Short's game is not respected - there must be a reason why. I'd analyze his games but it's above my pay-grade.

Yeah, the larger chess sites are so unthreatened by it that they posted articles about it for all their users to read haha. If he wants to draw people to use that platform, where the charge is considerably more than other sites ($14/month or $120/year), they have to bring something more innovative to the table. Kasparov's master class is not enough, considering how much other chess content there is out there to improve with.

Speelman is a character > Ovi-ready | ChessBase I'd like to see the top (2700+) GMs switch to a variant. At their level they memorize 15-30 moves from an AI and that's chess at the highest level.

It's an unfortunate truth that at the highest level, engines have all but destroyed the creativity of the game. The uniqueness between high end players is much more narrow now than it once was. That's why I like Dubov so much; he at least tries to infuse his own brand of art into the game. The same with Jorden van Foreest; he comes up with creative ideas that few other guys are looking for.

I think that it won't be too long before we start seeing reduced time controls for classical games. Nothing too ridiculous, but maybe just cutting the current time control by 25%. would lead to some more interesting attempts from Super GMs.

Soo, when the season is basically over with the NYR being Lloyd asking Mary (the playoffs) in the movie Dumb & Dumber what his chances are, we go back to this thread and the Jerome gambit. We see a novelty in chess where Aman declines the Jerome gambit while being quite intoxicated. If there isn't a category named chess entertainment, I think there should be.

Started as ~1300 rated player 3.5 years ago with the goal of getting to 1800 in 10min time control. I hadn't really played chess much since high school, and was never coached or anything, so I figured there was lots of room for improvement.

Just hit 1803! 99.1%.

Feels f***ing good, Man. I put a lot of effort into practicing tactics and analyzing my various openings, and the positions that arise from them.

Next stop: 1850!

I don't know if it's because some guys are out of form a little, but this second half has been crazy to watch!

The Wang Hao-Grischuk game today had me rocking back and forth on my couch lol

I don't really care who advances, but I'm hoping for more drama than a Nepo runaway win.
