Williams was named Captain. They traded Lindholm + Hanifin for Hamilton + Ferland + Fox. Hamilton/Ferland became their 3rd-4th leading point guys. They drafted Svechnikov 2nd overall, he scored 20 goals for them as a rookie. They traded Jeff Skinner. Complete goaltending overhaul, lifelong Hurricane Cam Ward and Scott Darling out, Mrazek and McElhinney in. They've never looked back. You can absolutely change the complete feel of a room, team and organization. But you need to be proactive and make those necessary changes.

As low as things appear right now, I still feel confident this can be done here, all of it, and I feel good about the likes of many of these guys - Dubois, Connor, Ehlers, Perfetti, Lowry (4th line pls), Appleton, Barron, Morrissey, Pionk, Heinola, Samberg, etc. Head into next season with a new vibe, leadership, coaching staff, some players out some players in.

But can Chevy do it? :dunno:

And, according to Murat, The Chipman Factor is real:

Meanwhile, Mark Chipman has been described to me as “extremely hands-on” and “very close to the team,” which makes a person wonder if a little more clarity of roles would be a better decision.

Well said. We need to remove the cancer, turn the team over to the new core and bring in a coaching staff and other players that fit the new template. It has been done in a number if orgs, no reason it can't be done here.

He has to be. This isn't here is 175 million dollars to run this team. This is if we f*** up on our finances this team will be the Houston Jets next year

Not a primary Jets fan.

I have respected the way Chevaldayoff built the team. The team has drafted and developed pretty well. I think over the course of his time, hes done pretty well. I think its pretty hard to be a GM in general for a Canadian team. Dont have access to the same player pool that a lot of the teams do, especially in the USA.

But it looks like he kind of lost the plot this year. To be fair to him, a lot of this in hindsight. I think it would of been hard to really expect him to make major moves last offseason.

The question will be, whats his plan now? I' not sure if he will be able to see the moves that need to be made. He will likely be too loyal to the players that have been on the team for awhile. I have a hard time seeing him pull the team out of mediocrity.

Do you mean reversed effort? Because if so yes I agree. Dangerous slopes always for a team like us in this Market

Yeah. Almost seems like a lot of the Org issues mirror the on ice issues at times. Maybe Chipman is gripping his stick a little too tight so to speak :help:

I think Chipman falls in love with hockey people, and that as part of commitment he idealizes them and finds it very hard to let them go.

He pretty clearly fell in love with Maurice, as a person and coach, and could not bring himself to fire him or allow Chevy to do it -- viz the alarm-bells "a great coach doesn't necessarily have a shelf life" comment in the Murat long-former and I suspect he has also fallen in love with Wheeler and, at least for a time, the idea of Scheifele as 1st pick and foundational piece of the Jets' Dynasty to come.

So while I get that he's a key part of decisions as a guy with a lot of money invested in the team, I'm not sure that some of those decisions are based on hockey knowledge as they are on something like "gut," or as above his feelings for a person or expectations for him.

So sure, be part of things -- but hands off the hockey decisions where you're far from the smartest guy in the room. IMO.

Same as it ever was...

Step 1: The Jets have a problem
Step 2: Jets ignore/fail to understand the problem
Step 3: Jets double-down on the problem
Step 4: Jets finally correct problem

You can usually replace "Step" with "Season" above, give or take (Pavelec was 5 years, Maurice was 3 years, we're at the double-down stage with Chevy, and he's going to be here another 3 years).

what the jets org. needs is someone with the ability/nerve to tell chipman "NOOO...now get the f#*k and let me do my job!!!!", promoting chevy to Director of Hockey Operations aint gonna do that!....and chipman knows that

I was really hoping the Jets would move on from Chevy. But at least with him staying we kind of know what we'll get
