McAvoy for Darnell Nurse

Frederick for Donato

Carlo for Sam Carrick

Marchand for Evan Rodrigues & Samoskevich

Time to shake it up
Not one of the teams employing those players mentioned would do any of those deals without sweeteners! McAvoy makes 3 million more than he's worth, can't pass, can't QB a PP, rarely shoots, and rarely hits.
Fredrick does a whole bunch of nothing.
Carlo is the biggest, clumsiest, softest, least talented D man on our team.
March and is over 35 and playing like it.
So realistically, what are we getting for that pile of crap?
Better to take our lumps, let the UFAs walk, trade the deadwood and take our high first round pick!
No trade would help this team, it has too many holes and not one player who can pass or shoot!

Oilers wouldn't hesitate for a second to get McAvoy for Nurse.

Cannabis shop moved into your neighborhood, I see.
If you ever watch the movie Dazed & Confused that is my world but at age 25 I said bye bye to it and basically drank only beer and usually capped it at 2…..if I drank liquor there was plenty of water and time lapses

My Goal: no hangovers ever again

I would rather be forced to watch the last 13 years of Buffalo Sabres games than smell pot

It’s like a skunk smell - blah

You cannot seriously actually want Darnell Nurse and his contract on the Bruins...

I

Highly doubt that!
You think they wouldn't trade by far their worst contract for a younger and much better D only making 250k more??

Nurse had 3 points last night

I live in the moment
I really like Nurse and Trouba the 2 players Edmonton and NYR fans whine about for no reason other than cap hit. Every time I watch either team they stick out as good players.

Is it my imagination or is McAvoy having problems skating the puck out of the defensive zone?
Last night I counted at least three times he tried to skate the puck out of his zone and mishandled the puck, basically losing control of it before reaching his own blue line.
At least two additional times he made his way to center ice and 'again' drop passed the puck back to a trailer near his blue line.
Personally, I would much rather he dump the puck in deep so his forwards could enter the zone with speed rather than freezing and waiting at the offensive blue line for the puck to catch up.
I don't know if it's a confidence issue with McAvoy, or if he's trying to do too much on his own, but he seems tentative and hesitating when he has the puck and fearful of making a mistake.
He can be a very good defenseman.
I just wish he would focus on the defensive side and keep the offensive side as simple and basic as possible.
Right now I think he's fighting the puck trying to make things happen on his own when there isn't anything there and it's hurting his overall game.
He should just focus on the defensive basics until he gets his swagger back.
I know the team is looking for him to be a puck moving offensive defenseman, but it really not his game, and there is nothing wrong with that.
He is a very good to above average two-way defenseman, he just needs to stay within the things he does best and stop trying to be something he is not.

Mac may never live up to his contract, and I hope that he doesn't feel the pressure to have to (though he probably does). He should just do what he does well and let it be what it is. He needs off the #1 PP unit, and be told that he doesn't have to make magic in offensive zone. Simple and basic for now as @JAD said above. He is a good player and could at least live up to a good chunk of his contract even if he falls short a little bit.

And what does he do well?

Log minutes vs top lines transitions the puck slots ass bags like Carlo down.

Good player if we had an elite offensive guy that we sheltered on the third pair for the PP and he made a little less there wouldn't be many complaints.

Carlo is the one that is killing us because he's supposed to be elite defensively and he's not. This year he isn't even average. Extremely soft zero offense clearly took the summer off and showed up out of shape. Total fraud.

He defends well, is a solid open ice hitter, can transition well and passes well. He just tries to do too much out there.
Yep, I agree 100%. Especially the part about him trying to do too much. He kinda has to though. He's paired with Lohrei.

I'm fine with taking him off PP1. But trade him? That's ridiculous.

If you're gonna trade a defenseman, its Carlo. And not because I think Carlo sucks, either. He'd bring a lot of value back, and he's the guy we could probably most easily afford to let go once Lindholm comes back.

Now that said, all of this trade talk could have been avoided if we just would have spent the $5mil we sunk into Zadorov on some forward help instead.....

Yeah spot on. I think the initial hopes were that McAvoy was going to be a truly elite, do-it-all defenseman, essentially the best of Carlo, Gryz and Krug all rolled into one. He's not that - doesn't have the offensive skills, not great when he has to play scramble D, tends to over-think when given too much to do. As a leader I'm sure his heart is in the right place but I'm not sure it's really a strength of his either.

But he is still very solid in his own end, moves the puck fairly well in transition, can play the body, is responsible, has a decent hockey IQ most of the time. As you say, he's probably not quite living up to his contract, but you kind of just have to accept that and assess his value on its own merits. Bruins management need to do the same.

I'm not in favor of trading him, but if it were to be considered the return would have to be big and you would need to have a very clear idea of how to effectively re-jig the defense without him. I'd prefer they just re-evaluate the kind of player he is, make best use of his strengths, and again as you said don't overuse him in areas to which he's not suited.
