The biggest mistake Chevy made was holding onto Maurice for 2 seasons too long. It was pretty clear after 18-19 that Maurice's team had peaked. Feel like this franchise is stuck wanting to be the Pittsburgh Steelers but we need to win something to hold that kind of loyalty.
While i agree with you on the Sens and Oilers totally i really only care about the Jets and we seem to going the wrong way right now. To me Chevy has had ample time to get this team to the next level and missing the playoffs altogether is a perfect time for big change with the Jets.
I don't disagree that a change in management might be a good thing but its really only been one year where we have officially missed the playoffs the last 4. I get this year has been a huge disappointment but things can change in this league in a hurry. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
No one is waving pom poms, but there is a difference between wanting to take a wait and see approach to what will unfold after really only one awful year in the last 6 and wanting to burn it all to the ground and get rid of everyone.
If true then good. There needs to be some distance between the owner and the hockey club. Chipman has been way to closely involved with the Jets day to day operations for my liking.
Yeah I can't imagine this organization wanted this leaked right now. If he's say being moved to the President Role where he is overseeing all the departments from more of a high level (I think more his strength anyhow) while someone new takes over running the day to day micro type tasks then I think it would be more well received.
I think just the opposite. As much as I crap on Chevy, I think he's done reasonably well in trade and player contract negotiations. I don't think he's done well in evaluating players as per their skill level (especially on D) and how they will fit with this team's needs. The Jets need someone in the higher up position with a better vision for building the team.

Is there a business that would run like this? I don't think they would be in business very long . This is Chevy's roster and Chevy was the one who also just moved our assistant coach to head coach instead of hiring a new coach when he had lots of time to do so because of all the covid breaks. Chevy had 11 years to get it done and now has 3 more? Not happy about this, at the most he should have gotten 1 year .
There was a poll at the end of last summer after all the moves were made about Chevy's work and fans overwhelmingly game him an A.
I don't want this post to be seen as "defending Chevy" but Chevy hasn't made atrocious moves. In recent years there have been moves made by him that I disagreed with... some of them marginal and could be argued either way (Hayes trade, Vegas XD moves) and others that I think Chevy was completely wrong about (not re-signing Stempniak, trading up for Stanley in 2016) but on balance I don't think Chevy has made the kind of franchise destroying moves that I see other GMs making.
I see Chevy as part of the solution... sure you can fire him and you may end up with someone better but there is a good chance that you end up with someone worse similar to what happened with Maurice. Atleast Chevy is "the devil you know" and isn't gonna do something franchise ruining like trading Ehlers for Adam Larsson.
AFAIK Larry Simmons handles most of the contract and cap stuff. I could see Simmons being promoted to GM and Chevy being promoted to above him. I have only heard good things about Simmons so would be interesting for sure.

Larry Simmons is the capologist and again, certainly has to provide the financial framework for Chevy to work within. Chevy would still be the one sitting down with the player agents to handle negotiations. If this is what actually comes to pass, I think it will confirm the Peter Principle.
I’m starting to believe the Sip was correct when he said there would be no changes at all next season……….
Post in thread 'FLAMES @ JETS FRIDAY APRIL 29 - 7PM TSN3 "GILLIGAN'S ISLAND"'
He built a legit contender that peaked in 2018. Unfortunately, he hung on to Maurice way too long which seemed to allow for rot to seep in to the core’s foundation. Like it or not, he’s the GM of this franchise for another 3 years. Hopefully he has the courage to act in a way that is decisive enough to change the culture of the room entirely.
And he needs to get the right coach.
I’m okay with extending Chevy if he was at the end of his contract, but with it being a three-year extension they should still cut him next year if the team underperforms. No “well let’s wait until the contract ends and we’ll amicably part ways” nonsense.
If this is in fact true, and Chevy remains the GM and wasn't in the works prior to day and only came together in the last few hours then one has to hope that it wasn't Chipman telling Chevy "good job, stay the course" and Chevy actually had steps he plans to take and a framework laid out for those steps to happen and not just some status quo B.S.
Maybe Chevy intends to hit the ground running tomorrow morning before he heads out to the cottage.
Step One-Fired entire coaching staff and commence the search for a new HC, unless he's already been beating the bushes on that.
Step Two-Convince PLD to sign here. Same with Stastny and Comrie. Work on other RFA's after.
Step Three-Have Jax Teller and the SOA smack Scheifele around a bit so he can wake up to reality.
Step Four-Start figuring out who needs to stay and who needs to go and what pieces we need to truly contend and where to get those. I, like so many others here feel a new coaching staff and systems that make sense will change many of the losses we had this seasons into wins next season even if the personnel stayed the same, which it can't. Look at all the game film and see who works best together, and what clearly doesn't work and fix it and find players who will complete a line or make for the best D pairings.
Step Five-Win a damn Cup before I have to meet my maker.
Well this just further confirms that when it comes to making any decisions, 9/10 times the org will go with the "safest" easiest choice rather than ever being aggressive or proactive. They only "do something" when they absolutely have to or are forced to.
Would not be surprised to see Chevy in that President of Hockey role with another GM type brought in to bolster the hockey side. Maybe that's the delay in announcement?
The cynical part of me is thinking that the reason why it wasn't announced officially was because they were going to put on a show of auditing the performance of the team and make a few window dressing changes and mostly remain the same.
I think both Scheifele and Stastny's interviews lit a fire that they need to put out now. Wiebe leaking that Chevy was already extended should have fans irate.
good God this phrase has gotten annoying. On top of being vague and silly it's just completely oblivious to the part where all the winningest organizations are also put together by an "old boys club". In every sport.

I'm ok with this. Too many changes at once could create chaos. A new coaching staff and some shakeup trades is worth a shot. If it doesn't work, then bring in a new GM to blow things up.
