He's talented, entertaining and speaks his mind. Three things do you don't see much nowadays.
I don't even like basketball that much but make sure to tune into Kenny, Shaq and Barkley to watch the TNT halftime and postgame show. Entertaining and you learn tons about the game listeing to those guys especially Charles.

if only the NHL had something like the NBA on TNT crew, i don't even like basketball that much

chuck, shaq, kenny and ernie are great. they're more entertaining than the basketball game itself.

on the other hand when hockey goes to intermission and i hear the panels on TNT/ESPN speak, I want to kill myself
It's really amazing how many people feel like this. Most people turn off the game when it's over. With their postgame show people actually tune in after the game is over to listen to them lol. They are that good.

I'm amazed how fanatical fans can be.
We cheer for our teams. Understandable.

But why do we cheer for the league and sport itself? Like I'd never want hockey to go away.
But I don't really give 2 shits how much it grows beyond what it is now. All growth means to me is higher ticket prices.

Olympics to grow the game in Europe.. Why do I care if the billionaire owners and millionaire players get more money.

Perhaps I don't understand something but wouldn't more fans just mean higher prices?

It's like the ratings thread. I don't care who's in the finals for ratings. I guess if I was in invested in Roger's media I would.

Chuck is so good at what he does, that even when he does things that everyone else would be ridiculed for, he gets a laugh out of it. Imagine Biz going this far…

I couldn't care less for basketball, but Chuck and Shaq are absolute gold together.

I think it's pretty cool how Barkley seems to like the NHL playoffs even more than his own sport of basketball. I think he said he got into it by becoming friends with Jon Cooper and his love grew.

You can tell he really loves hockey and isn't feigning interest for cool points or at the direction of some TNT exec trying to get more viewers.

There has to be growth and momentum. In a global market, the sport needs to compete to sustain itself. You need widespread interest, a large talent base, and money for it to perpetuate. There's more youth playing soccer in Canada than hockey, did you know that?

Hockey is a niche sport to begin with. Most (to put it mildly) of the best athletes globally play other sports. Top American athletes elect for football, basketball, baseball, even soccer now before hockey. We need The Leon Draisaitls and Austin Matthews and Alex Barkovs. We need fans to show up and to care for there to be a pro league. There has to be millions to be made in order to incentivize people to dedicate their lives to the sport.

When Barkley goes to San Antonio his nickname is skinny.
And when he goes to the bank they call him Mr. Barkley!

So if Hockey stayed relatively static with X million fans it wouldn't be sustainable?
I just have a hard time understanding that I guess.

10 million people across the continent love and watch hockey for example. If in 10 years that number is 10 million then the sport is not sustainable?

I can see the argument that if you're not growing your shrinking I guess. But staying relatively stable over the years I fail to see how that's so terrible.

Like I get it from an owners and players in a capitalist's stand point.
From the fans standpoint it's already known hockey is a niche game.. it always will be. There's nothing wrong with that. It's expensive and requires ice to play, none of that is going to change.
More fans to me means higher ticket prices. I'd almost prefer most fans buggered off and watched soccer so the game is more affordable to go and watch. Not going to hurt my feelings if owners and players make less millions.

NHL should almost be paying him. Guy does more beneficial advertisement for the game than the NHL does for themselves.

it's cool to see people outside the hockey sphere support the best sport on earth

Barkley has done more for NHL promotion for the League in 7 months than Bettman has done in 30 years.
