Chara tries to fight Getzlaf (Mod warning page bazillion)

Pretty cool considering someone said Anaheim is a tougher team despite Getzlaf getting roughed up and Ritchie refusing an invitation with McQuaid. Guarantee you had McQuaid hit Kesler like that, and Ritchie came off the bench to challenge him, McQuaid would drop the mitts.

Who gives a shit?

This is hockey, dude. Tough isn't simply dropping the gloves. It's out-hitting your opponent, it's winning the physical battles, it's taking the hits to make the plays. All this talk about fighting is posturing. Spray your pheromones elsewhere, because when it came to the actual game the Ducks were the better, more physical team.

You will rarely ever see an angry Chara. If you can't allow yourself to see the difference between Chara doing his job in a staged fight versus a heat of the moment rage response, we can't help you.

Ask Downie, Paquette, Koci how they like facing off against rage Chara.

He controls himself too well sometimes. You never see an open ice hit like the past game because he is so controlled and aware of the damage he can do.

Youre literally doing nothing to vouch for Charas ability to fight at all. Downie and Paquette are mediocre middleweights who Downie didnt drop the gloves to draw a penalty (it worked) and was unfazed by Chara. Paquette got a gloved punch to the face. Calling Paquette a mediocre fighter is a compliment to him.

I've already given you Koci was a decent one. Koci landed the best punch though as I've said and buckled Chara to his knees. Chara won the fight but got dropped at one point too

It was definitely a lopsided fight. Chara threw more, landed more, and did more damage. Koci did tag him, but Chara got right back up unfazed.

NHL Fights from Oct 25, 2007 Chicago-Boston

Not lopsided enough to earn Charas reputation. Chara won a fight in which he got dropped originally by a heavyweight. He didnt KO him, he cut him so it looked a little better for him. This fight is not worth the reputation Chara has somehow held onto all these years despite the fact that hes at best a mediocre heavyweight and honestly doesnt have many big wins for a guy thats been considered this tough and in the league this long. If Paquette and Downey are your examples, I'm sure I could make an argument for lots of guys to be the toughest in the league

days later and you're still trying to argue that hit was late? you're wrong, everyone agrees that you're wrong

give it up
Saying that "everyone agrees" that I am wrong about the Ritchie hit being late is laughable. Plenty of folks that believe it's late. Tone it down a notch.

This is going back to the 2006-2007 season. So yeah, the bolded is when Getzlaf was undersized in a fight (and even then... not that badly). Looks to me like he's had his fair share of advantages.
Thanks, you just proved Getzlaf is more than willing to handle himself when necessary. there is nothing to be gained from him fighting Chara other than for the Bruins to get their frustrations out because they can never beat the ducks

Sure. Again, never said that Getzlaf wasn't willing. I don't get why people think i don't like the guy.

What I don't get is why Bruins fans defend Marchand all the time, but this incident bothers them so much, do you guys want Marchand fighting still?
I never defended Marchand.

I think if someone comes and Challenges him next sunday in the rematch against New Jersey, he should accept that invitation and fight.

Would you prefer "most" people believe you're wrong?

The hit was fine. Good solid shoulder to shoulder hit.

You really want one of your best offensive players getting in fights?

So if he's challenged by someone smaller than him should he accept? Asking the real questions.

This wouldn't have come up if a poster didn't claim that Anaheim was a tougher team than Boston. Which is false, by the way.

Boston as a team was pretty soft... obviously having a 6'9 monster helps give the illusion you are tough, but they seem to be a little more on the speed/skill side nowadays. Anaheim plays 1 of the heavier games in the league, and basically flirt with the edge of what is okay and what is not okay on a shiftly basis.

Never once called Getzlaf a *****, so keep on putting words in my mouth. I've said numerous times that i like Ryan Getzlaf. I was simply correcting a certain poster who's been spewing garbage for a few threads now, that's all. People have been saying that Getzlaf would hold his own against a guy he's 4-5 inches shorter than, and and has a good 30-40 pounds on him. Not to mention a guy who's fought the likes of Neil, Laraque a few times, Brashear, Shelley, Koci, Parker, Ivanans, Lessard, Worrell a few times, Odjick, Langdon, Hordichuk, etc.

Chara legit hasn't been on the wrong end of a fight since Nazarov in 2002.

No. I don't think Getzlaf would hold his own or be any sort of threat to Chara.

Yup, it would be laughable to think otherwise. But it's all academic anyway: I don't think that Getzlaf would ever want to fight Chara. So we will never see that happening.

Yeah, that's the direction the whole league is moving on. Hence, seems the intelligent thing to do.

It's not just that fight. He's literally man handled grown men in fights before. Whether you agree with it or not, Chara's reputation as a scary fighter was well earned and deserved. He's a physical mismatch and that worries fighters. You asked for one fight where he beat someone up and I gave you several. If you want more into his fight history, then look for yourself

If he's challenged by someone smaller than him next Sunday for the hit on Johansson he should answer the bell regardless of who it is. If it's Dalton Prout, sure. If it's Brian Boyle, sure. If it's someone smaller than 5'9'', 180, sure.

I don't know what you're trying to say here.

You really want one of your best offensive players getting in fights?
I think if someone comes out and issues a challenge for his cheap shot on Johansson, absolutely. He's better off getting it out of the way instead of refusing and having someone else do it for him.
