Just curious but why is it a weird thread?

It's not just "Charles Barkley is great /thread."

It's specifically related to how much he's been promoting, in particular, playoff hockey to a massive American audience.

Having a guy as famous and beloved as him telling millions of NBA fans "this (NBA) game is boring, NHL is where it's at" is a level of promotion and credibility the league could never buy.

Thing is, Barkley and Shaq have the cred to get away with it. Barkley especially gets a lot of zingers in and commentary about how shitty some games are in the NBA, could you imagine Gretz piping off about an NHL playoff game being boring as hell and he's watching a dif sport? Growing up Barkley was my favorite player. I liked the way he played the game, his trash talking. He has a charisma to him that just comes off as naturally funny, with an 'Bama twist. Shaq laughing like a little school boy plays right off of him.
