Chevy is the real deal! His hands are tied in so many ways! I think he's a dedicated, intelligent, incredible judge of talent. Look at all the deals he did where he still had some control over the player: Kyle Connor, Nic Ehlers, Mark Scheifele, Adam Lowry (was a UFA), Sure we had a bad year. Shit happens! In Chevy we Trust! Pro sports is a business. He does a great job and congrats on your three year extension!! Quit whining you guys. How many times has he turned lemons into lemonade, having to get rid of a player that wasn't going to play here? Trouba, Coop, Kane, Laine... Get real!!!

I totally agree but the million dollar question is did Chipman refused to let Chevy fired Maurice.
Maybe that explains the new 3 year deal Chevy got.
I can’t prove it but I know it’s true.
There is now way Chevy would have hired Claude Noel, Zinger or the FIVE former Moose in hockey ops either.

He’s missed the playoffs 7 times in 11 years. And if not for elite goaltending they probably miss 8 times.
The Wheeler, Schmidt, Dillon, Lowry, Little (even before he was hurt) contracts range from bad to horrible. Haven’t had an impact player on the roster drafted since 2016.
No cap room left to sign Copp. And Comrie didn’t play enough and is now UFA and probably getting paid more than he would have.
He’s average at best.

I think he was re-signed to oversee the trading of Scheifele. I assume after that interview the team now knows more than ever that he puts the 's' into selfish and Chevy has managed to get something decent to great for players that wanted out in the past.

If memory serves Maurice signed his well before it was announced. Which was when they were well into their swoon.

Makes me wonder who leaked it and why. Chipper won’t like this.

This being leaked, after a pretty remarkable post game interview from both Stastny and Scheifele probably has TNSEs communications team heads spinning.

The cynical part of me is thinking that the reason why it wasn't announced officially was because they were going to put on a show of auditing the performance of the team and make a few window dressing changes and mostly remain the same.

I think both Scheifele and Stastny's interviews lit a fire that they need to put out now. Wiebe leaking that Chevy was already extended should have fans irate.

Stastny sure touched on an interesting and honest topic. Wowza. For anybody who hasn’t, that’s a must hear interview. Spoken like a true veteran who “gets it”. If this wasn’t directed at Scheif I’m not sure who else it would be…

He took over after Wheeler ended speaking and basically said some players have to be held more accountable, whether it’s player on player, they need to have more respect for one another. When you don’t have that, and you don’t care about the player next to you, you just care about what you’re doing or certain individual things. Stastny referred to Vancouver this year (about 10 games ago) where they lost a game in OT and a player was called out by Boudreau, and how the player responded and was better defensively. All it takes is one time to get embarrassed and nobody likes it but sometimes it has to happen. He finished by saying you have to have self awareness and sometimes have to sacrifice for the greater of the team.

The way Stastny jumped in there after Wheeler and said what he said sure was interesting for a guy who’s generally pretty reserved.

Edit: Stastny referring to this incident in Vancouver a month ago.
Then, Boudreau called out Horvat, and to a lesser degree, Pettersson, for their lack of attention to detail prior to the winning goal.

“We talked about [staying on the right side of the puck] before the overtime. We talk about it all the time, to stay on the right side of the puck. There was no reason for [Horvat] to go on that side of the puck. We didn’t have control of it. Even Petey could have checked from the other way.

This team has been bad for 4 years. If not for elite goaltending they would have missed in 2020 and last year.

I would say three not four. Like I said I'd be fine with new management. We may still get that if Chevy is moved upstairs and focuses more on the business aspect which is what a President of Hockey Opps does.

Scheifele's favourite player growing up was Steve Yzerman and a huge turning point in Yzerman's career was the self reflection that resulted in a reduction in his personal accolades to the benefit of the team. Honestly it doesn't seem like Scheifele has that self awareness in assessing his own flaws.

And as a sidenote I'm pretty sure Stastny was referring to Elias Pettersson with regards to Boudreau. They played Vegas a bunch in April and the timeline matches up.

I think we all have known for a long time that there has been an accountability issue. You always had some players like Mark and Blake who could suck royally and still maintain their slot. Blake I will give atleast gives it his all most nights and I hold the coaches more responsible for not putting him into a role where he is optimized at his age and current ability.

Mark though has been cheating in his own end for years now. Playing half assed in his end for years now. He got all pissy the one time Moe benched him and didn't respond appropriately.

The other players notice all this and you are hearing it now. I'm sure most players are sick of it. I'm sure Nik is sick of being moved around when he isn't as good as he can be but Mark keeps getting prime minutes.

You can tell the players who care and want to win.

Morrissey when asked about his improvement earlier was quick to change the focus from it to wanting more wins. He talks about everyone needing to come in ready and do what's best for the team

Conner feels they need to build a new culture so that they hit the ground running as a team next year.

Nik doesn't give two shits about his point totals if the team isn't winning.

Stastny is dead on, our coaching helped enable this and now we need to figure out who's on the bus and willing to do what it takes ro win as a team and who is paddling their own canoe up the assiniboine. Those players need to be removed and quickly.

I stand by it thay this team if it's pulling in the same direction and fighting for each other is a good team.

I don't see how the biggest player he's calling out isn't Mark. His on ice actions and his media conference today pretty much showed a me first selfish attitude and that is exactly what Paul was calling out.

This is all pointing on Chipman now.
You wonder if Chipman wouldn’t allow Chevy to fire POMO?

Totally agree that Chevy's hands are tied compared to other GM's but i also agree pro sports is a business and no business doesn't expect growth every year. This team went backwards this year and hasn't shown a tonne of growth over the last few. All i know is Chevy has a tonne of work to do this summer.

My guess is that True North will give Chevy a chance to right the ship with a new coach. If he fails (especially miserably), then he is let go after next season. The 2nd and 3rd years would serve as severance pay because I genuinely believe they respect Chevy as an executive.

TNSE is in for a world of pain if they don’t turn this around.
Cheveldayoff must make bold changes which involves the coaching staff and a few malcontents on the roster.
Loyalty at some point in time must involve the fan base.
TNSE made a major misstep in asking about playing games in Saskatoon.
They made an error in hiring Noel in the first place.
They made an error in keeping Maurice 3 seasons too long.
They don’t really seem to have a clue on how to get this dressing room on the same page for several seasons running.
Hiring another front office*
guy means nothing unless big changes happen both in the dressing room and begin the bench.

* Director of hockey platitudes otherwise.
